F-Trooper John Hollebon - hedge maintenance in the rain

Even in the rain we can find maintenance jobs to do under cover - F-Trooper Di Beechey

F-Trooper Kevin O'Brien taking care of some cobwebs

F-Trooper Sam Knox taking care of maintenance on the outdoor furniture

This is what you are missing out on at F-Troop Morning Tea
available for our F-Troop volunteers every Monday

Rain, hail or sunshine F-Troopers are ready to work and contribute to the maintenance of the Gosford Golf Course and Clubhouse.  It is a very satisfying volunteer thing to do and our existing volunteers enjoy it so much they turn up even in wet weather as we can always find something useful to do.
Why don't you contribute when you have some free time of a Monday morning - more hands make light work.

On hand we had Kevin O'Brien, Don Nicholls, Terry Coyle, Sam Knox, Peter Martin, John Hollebon, Steve Hogg, Di Beechey & Jan Martin.

The Green staff were all busy on course maintenance using the tractor and equipment so we concentrated on jobs we could do that would keep us off the course.  Projects worked on today was hedge maintenance at the clubhouse and BBQ area, tidy up of the BBQ garden area, tidy up of the 1st and 10th tees, removal of the seat on the seat on the 1st tee that was past its use by date, maintenance to the outdoor furniture underneath the clubhouse, purchase of a BBQ cover for the upstairs BBQ, rake up of rubbish around the clubhouse and under the clubhouse, trimming back overgrown shrubs.

We enjoyed an early morning tea today with plenty of choice of goodies as you can see by the above photo.

After a very wet weekend the course was in need of a lot of maintenance with flash flooding occurring over the course.  There was a lot of loose timber , branches and rubbish to be picked up as well as gardens and paths to be tidied up.

On hand we had 13 volunteers today which was a huge help with our projects.

Projects worked on today was rubbish and loose timber pick up, removing and cutting up a large fallen branch, tidy up around the clubhouse, 1st & 10th tees & Wedding Garden, trimming of the hedge on the front street garden, tidy up of the BBQ garden, planting in of another 100 ground cover plants at the 6th tee garden, weeding existing gardens at the 6th tee, cleaning of the Bush Toilets.

Needless to say we did not have to worry about watering of the gardens today,

We did appreciate morning tea this morning - scones, cakes, iced buns and some special slices from Angelique Scholberg.

Nelson Bay Report

Nelson Bay Golf Trip

Again, this year 28 supremely fit, athletes travelled to Nelson Bay for a week of golf
.
Monday, Day one, Newcastle Golf Club. Winner Warren Guest with a magnificent 38 points, second rookie Steve (Manfred) Mann 34 points and in a close third Fast Eddie Rogers.

Tuesday, Day two. The day started on a sad note as one of our players had to withdraw from the competition

Last night in a totally unprovoked and cowedly attack by Port Stephens Council pavement one of us found himself in hospital with a dislocated shoulder. Not even our resident physician was able to put Humpty Dunky together again.

Golf was played with the remaining 27 at Horizons Golf Resort under sunny skies. Winner was Ross (Mr Radio) Bryant with 44 points. Tony Wood in second with 42 and Gary (John West) Sammons with 36 on a count back.

Wednesday was the traditional lay day. Punters club stayed in Nelson Bay and 12 left for Hawks Nest Golf Club to try their luck in a 4 person Ambrose.

Thursday, back to Horizons for another attempt to master this long course. The tees where back and the wind howling straight at us. Winner another rookie Ian (Snake) Rutherford with 38 points, Greg (Bluey) Thompson in second with 37 and John Golby third with 34

Friday, Championship day, at Pacific Dunes. We started with overcast drizzly skies but as soon as the first group hit off the weather improved. Winner on the day was Paul (The Ayatollah) Scholberg with 38, John Golby 36 C/B in second and Fast Eddie Rogers in third 36 C/B.

The overall winner of the John Bullivant Trophy was Greg (Bluey) Thompson 133, second Paul Scholberg 131 and third Tony Wood 129. The Bradman Award went to Tony Ahearn.

A massive thanks from all the participants goes to Garry Buggy and Ross Bryant for organising this great week.

Some of the diehards this morning on Gosford Golf Course seeking safety under the storm shelter

Some flash flooding at the 9th Fairway

more flash flooding at the 9th fairway

Video of the flash flooding at the 9th fairway.

My thanks to Zorro (Mark) Sorridimi for these breaking news photos.

A message of appreciation to the F-Troopers was received for the convenience of the storm shelter when some of our members were caught out in heavy rain far from the clubhouse.

There were a couple of improvement suggestions that came forwatd :

1, Could a dart board be installed in the shelter in case of prolonged rain.

2,  Could the grass underneath the shelter be raised so that players feet do not get wet during heavy rain.

I will forward these requests to the powers that be...

No golf results were published as of this moment so it seems that insufficient players managed the 18 holes.
