Golf - Tuesday 30th September 2014

We had a nice warm day for golf today, luckily there was a bit of wind and some cloud cover that kept the temperature down a little.

My playing partners were Yvonne Cumming and Sandra Innes and we had a lovely day on the Village Green with some good highlights - the best of which was Yvonne's putting and two 4 pointers and three 3 pointers from Sandra.

The Golf Event of the day was a Single Stableford + Vets + CCDGA Challenge Cup Qualifying.

We had 55 starters with two visitors - Barbara Randall (Lynwood) and Sue Hutton (Wyong).

RESULTS:

DIVISION 1 - 0 TO 21:

WINNER:  Rosalie Dyer - 43 points

RUNNER UP:  Lyn Bates - 40 points

DIVISION 2 - 22 TO 32:

WINNER:  Gail Kellet - 42 points

RUNNER UP:  Jan Martin - 38 points (Hooray!)

DIVISION 3 - 32 TO 45:

WINNER:  Sheila Williams - 42 points

RUNNER UP:  Jann Henebury - 40 points

NEAREST THE PINS:

8TH HOLE:

DIV 1:  Rosalie Dyer

DIV 2:  Not won

DIV 3:  Not won

14TH HOLE:

DIV 1:  Sheena Asken

DIV 2:  Gail Kellet

DIV 3:  Sheila Williams

BALLS WENT TO:  36 points on a countback

DSR:  To be advised

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me:  We were the last group in today so I ran out of time to collect highlights.  I noted that Sheena Asken's drive to the 14th was sitting just behind the hole cms from going in and would have been a good Hole-in-One chance.

I believe that there was evidence of some large snakes about the 17th fairway - so beware when you are out on the course - and make plenty of noise if you venture into hazard areas.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL IN THE UPCOMING CHAMPIONSHIPS!

F-Troop - Monday 29th September 2014

Whew!  What a huge day we had at F-Troop today.

We had 10 volunteers and got some good projects finished.

On hand were Duncan Dyer, Trevor Harrison, Rob Benson, Geoff Bridge, Warren Gray, Don Nicholls, Peter Martin, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess and Jan Martin.

The boys collectively worked on taking down the rest of the big dangerous tree at the back of the 16th Tee.  It was a big job and well done by the F-Troopers.  Picking up the fallen timber was a job by itself.

Warren Gray & Rob Benson also did rubbish pick up around the course.

Di Beechey and Anne Burgess  worked on installing a decorative water pump and a bird bath at the 18th Tee gardens as well as watering the gardens in Camellia Way.

I worked in various places including cleaning up at the Bush Toilet area and watering the plants there, tidying up the 6th Tee garden, worked with Ron Gowing renewing the plants in the Vertical Garden at the 1st Tee, watered the gardens at the 1st and 10th, planting in four trees ( two African Red Tulip Trees (Spathodea) and two Jacaranda Trees) at the 17th dogleg corner - all trees were donated by Members.

Morning Tea of mini cakes were appreciated by F-Troop after a hard morning's work. Thank you Chef Brad!

After morning Tea Trevor Harrison repaired the broken protective fence around the hedges at the front steps of the club.  (The fence has only been up a week or so)

My thanks to Ron Gowing for his kind donations of various plants and trees for the course and for lending his expertise in planting the Vertical Garden.    A BIG THANK YOU to all our supporting Members.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

CONGRATULATIONS TO MITCH BALLARD ON HIS FIRST HOLE-IN-ONE AT RYDE PARRAMATTA GOLF CLUB.   Well done Mitch!
