Pandora Charity Day - 30th April 2010

The Pandora Charity Day was a huge success with many supporters turning up to support in spite of the inclement weather. There were in excess of 100 starters with about 20 or so players who opted not to chance the weather.
As it turned out the weather cleared to a very comfortable day with cloud cover but no rain so we were all able to enjoy a lovely day out on the course. There were some great scores come in today which indicates that the course is recovering well from the recent maintenance of the greens. A lot of the guests stayed back at the clubhouse for Presentation & dinner which was good to see.
Our playing partners today were Helen Stuart & Yvonne Cumming and we had a great day with both Yvonne & Peter scoring 40 individual points each. Our team score was 93 points which was not that far behind the pace. We had a very enjoyable day with many highlights.

We hope a good amount of money was raised on this Charity Day as it was for a very worthy cause.

Golf - Friday 30th April 2010

The morning golf event was a Single Stableford for Men and Ladies and we had 36 starters with one visitor.

The morning started out overcast early morning and then settled into a steady drizzle which discouraged a lot of starters and the fact that Pandora had a Charity Day starting with a shot gun start at 12.30 depleted the field. There were insufficient players for a Ladies competition.

F-Troop Monday 26th April 2010

It takes more than a Public Holiday to stop F-Troop work. We have so much to do and so little time. Today we had six volunteers which was great to see, given that most people have other commitments on such long weekends.
Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Martin Gallagher & Des Wilson took care of some more nuisance & dangerous tree removal at the 17th fairway.
Peter Martin did some sand bagging at the garden at the 1st tee. The soil in this garden is almost pure sand. At the 15th fairway we are going to try sand bagging the top of the bunker on the left hand side as a temporary measure to stop water from pouring down from the hill into the bunker until such time as we can get some grasses established to do the job. We are taking the loamy soil from the garden at the 1st tee for the sand bagging and will replace it with some good quality garden soil so that a new garden can be established at the 1st.
Rosalie Dyer helped me to clean up around the putting green area and the gardens in this area,
I hedged the Little Gem Magnolia Garden & the small hedge around the putting green. Rosalie cleaned up the garden behind the Men's 10th tee and we did the magnolia garden and the putting green as well - cleaning out the gardens, raking & cleaning out the gutters around the putting green.
Martin, Geoff, Duncan & Peter helped to clean up the gutters & removed all the rubbish that we had collected. Would you believe a full ute load of rubbish just from this small area.
Many thanks to chef John for leaving us some morning tea cakes for our public holiday work when the kitchen was closed for the day.
It was a Stirling effort from our F-Troopers today.
YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Golf - Sunday 25th April 2010

We had some good steady rain overnight & also into the early morning which turned a lot of our Members off of golf today which was unfortunate as the weather cleared by mid morning with just a few showers later in the day. At the end of the day it turned out to be an alright day for golf & a lot of us missed out on a good day.

The event of the day was a Single Stableford for Men and Ladies.

We had 36 starters with 1 visitor from Terrigal.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: I do not have any highlights as we did not play today & missed presentation which normally allows me to gather highlights for the day.
I did hear one rumour that one of our Members, who shall remain undisclosed because she is shy, suddenly disappeared from the course before she was due to hit off as she had left some soup cooking on the stove. Well, that is better than finding the house burnt down after golf!

Golf - Thursday 22nd April 2010

F-Troopers put in some more hard yards today delivering firewood which is one of the projects to raise money to contribute towards the beautification of the course. To date we have raised $1,425.00 from the sale of timber with full credit going to our F-Trooper men for the effort that they have put into this work. We also managed to do a clean up at the front entrance to the club and raked up along the gutters of the side entrance road. The greens staff put in a great effort today trimming the major hedge which now looks sensational.

It was a beautiful day for golf & the greens had been cut down one more level which made for easier putting.

We had a lovely day for golf today with the warm weather lasting well into April we have been fortunate to miss some of winter's early chills. My playing partners today were Kay Adams & Helen Stuart who were great company. We had a nice day on the village green with not a lot of highlights along the way as we struggled to get the ball to the hole on the slow greens. The bi -annual maintenance has been done recently & slow greens are usual at this time until the greens are ready to be slicked down.

Another highlight of the day comes from Rosalie Dyer who became a grandmother again with the birth of a brand new grand daughter this afternoon at 1.50 pm - Tahlia Jaye weighing in between 6 1/2 and 7 lbs with blond curly hair. Congratulations to Rosalie & Duncan who are very proud grandparents. I am sure I will have a photo to follow....
