Final Round of the Encourage Shield - Tuesday 27th September 2016

The final round of the Encourage Shield was played today at Toronto. Our last match was against ShellyBeach with the winners progressing to the State Semi Finals later this year. Unfortunately our team was beaten 5 and 1/2 to 1/2. Jemison Fitzgerald played extremely well going down 3/2. Riley Millers was beaten 5 and 4. Both young men have learnt valuable golf  experiences and met new friends. Thank you Jemison and Riley for representing our club and look forward to both of you forming the backbone of a new junior golf generation at Gosford.

Jemison is 7th from left and Riley is with the red cap.

Encouragement Shield - Monday 26th September 2016

Results day 1.26th September 2016

Riley Millers and Jamison Fitzgerald represented Gosford in a composite CCDGA team comprising 2 from Gosford, 3 from Shelley Beach and One fromToukley. Our first match was against Newcastle DGA where we were beaten 4 matches to two. Jamison won his match 4 and 3 while Riley played extremely well to lose one down on the 18th.

Our second match was against Toukley. The CCDGA team defeated them 4 1/2 to 1 and 1/2. Jamison and Riley performed extremely well with two good wins. Jamison won 5 and 3 and Riley avenged his morning defeat on the 18th with winning his match one up on the 18th.

Both Jamison and Riley have represented the club with distinction and have handled themselves as fine ambassadors for the Club

The final round is played at Toronto on tuesday 27th September where we take on Shelley Beach. We have warned them they all need a early night as the CCDGA team is out to beat them.

My thanks to Graham Chee for this report.

Garden back in order at the 6th tranquility garden

We had a great day for our F-Troop work today with thirteen volunteers to share the load.

On hand were Trevor Harrison, Duncan Dyer, Kevin O'Brien, Geoff Bridge, Rob Benson, Terry Coyle, Steve Hogg, John Hollebon, Sam Knox, Nigel Asken, Peter Martin, Di Beechey and Jan Martin.

Projects worked on today were removal of old grevillea trees, rubbish removal around the course, tree maintenance at the 1st, garden edges at the 6th, trimming of shrubs at the 6th, hedge maintenance, removal of weed from the 3rd dam, tidying up the car park, tidying up underneath the clubhouse, replacing wooden benches in the BBQ Garden, preparation of firewood, collecting donated table and chairs, replacing damaged pots at the 6th tranquility garden, maintenance to the garden at the 6th tranquility garden, tidying the 3rd ladies tee, cleaning the bush toilets, maintenance to the gardens at the 14th green space, tidying the wall garden at the back of the 10th tee.

We enjoyed our morning tea of savoury breads, donuts, cakes and iced buns - Thank you Barto!

It was incredibly disappointing to find that the garden at the 6th tee had been damaged by vandals over the weekend. That is one of the down sides of maintaining a public place - there is very little we can do to stop low life doing damage at will. Those responsible have serious mental health issues to have a need to destroy things.  I would like to think it would not be a golfer with anger management issues.  The damage has been repaired to a point that we will not lose the plants and it was zero cost to the club to do the repairs thanks to donations we receive from supporting members.

Should any members notice any suspicious vandal behaviour by people out on the course please alert the Pro Shop, more likely to happen at quiet times of the day when there are not too many people around.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
