Golf - Thursday 31st May 2012

Another fine day to help to dry the course up after the recent rain.

Today we have planted out some orchids that were donated by Bert & Annie Brink & these are in the new garden at the 2nd green. Our thanks to Bert & Annie for their generous donation.  The old grasses at the 2nd green garden have been removed and replaced with some more succulent plants.

The garden at the back of the clubhouse has been used to plant out some varieties of herbs for the kitchen staff to use (should the plants be allowed to reach maturity).  We have got some Rosemary, Thyme, Garlic, Basil, Chives, Coriander. Italian Parsley, Oregano, Parsley Afro and Parsley Continental.  We cannot control what the local low life can do however Members are requested to respect the garden for what it is - and that is for fresh herbs for our club kitchen. The rewards for the Members will be in the food.

2012 LADIES FOURSOMES CHAMPIONSHIPS

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 2012 CLUB CHAMPIONS : MICHELLE McGRATH & LYN BATES.

The weather turned on us just on the day of the club Foursomes Championships when we are all playing 27 holes of golf.  We had light showers early in the day and then it fined up to be not a bad day until the afternoon when the skies closed in and the late players got drenched. ("not happy Jan")  We had a lot of rain overnight and the course was very wet to start with so the going was tough at times.

My playing partner was Rosemary Cohen and we played with Lorraine Bignall & Chris Cayley.  We did have a lovely day (apart from the wet) with some good highlights the best of which was Lorraine's drive to the 5th green where she won nearest the pin  Rosemary & I were astounded to find that we had won the nett in Division 2 when we came into the clubhouse and that was the cause of much celebration.

The Golf Event of the day was the Ladies Foursomes Championship 2012 - Division 1 Handicaps 0 to 26 1/2; Division 2 Handicaps 27 to 45.

We had 68 starters.

12TH HOLE:

DIVISION 1:  Sandy Laybutt

DIVISION 2:  Not won

BALLS WENT TO:  81 Nett

NO HANDICAPPING TODAY. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF OUR WINNERS!

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me:  Lyn Bates had a birdie gobbler for 3 on the 7th; Rhonda Robertson & Ann Baker had a birdie; Jan Martin & Rosemary Cohen had a nice par on the 3rd and played the 7th hole well on the second time around; Lorraine Bignall and Chris Cayley had some nice pars on the par 3's including the 5th hole when Lorraine hit a magic drive.

As we were in the latter groups to come in (the wet bedragled ones) I did not have time to gather any more highlights - however,  if there were any they would have faded into insignificance after Rosemary & I won the Nett in our division.

F-Troop - Monday 28th May 2012

We had twelve F-Troopers on hand to share the load today.  Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Martin Gallagher, Bruce White, Trevor Harrison, Richard Casey, Rob Benson, Peter Martin, Garry Trigg, Di Beechey. Anne Burgess and Jan Martin managed to get some good projects done.

Duncan, Martin, Geoff, Garry & Bruce were the tree gang today and did a great job of removing dangerous branches around the course.

Rob & Richard had the daunting task of picking up loose timber and rubbish from around the course after last weekend's wild wind.

Trevor Harrison put his building skills to work repairing the roof support on the F-Troop Shed and replacing broken path boards at the 13th ladies tee.

Peter Martin was supervisor and gofer for everyone including a run to Wamberal to collect a trailer full of succulent plants for our gardens and delivering them out to the gardens and set up a watering hose.

Di Beechey & Anne Burgess cleaned up the car park and BBQ area, 10th tee garden.
Di and Anne both helped me to plant in all of the succulent plants and get them watered in.

Morning tea of Gigantic Muffins were appreciated by the F-Troopers after a hard morning's work.
Thanks Chef John!

We had two more donations of plants for our gardens this week.  One was multiple orchid plants from Bert & Annie Brink.  Thanks and appreciation  Bert & Annie.   The second donation was from Bev Reynolds who has given us a full trailer & boot load of succulent plants.  These plants will be a great enhancement for our gardens and brighten up otherwise very dreary and untidy areas.  Our thanks & appreciation to Bev who has donated the plants in memory of her late husband - Peter Reynolds.

We are very appreciative of all the donations that we get and we can produce very attractive areas for zero cost to the club. THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO ALL OUR MEMBERS WHO HAVE DONATED PLANTS TO OUR GARDENS.

Members please note that the garden at the 2nd green along the fence line is now a designated garden.  There have been two drop zones marked at either end of the garden.

YES!  WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Golf - Sunday 27th May 2012

There were many comments today regarding the good condition of Gosford Golf Course and we were lucky to have blue sky and sunshine all day as an added enhancement.

Our playing partners were Ron & Lynn Puiatti and we had a good day out on the course with the boys producing two birdies however the girls did beat the boys for the keno ticket on the last hole with a nice three pointer from Lynn. We welcomed back Cyril & Shirley Daly and their daughter Natasha, who were visiting after extended break from golf and we had dinner with them after golf at the clubhouse.

The tables were jam packed tonight with the golfers enjoying a social evening after golf (see attached photos) and many of whom stayed on for dinner.

Golf - Friday 25th May 2012

We have been very fortunate this week to have donations of multiple plants for our gardens which will some good enhancements to our garden areas.  We have received a very generous donation of 100's of Agavi plants and succulents from Bev Reynnolds who has donated the plants in memory of her late husband Peter Reynolds who was one of our local heroes in swimming history and also a well known local solicitor.   These plants are in the process of being planted at the ladies garden at the 3rd tee, the 2nd green garden and behind the clubhouse to replace the fallen pine trees.  Also planted out today were 50 more Rhoeos at the Tranquility garden at the 6th which were propagated from donations from Robin Incoll.

We had a very good attendance at Friday Night Raffle and Badge Draw considering it was a very cold winters day.  The Badge draw tonight was not won and will now jackpot to next week which will be approximately $1,4000.   And remember you have to be present at the clubhouse at the time of the draw to win.

Friday Night Raffles and Badge Draw have had a new innovation that has proved popular with the Members  and that is table cloths on the tables for those Members wishing to enjoy dinner at the club on the night.

Tonight was the last Friday Night of the Month when the Natrad Monthly Award is drawn for $100 prize.
This draw is taken from the barrel where tickets from the previous Month's Friday nights  are stored (Members place their raffle tickets from each Friday night in the Barrel to qualify for the draw).
Tonight's draw was won by Paula Drew who is a regular on Friday Nights.  Congratulations Paula!
Congratulations & thanks to Graeme Wright for his continuing support to the club.
