Golf - Saturday 30th April 2011

The Laycock Theatre was a busy place tonight with a full house to see & hear Tom Burlinson belt out some old favourites that we all love to re-visit. It was a very entertaining show with a good back up band - Tom did some great songs from the well known artists - Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Jnr and Bobby Darrin.

The rain showers continued on and off during the day. The golf continued with preferred lies throughout the green. I understand that it was very wet underfoot but that did not stop some great scores from coming in.

The golf Event of the day was a Men's Single Stroke - Monthly Medal and the 1st qualifying Round Matchplay Championships - 1st 16 in each grade to qualify.

We had 147 starters with 1 visitor from Bondi.

Thursday 28th April 2011

Rain drenched roses in my garden today give you an indicator of how much rain we have had.

(photos attached)

The Golf Event of the day was a Ladies Single Stableford. Unfortunately the rain has continued to fall overnight & showers throughout the day which discouraged a lot of golfers from the course.

The Ladies Competition was a non-event once again which is a shame as we have a lot of keen golfers who would have liked to have played today as Tuesday was washed out as well.

Let us hope that tomorrow brings some blue sky and sunshine so we can get out on our course again.

Easter is traditionally a wet weather time which is devastating for golfers and the Golf Club business. Let's hope the sun shines through in the next week in spite of the dire forecasts.

Golf - Wednesday 27th April 2011

The Easter wet weather continues but it was not enough to stop our Men's Competition from going ahead. I understand that the course was not too bad considering all the continuing rain we have received. It was wet underfoot in some places and the bunkers once again have suffered.
There are more showers forecast for tomorrow but hopefully it will not be enough to stop the golf events from going ahead. The course is more weather proof than it has ever been before so a never-say-die attitude is good to have as it has been quite warm when the sun periods come through.

The Golf Event of the day was a Men's Single Stableford + Teams Event.

We had 187 starters with 5 visitors from Oberon, PGA, Shelly Beach, Warringah & Wyong.

RESULTS:

TEAM EVENT RESULTS:

WINNERS: Ian Hartley, Spencer Walklate, Sharman Singh & Garry Trigg - 53 points

MEN'S SINGLE RESULTS:

WINNER: David Baldwin - 42 points

Golf - Tuesday 26th April 2011

I kept Joel amused over the wet Easter break with walks to the Gosford Railway to watch the trains come and go. (photo attached)

The Golf Event of the day was a Ladies Single Stableford.

Alas! It was another bad weather day so we did not have any lady golfers interested in playing in the rain so the competition day was a non-event.

The course is open and in surprisingly good condition after all the rain and there were social players out playing today.

F-TROOP - STUMP REMOVALS DAY TWO:

Our F-Troopers had another full day of hard work getting out as many tree stumps as possible while we still had the excavator to do the stump removals.

Today we had Duncan Dyer, Peter Martin, Martin Gallagher, Noel Fenning, Fred Middleton, Bruce White, George Foster and Tony (the excavator driver) with myself acting as gofer for the morning teas and lunches so that the boys could work through without interruption.

I am not sure of the number of stumps that were collectively removed over the two day project but members should notice a big improvement in many areas of the course where previously the stumps were unsightly or dangerous to carts and machinery.

A word of WARNING for anyone using carts or trikes on the course for the next few weeks - the area on the 6th fairway along the creek where many stumps have been removed - the soil is very soft where the stumps have come out and new soil had gone in ( as we found out today when the F-Troop Ute got bogged). This area had been greatly improved over the last couple of weeks by F-Troopers and it will be able to be kept neat by the rough cutter now that the stumps are out of the way.

MANY THANKS TO OUR MEMBERS WHO HAVE VOLUNTEERED THEIR TIME FOR THE STUMP REMOVAL PROJECT - YOU ARE ALL LEGENDS!

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

F-Troop - Monday 18th April 2011

This was the first day of the F-Troop major two day stump removal project organised with precision by Martin Gallagher. We had some good helpers volunteer for day one. Those I saw were Martin Gallagher, Geoff Bridge, Duncan Dyer, Peter Martin, Warren Gray, Noel Fenning, Bruce White, Des Wilson, Bert Brink & Mark Stimpson who all assisted Tony (our excavator driver) by filling in and repairing the ground after the stump removals. Also working in the gardens with me today was Anne Burgess who put in some good hours at the garden in Camellia Way & the BBQ garden.

I saw the results of some of the stump removals and the repair work done afterwards and it is amazing the difference it makes to have the unsightly stumps gone.

Chef John did a wonderful job supplying morning tea with muffins and lunch of assorted wraps and fresh fruit. Thanks John! - F-Troop really did enjoy & appreciate that after a hard morning's work.

The weather held today so we should be able to get another full day of work in tomorrow & hopefully we will have enough volunteers on hand to help out.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

A GRADE: Gosford won 4/2 (played at Gosford)
