The course was very wet underfoot today after the recent rain and we had some light showers during play. It was hard work for most of us slogging out the 27 holes through mud and puddles.  My playing partner was Rosemary Cohen and our other players were Kath Payn & Marie Eddy and Annie Brink & Elly Van Den Berg.  We enjoyed the day even if the golf was not always good.  We did have some highlights and Rosemary & I won a ball.

Ladies Pennant Results - Monday 27th May 2013

Results of the Gosford Ladies Pennants matches played today:

1ST DIV:  not played (now finished)

2ND DIV:  Won

3RD DIV:  Won 6 to nil.

The 3rd Division look like they could finish in 3rd place which is a great result as we were struggling for numbers at the start and more than half of the girls have never played matchplay before.

Congratulations to all!

F-Troop - Monday 27th May 2013

We had a few hazards to contend with today with a group of 60 social players on the course and as well it rained on our parade just to make things a little more difficult.  We had eleven volunteers which was good for a cold wintery day.

We had Trevor Harrison, Don Nicholls, Rob Benson, Peter Martin, Warren Gray, Garry Trigg, Duncan Dyer, Martin Gallagher, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess and Jan Martin to share the load.  Because we could not work too much out on the course we took on projects that were on the outskirts away from wayward golf balls.

The Tree gang of Duncan Dyer, Peter Martin, Martin Gallagher & Garry Trigg worked on taking down two trees at the back of the practice chipping area near the 1st tee assisted by the greenstaff & bobcat to remove the heavy base of the trees.

Trevor Harrison & Don Nicholls did some good maintenance work - repairing the damaged brick fence in the front parking area and repairing the damaged security fence at the back of the 10th green.

Rob Benson & Warren Gray did rubbish pick up and then helped with the removal of the tree branches at the practice chipping area.

Di Beechey and Anne Burgess fertilized the camellias in Camellia Way, did a good job of raking up some of the untidy tees and cleaned up at the bush toilets.

I worked around the wedding garden area raking up and weeding the back gardens near the practice nets and then gave the practice nets a good rake out and sweep; planted in some mondo grass donated by Martin Gallagher.

We had a lovely slice for morning tea which was very welcome after we had all got a bit damp working in the rain.  Thanks Chef John!

We had some great news during the week.  The Central Coast Leagues Club Social Golfers donated $200 to F-Troop which was really appreciated.  This will cover the cost of the shade arbor that was built at the 14th which a lot of the Members will appreciate especially next summer.  A BIG THANK YOU TO MICHAEL BROWN AND THE CENTRAL COAST LEAGUES CLUB SOCIAL GOLFERS!

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Golf - Sunday 25th May 2013

We had a wonderful day for golf today.  Blue sky and sunshine which was very welcome after last week's rainfall.  The course was still holding some water but considering how much rain we had it was not too bad.

Our playing partners today were Garry & Dorren Trigg and we had a very enjoyable day on the course with great company and some of us played good golf (let us not mention names).  We had some good highlights with both Peter and Garry scoring birdies while Doreen and I kicked in with our two pointers when it mattered, sufficiently so that we were not the lowest scorers of the group.

The Golf Event of the day was a Teams Event 1 X 2 X 3 + Single Stableford for Men and Ladies.

We had 80 starters with 3 visitors from USA, Camden Valley & The Coast.

RESULTS:

Golf - Thursday 23rd May 2013

I think it is safe to say that there was no golf competition played by the Ladies today.  We have had rain on and off all day with the course looking rather wet at the moment.  Predictions say that it will clear for the weekend so hopefully the worst is over.  We did need the rain and the gardens are happy.

Check with the Pro Shop regarding the state of the course for play tomorrow.

We had a lovely sunny day for golf today.  After a chilly start it soon warmed up to a beautiful fine day.

My playing partners were Georgina Lamb & Julie Hazzard and we had some highs and lows through the day including Georgina's Buggy breaking down at the 15th.  We did have a bit of a tree challenge today among the three of us and a very lost ball in the bulk large leaves on the 2nd but thankfully no water hazards.

Ladies Pennants Results - Monday 20th May 2013

Div 1 - Lost

Div 2 - Draw

Div 3 - Lost

My thanks to Di Beechey for forwarding these results.

F-Troop - Monday 20th May 2013

We had a chilly start to our morning's work but it soon warmed up with a bit of hard work.

We had eleven volunteers today which was good for a cool autumn morning.

On hand we had Trevor Harrison, Rob Benson, Peter Martin, Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Martin Gallagher, Bruce White, Garry Trigg , Clyde Cruickshanks, Anne Burgess and Jan Martin.

The Tree Gang of Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Martin Gallagher, Bruce White & Garry Trigg brought down a dead tree on the 13th fairway which was cleaned up with the help of the greens staff and the bobcat.

The Painting Gang today was made up of Peter Martin, Trevor Harrison, Rob Benson & Clyde Cruickshanks and their mission was to paint the Bush Toilets.  They did a great job and it is amazing what a coat of fresh paint can do. Peter later fixed up the watering systems at the 1st and the 10th tee gardens.

Anne Burgess and I were kept busy on many small and large tasks - checking out the damage at the back of the 10th tee at the fence line where we have had dogs digging up the gardens and also have had some low life cutting down the security fence to gain unlawful entry to the club grounds.  The new vine at the 14th tee was fertilized and watered; the olive trees were sprayed and treated with Confidor; the three shrubs next to the wedding garden were treated with Confidor as some grubs had got to the leaves;  the garden behind the putting green was cleaned out; weeded & trimmed and the Azaleas were sprayed; the Roses at the putting green were sprayed; the Wedding Garden was raked, weeded and watered; the pathway was raked and the practice nets were given a lick and a promise; the BBQ garden was tidied up by Anne; plants at the back of the 5th green and the 5th tee were watered.

Morning tea was some huge iced buns which were welcome after a hard morning at work.  Our thanks to Chef John!

The Course was very busy today with a contingent of Vets players so we were not able to do our normal rubbish pick up.  We did get some good projects finished today.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

F-Troop Monday 13th May 2013

We had a very productive F-Troop Day even though we only had a small crew (could have been something to do with the live coverage of the Golf???)  we did get two very good projects finished.

We had Trevor Harrison, Geoff Bridge, Rob Benson, Peter Martin, Sam Knox,  Di Beechey, Anne Burgess and Jan Martin to share the load.

Trevor, Geoff and Rob did a fantastic job of finishing off the garden shade arbor at the 14th tee.  They removed the potted plants, re-positioned the seat to the middle of the arbor, replaced the pavers and trimmed the slats on the top of the arbor.   This project is now complete and waiting for the vine to grow over to create some shade for next summer.

Peter Martin was on pick up duty with the help of the boys after they finished the arbor.

Sam Knox did some wood splitting to build up our supply of firewood. - Thanks Sam!

Di Beechey cleaned up the car park and the BBQ garden, weeded, placed down the weed matting and mulched the garden at the 15th roundabout, tidied up the olive trees and the lavender garden and then helped me to weed the garden at the 10th tee.  The 15th garden projects are now completed.

Anne Burgess tidied up the hedges after they had been trimmed, tidied up the water feature, treated the roses with white oil and tidied up around the 1st and 10th tees.

I managed to get most of the small hedges trimmed around the 1st and 10th tees, helped Di with the weed matting and mulching at the 15th garden, helped with the mulching at the 14th tee; weeded and trimmed the garden at the 10th tee. During the week the putting green gardens got hedged & trimmed and the back gutters cleaned out.

We really appreciated morning tea of fruit pastries fresh from the oven - Thanks Chef John!

We have got some more projects lined up for next week and keep working on our maintenance work which keeps the course nice and tidy.

The firewood sales orders are starting to come in so be sure to secure your order while we have still got quality wood supplies.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
