7 Lindsay Freeman                                        Lost 6/5

Notes about the match: Not a good day for Match Play golf, however it was the same for both teams. Belmont proved way too strong for our boys and they maintained their unbeaten run and finished top of our Division 8. Without doubt the best part of the day is the 19th hole where all the players get together over “refreshments” and new friendships were created.

I would like to thank my team of which I am very proud as they stuck to their tasks no matter how strong the opposition was and gave it their all. Well done fellas!!

There is a good chance that the 2018 Pennant will be played later in the year so those who want to share this great game of match play had better be early in nominating.

Super Senior Pennants Results Team 2 - Monday 20th February 2017

  • Gosford Golf Club Match Play Pennant Results 2017
Pennant Team: Super Senior Gosford #2 Manager: Martin Gallagher

Match Date: 20-2-2017

Golf Course: Shelly Beach

Opponent: Toronto

Result: Toronto 6.5 def. Gosford #2 1.5

Individual Results:

Name

Result
1 Steve Fairnham Lost 5/4

2 Martin Gallagher Lost 1 down

3 John Haines Lost 3/2

4 Lindsay Morgan Lost 6/4

5 Michael Crehan Won 2/1

6 Terry Dyer Lost 2/1

7 Lindsay Freeman Lost 1 down

8 Michael Wilson Square at 18

Notes about the match: The course was in great condition for two teams that hadn’t won a game as yet. With two players unavailable Terry Dyer and Michael Wilson stepped up to the plate for their first experience at Super Seniors. As can be seen above Michael had a great battle and finished square while Terry came so close to notching a win. Two other results went right to the wire with Lindsay Freeman unlucky not to square his match while the No:2 was never in front at any stage but came back after being 2 down with 3 to play to lose 1 down. A great effort from the team and I am sure the boys would like another crack at them next year to square accounts.

Next week we travel to Toronto to play our final game against the Division leaders Belmont.

After a mixed weather day we are happy to say that after only one little hiccup where the field had to be brought in for a short period of electrical disturbance the golf event of the day went ahead as scheduled with just a few light showers and mostly a very pleasant afternoon for the late starters.

Our playing partners today were Peter and Sandy Laybutt and fortunately we were late starters and did not have to enter the field until after the electrical storm so we only suffered a few light showers that were of little consequence. Peter and Sandy were great company and we did have some highlights with the two boys both scoring birdies, Peter Martin scoring 38 points and beaten on a countback for second place in the singles event.  We have been trying to have a game with Peter and Sandy for some time and have been beaten by the weather each time - this time we succeeded and had a lovely day on the village green that is looking greener every day with this very welcome rain.

It is with great sadness that we learnt of the passing of Jan Oyston today.  Jan was a keen golfer with our club until illness prevented her from playing golf.

We were so lucky with the weather today - threatened to rain but only lightly showered until after our golf was finished. The showers were so light that there was no need for wet gear and actually it was quite refreshing. My golfing partners today were Margaret Nichols and Georgina Lamb and they were the players that held the team up. Margaret was first time back to golf after a break and played very credibly scoring for our team in our moments of need. Georgina played well under pressure having to support Margaret while I scored the card.

The Golf Event of the day was the Ladies Opening Day - 3BBB V PAR Team Event.

We had 76 starters.

RESULTS:

WINNERS: Judy Verlander, Norma Cubis and Kerry Williams - plus 12 on a countback

RUNNERS UP: Bernadette Kirkman, Rhonda Austen and Jann Henebury - Plus 12

3RD: Rhonda Robertson, Kay Baillie and Debbie Flanagan - Plus 11

BALLS WENT TO: Plus 7 on a countback
