F-Troop - Monday 27th January 2014

As it was a Public Holiday for Australia Day there was no official F-Troop Day - however that did not stop our keen volunteers from coming in and doing a few more projects.

We had Di Beechey, Carolyn Buttsworth, Anne Burgess, Ron Beechey, Peter Martin, Duncan Dyer, Sam Knox and Jan Martin and we got some good work done.

Peter & Duncan did some maintenance work on the tree lighting and the Club BBQ.

Sam Knox did a good mornings work splitting wood for our firewood sales.

Anne Burgess helped cleaning up under the club, planted a new camellia at the 18th and tidied up the BBQ area.

Di Beechey & Carolyn Buttsworth cleaned up under the clubhouse, worked with Ron Beechey to transfer the water feature to a new position and placed new numbers of the the lockers in the Associates Room.

I worked out on the course cleaning up at the Bush Toilet area, watering the gardens there, cleaned up at the 5th and Ladies 3rd Tee, trimmed the Camellias in the Wedding Garden, watered the potted plants in the Wedding Garden area & with Peter's help cleaned up the practice nets.

The kitchen was closed - so no morning tea but we were very impressed to learn that Club Member Keith Dawson has donated a golf cart for F-Troop use.  This will be invaluable to us to enable our transport around the course and to carry work tools.  THANK YOU KEITH!

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Golf - Sunday 26th January 2014 - Australia Day

We had a lovely day for Golf today - the cloud cover in the morning made it very pleasant to be out on the course.  Our playing partners were Wally & Rhonda Robertson and we had a good day on the course with some good highlights.  Peter was our star player today but Wally's drive on the 1st was the big highlight leaving Wally a chip and a putt and he narrowly missed his birdie. The boys beat the girls for the Keno ticket.

We have a new resident chook on the course (photo attached) who had been sighted around the course for the last few days.  We suspect that this "chook" could be an escapee from the school farm.  My thanks to Sheena Asken for the attached photo of the chook which we have dubbed "Sheena" in honour of Sheena's birdie on the 2nd today.

The Golf Event of the day was a Medley Teams Event - Best 2 Scores + Single Stableford for Men and Ladies.

Golf - Saturday 25th January 2014

The new handicap system was introduced today - being our first handicapped game since the introduction of the new slope system.  The anticipated problems (as with all new systems) have arrived and unfortunately there will not be a resolution for approximately one week due to software problems and teething problems with the slope system.  Please do not panic as there should not be huge differences in handicaps and all will be revealed when the new system is sorted out.  Be patient and all will be well.

There may be one handicap adjustment following today's results - 56 points is not a misprint.

Di, Carolyn & Rhonda worked all day on the painting of the lockers in the Ladies Locker Room which is looking refreshed with a new coat of paint and some new furniture.

I worked around the course - cleaning up and watering at the Bush Toilet area, watered the garden between the 14th and 15th fairways, watered the pots in the wedding garden and 1st & 9th, hedged the yellow hedge at the 10th, hedged the small hedges around the 1st and 10th gardens, cleaned up the Wedding Gazebo, cleared some more weeds and overgrown plants at the Front Street Garden, raked up the cigarette butts and rubbish left lying around the non-smoking seating area underneath the clubhouse.

Morning Tea of giant iced buns was appreciated by us all as we had put in a hard mornings work.  Thanks Chef John!

F-Troop - Monday 13th January 2014

Another busy day for F-Troop with a large range of projects being covered.

We had 14 volunteers to help out today and we got some good work done.

We had Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Trevor Harrison, Don Nicholls, Garry Trigg, Rob Benson, Martin Gallagher, Peter Martin, Nigel Asken, Warren Gray, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess, Carolyn Buttsworth and Jan Martin.

Two trees were removed today from the 1st and the 13th.  Duncan, Martin, Geoff, Trevor, Garry, Don, Rob and Warren were involved in tree cutting and removing the branches and timber.

Rob and Warren also did rubbish pick up around the course and gardens.

Peter & Don did some maintenance on the pump in the cart shed and helped out with the girls locker room maintenance.
Peter set up the hose at the 3rd Men' tee to get some water to the parched hydrangeas.

Nigel did some removal of weeds at the 13th dam and it is easy to see the difference where the weeds have been removed.

Di, Anne & Carolyn worked on painting the Associates Room and removing some of the lockers to create some new space in the room. The first coat of pain was completed and the obsolete lockers removed with the help of some of the F-Troopers.

I started at the bush toilet area - cleaning up and watering then moved to the 3rd where I cleaned up the 3rd and 5th tees and watered the bike garden and succulent plants; moved the hose on the hydrangeas to give them a good soaking; watered the potted plants in the wedding garden and around; trimmed the hedge and weeded at the 1st tee; cleaned up around the seats and the sand bucket area at the 1st tee; filled up the water feature; moved the hose at the 3rd tee; watered the new magnolias at the front street garden; planted in some new succulent plants at the 14th green space near the bush toilets; watered the gardens at the 5th and packed up the hoses.

Morning Tea was much appreciated by our hard workers. The Giant Muffins were soon demolished - Thanks Chef John!

Today we received a donation of Mauritius Hemp plants from Ted Jones.  These plants are related to the Agave plants already planted at the new green space created at the Bush Toilets.  These plants will fit in well and are happily settled in their new home.  Thanks Ted!

We also received a donation of two dozen or so pre-loved wing splits by Dustin Hallswoth.  These will be useful to repair our path edges and garden edges.  Thanks Dustin!
