Golf - Tuesday 30th September 2008

We have had some wonderful scores emerging over the last few weeks which must mean the course is improving & we like blue sky and sunshine.
I was pre-occupied with other matters today & did not play golf - just as well because a nice score of 36 did not even win a ball. In fact I know of some players who got 37 points and still missed out on a ball and lost point 4 off their handicap. The handicaps should soon come tumbling down and get scoring back to an even keel.
The event today was a single stableford event with vets in conjunction. We had 80 starters with visitors Ann Richardson from Cromer, Ruth Blake from Mona Vale.
RESULTS:
DIVISION 1:
WINNER: Michele Martin - 41 points on a countback
RUNNER UP: Lorraine Linnert - 41 points
DIVISION 2:
WINNER: Helen Stuart - 43 points on a countback
RUNNER UP: Linda Rankin - 43 points
3RD: Rosie Judd - 41 points on a countback
4TH: Sandra Laybutt - 41 points
DIVISION 3:
WINNER: Yvonne Cumming - 40 points
RUNNER UP: Linda Hartley - 38 points
NEAREST THE PINS:
DIVISION 1: 8TH hole: Doon Jansen; 14TH hole: Ann Burgess
DIVISION 2: 8TH hole: Sandra Laybutt; 14TH HOLE: Evelyn Dixon
DIVISION 3: 8TH hole: Doreen Vines; 14TH hole: not won
BALLS WENT TO: 37 points on a countback
CCR: 73 (36 points)
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY: I arrived at presentation a little too late to collect any highlights however I note that Helen Stuart scored 43 points today. Had she done that on Sunday our team would have been down for the count. Thanks for getting your timing right Helen.
Robyn Johnston had a good highlight by winning the fruit & vegie tray in the raffle.

F-Troop - Monday 29th September 2998

Today was another productive day for F-Troop with some hard working members raking and picking up loose timber; filling in holes and drains; removing dangerous & infected trees; clearing paths; rough cutting; chopping & bagging firewood for F-Troops firewood-for-sale project.
Proceeds from the sale of firewood go towards the payment of the F-Troop work utility & purchase of new plants and trees for our course. Get your orders in now - we have 12 bags stocked and on the ready for you to stockpile for next winter and at a mere $10 per bag it is a bargain.
We welcomed Peter Murphy as a new member to F-Troop (photo attached) & Peter was put to work as a driver and rough cutter.

F- Troop - Firewood for our members

As you are all aware our F-Troop does a lot of work clearing old timber from the course on a regular basis as part of the course beautification project. As a result there is a good supply of selected firewood being cut up and stocked.

This timber is available for purchase at $10 per bag (see size indicated above) - cash only please.

The proceeds from this timber will be put back towards the costs of beautifying our course so it is all for a good cause. Orders can be placed with Clyde Cruickshanks or myself & stocks will be available on request on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

We can always use more F-Troop workers if you feel that you can contribute in any way and the Adopt-a-Garden scheme is still open for more volunteers.

Please see Clyde Cruickshanks or myself.

Golf - Tuesday 23rd September 2008

Today was a very special day at our Golf Club for the ladies because it is the "Mark Churcher Day" that everyone loves to support. It is a very popular day and it is a shame that rain interfered to an extent with the numbers and the results - however it did produce some good highlights.

We had 77 starters which was good considering the overnight rain & heavily laden skies this morning. I did come accross some very damp & ruffled ladies at the end of the competition but they all were still smiling even if their highlight of the day was finishing the last hole.

The rules for today were that Division 1 were to play stroke off the blue markers; Division 2 were to play stableford off the white markers and Division 3 were to play stableford off the white markers.

RESULTS:

DIVISION 1: (PLAYING STROKE OFF THE BLUE MARKERS)
WINNER: Michele Martin - 77 nett
RUNNER UP: Leonie Casey - 78 nett
3RD: Doon Jansen - 79 nett

DIVISION 2: (PLAYING STABLEFORD OFF THE WHITE MARKERS)
WINNER: Marianne Lanham - 34 points
RUNNER UP: Doreen Trigg - 32 points
3RD: Julie Hazzard - 31 points
4TH: Jan Fitzgerald - 30 points

DIVISION 3: (PLAYING STABLEFORD OFF THE WHITE MARKERS)
WINNER: June Bowen - 30 points on a countback
RUNNER UP: Margaret Nichols 30 points
3RD: Val Scott - 29 points

NEAREST THE PINS:
DIVISION 1: 8th HOLE: Linda Rogers; 14th HOLE: Debbie Grinham
DIVISION 2: 8th HOLE: not won; 14th HOLE: Yvonne Wilson
DIVISION 3: 8th HOLE: not won; 14th HOLE: Val Scott

BALLS WENT TO: Division 1: 82 nett; Division 2 & 3 : 27 points on a countback

THERE WAS NO HANDICAPPING TODAY AS WE DID NOT PLAY OFF THE OFFICIAL RED MARKERS.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: Doon Jansen had a birdie on the 5th; Kay Adams had a birdie on the 10th; Robyn Johnston playing on the 9th hit her drive into the tree on the left, the ball went backwards & it took her four shots to get out of the trees and near the green where she chipped in off the green and into the hole to score 6; Robin Incoll parred the 16th and was in the hole on the 17th for 5; Rhonda Robertson had a FMLT (failed to make the ladies tee); Debbie Grinham Parred the 3rd and the 7th; Michele Martin parred the 2nd and the 13th; Lorraine Linnert on the 17th tee hit her drive out of bounds into the Narara creek, so hitting 3 off the tee onto the bunker on the 16th, then onto the path on the 17th, hit a tree and the ball finished up behind her - on that hole she scored 11 but it doesn't finish there....on the 18th she was on the green for four and 5 putted for 9; Julie Hazzard & Helen Stuart had a great highlight by getting over the water at the 3rd from the white markers; Jan Fitzgerald had 5 on the 9th; Yvonne Wilson got nearest the pin on the 14th; Sharon Anderson parred the 14th; Elizabeth McNamara was not in the water on the front nine; Margaret Pratt went to get out her wet gear from her bag when it started raining & pulled out her swimsuit that had been accidently put in her golf bag.( I would have liked to have had the camera handy for that one)

SOME OTHER HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY: Glennis English has announced the safe arrival of her new granddaughter Zahra Jade, 6lbs 4 ozs, black hair and is just beautiful like her grandmother; Kay Frewin's lovely grandaughter Millie joined us at presentation today; Rosalie Dyer was showing off her two beautiful grandchildren today - Ellie and Max (photo attached); It was Debbie Grinham's birthday today which was cause for much celebration.

Today was a single stableford event & a lovely sunny day to play golf. We had 72 starters with visitors from Mangrove Mountain - Julie Curran & Carol Goding.

I did not play today because I am resting my arm (tennis elbow) so that I can play in Tasmania next week. Our group is going to play Barnbougle Dunes course twice, then Royal Hobart & The Tasmanian course. Should be fun!

Last Thursday we had some special events happen & of course I was not there to capture the moment - so have some photos today to make up:
