We had a great day for golf and to celebrate Melbourne Cup Day.  My playing partners were Alice Diamond, Jan Walker and Jann Henebury and we had a very enjoyable day on the village green. The golf was followed by a lovely buffet luncheon and fashion parade leading up to the big race.  A very successful day all around.

The golf events of the day were a 4 Person Ambrose for the Men off the back tees and a Las Vegas Ambrose for the girls off the front tees.

Melbourne Cup Draw - Monday 31st October 2016

A great evening was held at Gosford Golf Club for the Melbourne Cup Draw for horses which was well attended by approximately 80 guests. Well Run, as usual, by Mark Stimpson. 

I have attached a copy of the horses as drawn - So good luck to all and have a wonderful Melbourne Cup day at Gosford Golf Club where there will be golf, lunch, and a tad of gambling.

Funeral arrangements for the Late Cyril Daly

I can confirm that the funeral for the Late Cyril Daly will be held at 10.00am on this Friday 4th November 2016 at St. Patrick's Church, East Gosford and afterwards at the Florida Bar at Terrigal.

This is a fly trap at my brother-in-laws opal mine 80 kms out of Cunnamulla Qld.

It has to be emptied half way through the day because it gets too full. - now that is a fly problem!

No rain today so we had no interruptions to our projects.

On hand we had Trevor Harrison, Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Kevin O'Brien, Rob Benson, Don Nicholls, Peter Martin, Mark Stimpson, Garry Trigg, Nigel Asken, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess and Jan Martin.

Among today's projects were tree maintenance at the 3rd Tee; cleaning out more weed from the 3rd dam; removal of loose timber and rubbish from around the course; tidying the BBQ Garden and adding more plants, tidying the garden at the 12th Green; watering the wedding garden; tidying up around the clubhouse; finishing the trimming of the gardens at the 1st and 10th tees and treating the shrubs with fertiliser and season; cleaning the 14th bush toilets; planting in a new Agave and some bulbs at the 14th Greenspace and watering the gardens there; tidying the 6th tranquility garden and watering the pots there; watering the bike garden; watering the garden at the 9th ladies tee; watering and adding potting mix to the pot at the 9th green; adding a hose support to the wall garden at the 1st.

After a hard morning's work we were happy to ring the bell for morning tea. We enjoyed our savoury breads, iced buns, slices and cakes - Thank you Barto!

We escaped the rain today and the Village Green was a pleasant place to be.  Our playing partners were Grant and Kerry Williams and we had a great day with many highlights. The best highlight was our team win where we achieved three x 4 pointers and only 2 x 2 pointers, all the rest were three pointers spread across all of our team - so we combined well, our champion was Kerry who came in with a nice 40 points and Peter got a great birdie at the 10th for a 4 pointer to kick off our second nine.

The golf Event of the day was a Single Stableford for Men and Ladies, Team One Score to count.

We had 70 starters.

The Late Cyril Daly

Our Long Time Member Cyril Daly has sadly passed away today Saturday 29th October 2016. Cyril will be well remembered by our older club members and played golf up until his health would no longer allow him to several years ago. Our deepest sympathy to Shirley and family.

I will post the funeral arrangement details when they come to hand.

Nine and Dine - 9 Holes

This was a special Event to highlight the end of Month Member draw, monthly member draw which was in excess of $3,500, and Friday Night Club Raffles.  The draw tonight was extended to $3,500 for the first draw, if the member was not present at the club at the time of the draw then a further draw was done for $500, if the member was not drawn then there was to be two draws for $250 until a member who was present in the club was drawn. Tonight the draw resulted in two winners present at the time of the draw who won $250 each.

2ND WINNER: Angelique Scholberg - $250

It was pleasing to see that both of these winners were regular supporters of our Friday Night Members Night.

Another good result was our end of month draw which is a ticket drawn from the barrel from all of the months raffle tickets which accumulate over the month.  The result was again one of our regular Friday  Night Members - Steve Thomlinson who won $50.

The Golf Event of the evening was a Single Stableford Medley Nine and Dine.

We had 30 starters with 3 visitors from Shelly Beach.

Our playing partners today were Ray Buttsworth and Di Beechey and we had a very enjoyable time on the Village Green. The weather was kind and it was lovely to be out on the course in the late afternoon. Every time I play this Nine and Dine I remind myself I should be out here on the course more often at this time of the day playing in the late afternoon when in is so pleasant and daylight savings gives us the best time of the day to be here when it is not too hot.

We had a much nicer day for golf today with plenty of blue sky and sunshine. My playing partners were Yvonne Cumming and Carol Farrell and we had a lovely day on the village green. Our best highlight was Yvonne's gobbler chip on the 9th for 4/4, Yvonne had two 4 pointers and some good 3 pointers for her 39 points, carol had a 4 pointer on the 5th and a good two pointer on the 11th.

We could not complain about the heat today with some cool chill breeze still around.  That did not deter our volunteers for today's projects.

On hand were Trevor Harrison, Duncan Dyer, Kevin O'Brien, Geoff Bridge, Terry Coyle, Steve Hogg, Garry Trigg, Don Nicholls, Peter Martin, Mark Stimpson, Di Beechey and Jan Martin.

More tree maintenance was done on the course.

A discovery made today at the 3rd ladies tee - the boys spotted nine duck eggs in one of our elk horns in the big tree close to the dam with mother duck close by to guard them.

Other projects were cleaning up around the clubhouse including the leaves massed at the back of the clubhouse, more work done on the vertical garden at the 1st; further splitting of firewood for next years firewood sales; rubbish and loose timber pick up around the course; cleaning the bush toilets; watering the gardens in the green space at the 14th; tidying the 6th tranquility garden; watering the potted plants at the 5th and 6th tees, bike garden, ladies 9th tee garden, potted plant at the 9th green; fertilised the pots in the wedding garden; fertilised the pots at the practice nets; finished trimming the tibouchina shrubs at the 10th tee and fertilised them.

We welcomed morning tea of savoury breads, donuts, iced buns - Thank you Barto!
