F-Troop - Monday 5th March 2012

The constant rain on the course is restricting out use of the course with heavy vehicles and today we also had a large social group of players which meant we needed to restrict our work to around the clubhouse.

Again our work crew was reduced from the normal regulars due to holidays and other commitments so we did achieve some good work today with all available hands on deck.

We had Martin Gallagher, Geoff Bridge, Sam Knox, Trevor Harrison, Garry Trigg, Warren Gray, Peter Martin, Rob Benson, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess and Jan Martin.

Peter Davidson has donated a trailer to F-Troop to enable us to complete many tasks around the course where a trailer is necessary such as rubbish pick and indeed a job like today where we needed to pick up some carpet that was donated to us for weed matting.  Thank you very much Peter!  The trailer will be put to good use.

Martin, Peter, Geoff & Warren were on carpet pick up duty and took two trailers to Umina to collect a good supply of old carpet which we will use to weed mat the 6th native garden where the constantly growing weeds give us some grief. A big thank you to Lea Southon for the donations of the carpet.

Garry & Sam moved the sandstone bird bath that has been a feature on the garden at the 15th.  Due to the worry of vandalism and theft we elected to relocate the bird bath to the new garden between the 1st and the 10th tee where it looks very attractive near the matching sandstone seat and water bubbler.  Both the bird bath and the seat were donated to us by Sam Knox and will give members years of visual pleasure.  Thanks to the generous donations that we have received from the Central Coast Leagues Club Social Group and the RSL Club Social Group we are able to purchase the necessary plants to finish this garden off.

Sam & Garry did a rubbish pick up around the course when they had finished installing the bird bath.

Rob & Trevor took on the daunting task of running an outlet pipe from the back of the clubhouse to the back of the 18th green and into a sump which will take care of all the water problems that we had at the back corner of the clubhouse where water constantly ran down the path making it a very dangerous slippery area for Members to pass through.  The troopers did a great job & had it completed before morning tea.

Di Beechey & Anne Burgess did a good clean up around the BBQ area and underneath the clubhouse using the new blower machine that was donated to us by Col Adams.  Collectively between F-Troop and the Pro Shop staff we should now be able to keep the underneath area of the clubhouse in a good presentable state.

Di & Anne then helped me to clean up the 1st and 10th tee areas and the surrounding gardens getting some weeding done and the smaller hedges trimmed.  We also dead headed the roses and tidied up around the putting green area and the paths leading down to the 1st and 10th tees.

Morning tea this morning was some beautiful date & walnut loaf which was appreciated by everyone. Thanks Chef John!

After morning tea Martin & Geoff fixed up some holes in the cart paths at the 18th & an inspection was done of the 10th tee area where the walls are being weakened with poor drainage off the tee. A clean up of the Links Room needed to be done so that all the painting materials & sanding dust was cleaned up so that the staff could set up the room for a function tonight.   The links room has been vastly improved with a lick of paint which had been done throughout the previous week by Nigel Asken, Sheena Asken, Col Matterson, Mark Stimpson, Alvin Kan, Di Beechey, Peter Martin, Jan Martin and Ron Puiatti.  The room is much more inviting and should encourage more bookings for functions.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
