Trivia Night - Friday 29th August 2014

It was wonderful to see so much Club support from Members and Guests for our Trivia Night which included Wine Tasting from McWilliams Wines, and our normal Friday Night Raffles and Badge Draw with many people enjoying dinner from the Bistro as well.

Scott Cubis was the Master of Ceremonies and ran the night well.  The evening saw many Members and guests with prizes from the meat raffles as well as the lucky door prizes so all was not lost if the Trivia night questions were not spot on.   The Badge Draw was not won and will jackpot by $50 next week.   Members need to be in the Clubhouse on the night to win the draw.  Also there is a monthly draw from the tickets that were sold - drawn from the barrel for a $50 prize.  Tonight was my lucky night for this draw - so I was a grinner as well.

The Trivia Questions were answered by each team and adjudicated by the Trivia Master - Scott Cubis. It was a hard fought battle with not a lot of points difference in the scores.

A good time was had by all and it would be great to see that many people support our Club for our social Friday Nights.  Coming up in September we have Mexican Night where there will be a $1000 travel voucher up for grabs.  You need to swipe your card at the Members kiosk and print your ticket which you then need to place in the Wishing Well in the Club Foyer.

Meanwhile our normal Friday nights are well worth attending for the meat raffles and badge draw which will continue to jackpot until we have a winner in attendance on the night.

Golf - Thursday 28th August 2014

The on/off rain has continued with more rain overnight which was enough to close the course for the Ladies Golf this morning.

Later in the morning the course was opened again but the on/off rain continued which has kept the numbers right down.

The forecast is a little more promising for tomorrow so hopefully tomorrow's competition can be played as scheduled.

Golf - Wednesday 27th August 2014

All I can say is there are die hards and DIE HARDS!   We had on/off rain all day today and the course was soaking wet from very heavy rainfall overnight.  No carts were allowed on the course which would have cut the numbers down - but really - you would have to have been a desperate to go out today - but look at the scores - not bad for a pathetic day of weather.

The Golf Event of the day was a Men's Single Stableford (Team Event cancelled due to small field)

We had 42 starters with 2 visitors from Moore Park & Manilla.

RESULTS:

MEN'S SINGLES RESULTS:

Golf - Tuesday 26th August 2014

No golf results from the Ladies Golf today. Not surprising given the on and off rain and the course being under maintenance.

Being wet and putting through sand does not sound like much fun.

Hopefully the rain will move on and get us back to business as usual tomorrow!

F-Troop - Monday 25th August 2014

We had another busy day at F-Troop and thankfully we had good weather to work in.

Today we had nine volunteers to share the load - Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Trevor Harrison, Don Nicholls, Rob Benson, Warren Gray, Peter Martin, Anne Burgess and Jan Martin. The planned tree trimming with the cherry picker was postponed due to the recent bad weather - to be re-sheduled at a later date. The planned stump removing went ahead with a contractor working his way around the course removing stumps in order of urgency.

The Tree Gang of Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Trevor Harrison & Don Nicholls undercut at the 17th and the 17th out of bounds line.

Rob Benson & Warren Gray had the daunting task of rubbish pick up around the course and fixed up the rope border and post at the 17th green. (later painted white by Peter Martin).

Peter Martin was rouse about and picked up rubbish from the garden clean outs at the back of the 5th and the 8th and 12th tees.

Anne Burgess cleaned up at the BBQ area and worked on the new grass and camellia garden at the back of the 10th green.

I cleaned up at the bush toilets and fertilized the camellias there, trimmed and weeded the garden at the back of the 5th green, planted in new Gazanias at the Ladies 13th tee, trimmed and weeded the garden at the 12th & 8th tees, planted in three new Vireya shrubs and added fertilizer in the Front Street Garden, tidied up the Lavender garden after the rabbit damage.

We all enjoyed morning tea of croissants and jam - Thank you Chef Brad!

After morning tea ( I was slack and forgot to take a photo) it was all hands on deck to erect a small picket fence around the hedge plants at the front entrance to prevent further damage to the hedge plants that have been struggling to take off because of the constant branch damage by careless by passers.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Golf - Sunday 24th August 2014 - 2nd Round of the Mixed Team Series

We had great weather for golf today - not a hint of rain and some nice warm sunshine.  The course underfoot was very wet with many puddles waiting to trap unsuspecting golf balls and overall the course was very soft. Given past years history it was a credit to the staff that the course was still playable after all the recent rain.

Our playing partners today were John & Julie Hazzard and they were great company.  We did have some good three pointers and other highlights  - the best of which was Peter's birdie on the 14th where a Hole in One was not out of the question when the ball was rolling to the hole and finished up just behind.

The Golf Event of the day was Round 2 of the 30th Annual Mixed Team Series proudly sponsored by "SRIXON"  - 3 scores to count + Single Stableford.

Golf - Friday 22nd August 2014

The continuing wet weather is having an effect on our playing fields with the numbers well down for the week.  We had some good scores in today so it cannot be too bad once the showers abate.

Next week's forecast is showing continuing showers - hopefully centered over somewhere else than Gosford Golf Club.  Monday and Tuesday are green maintenance days so perhaps light showers would be okay from the Green Keepers point of view.  Overnight would be good with blue sky and sunshine throughout the golfing hours.

The Golf Event of the day was a Single Stableford for Men and Ladies.

We had 21 starters with 2 visitors from Everglades and Nowra.  There were no ladies playing today.

Golf - Wednesday 20th August 2014

Working on the course gardens today I came across damage caused by our natural predators - one being rabbits attacking the lavenders at the 16th digging large holes around the roots of the plants and at the Ladies garden at the 13th and the Camellias at the 14th some cockatoos had given the plants a complimentary trim which is rather frustrating when we have our garden inspection in a couple of weeks for the Gosford Council Garden Competition where we are competing for the Best Commercial Garden.

The weather held off today thankfully so many of our golfers got their game in with no rain at all.

The Golf Event of the day was a Men's Single Stableford + 2 Ball Irish Multiplier.
