Golf - Tuesday 31st May 2011

Today was a total washout of the Ladies Golf -  the only ones smiling are the very happy ducks.

We have had inches of water over the last few days which is great for the gardens and that is about all.

I understand that the first round of the Ladies 4BB Knockout set down for this Thursday has been deferred until the 9th June due to the course conditions.

Hopefully the rain will ease & the course recovers in a very short amount of time.

F-Troop Monday 30th May 2011

Everybody can be excused for thinking that there would be no F-Troop work done today.  Out on the course that was true as it was too wet for heavy vehicles however we can always find work to be done no matter the weather.

Our die hards Martin Gallagher, Geoff Bridge, Duncan Dyer, Peter Martin & myself found enough work to keep us going until morning tea & then we gave up as the weather really closed in with light hail & thunder storms.

We were able to cut up old carpet remnants that we had kept to be used as weed matting on the gardens.  With the help of some of the green staff, F-Troopers cut up a trailer load of carpet which I put out on the putting green garden between showers.  We managed to get part of the mulch on before we got washed out with heavy rain.

Martin Gallagher and Geoff Bridge did some repair work in the BBQ area managing to get a drain through the garden bed to allow the water to run through from the BBQ area and to prepare the BBQ door for new hinges.  Peter Martin purchased repair gear for the door and for the repair of the upstairs tables that are getting shabby from wear & tear.

The course has been under deluge with more rain to come.  This latest rainfall will really test out the drainage systems on the course as it was very wet underfoot when we played on Sunday.  I understand that the new drainage put in at the 10th bunkers was working well.

Golf - Sunday 29th May 2011 - CCDGA MIXED FOURSOMES CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Golf Event of the Day was the CCDGA MIXED FOURSOMES CHAMPIONSHIP.

We had some adverse weather in the middle of the day and for the play off for the 18 holes scratch where it rained just enough to make the wet weather gear to come out.  For the most of it we had cloudy and cool which was not too bad.  The course fairways were very wet underfoot from overnight rain but the greens were in good condition.

Our playing partners today were Richard & Leonie Casey and Steve & Gillian Mitchell (Morisset) and we had a very pleasant day on the village green in spite of it being the dreaded Mixed Foursomes Championships.  We were all still on speaking and friendly terms at the end of the day which indicates that we did not have a bad day and our partners were great company.  My highlight was winning a ball.

F-Troop - Monday 23rd May 2011

F-Troopers worked hard today cleaning up along Racecourse  Road fence line where there has been a lot of unsightly rubbish and loose timber which did nothing to enhance our course.

Today was Vets Day which means that we needed to work outside of the busy course area.

We had Martin Gallagher, Geoff Bridge, Garry Trigg, George Foster, Peter Martin, Di Beechey, Ron Beechey and myself so we were able to achieve some good work.

Martin, Geoff, Garry, George & Peter worked on the tree trimming & removal of rubbish along Racecourse Road taking at least seven trailer loads of rubbish to the dumping area.

I worked along Racecourse Road from the 1st green to the clubhouse picking up rubbish & loose timber & cleaning up the area outside the Wedding Garden.

The whole area looks much tidier.  We did attempt to rough cut outside the fence area but the deep foliage requires a slasher - so the council will have to take care of that.

Di Beechey worked around the BBQ area & Ron Beechey replaced the pump on the water feature & got it back into working order.  Thanks Ron - your help was much appreciated.

Morning tea was looked forward to on a rather cold day.  Mini Muffins were delicious - Thanks John!

We only had a small work force but everyone worked hard to keep our front door to the community neat & tidy.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
