Paul Smith was a welcome new starter this morning.

Senior Pennants Results - 31st July 2022

Gosford played their final match of Pennants yesterday with B and C grade playing against Kooindah at Mangrove Mountain. A Grade was due to play their game last week but Kooindah could not field a team.

B grade had another strong win 2 ½ to ½ . Even though Everglades has two matches to play they are unable to catch Gosford and we will win the Pennant for the second year in a row. Well done to Bill and the boys and we look forward to a three-peat.

C grade also had a strong win 2 to 1. They will finish 2nd this year to a strong Mangrove Mountain team. C grade were consistent all year and could have finished a bit closer with a bit more luck.

A Grade also had a very good year and will finish third to strong Toukley and Shelly Beach teams. This is a very good result for our team and I believe that they will be a force to contend with next year.

Our Juniors have also done us proud and will complete their matches shortly and Richard Brien will provide us with a summary of their year.

Our strong results have left us well in front to win the Sterland Shield. Everglades has two matches in hand but need to win all three grades in both matches to tie. This a fantastic result for Gosford.

Thanks to all those that have played this year and also to the club and Pro shop staff for their assistance. Thanks to Graham Chee who has assisted throughout the year and to Richard who does a great job with the juniors.

F-Troop Morning Tea - Ron Gowing, John Hollebon, Peter Martin, Alan Graham (Jan Martin)

Garden at the 10th - bulbs potted and garden weeded

We had a very depleted team today due to the course being so wet. We could not work on the course but could get some work done off the course.

We only had four volunteers on hand but did achieve some good work.

On hand were Ron Gowing, John Hollebon, Peter Martin and Jan Martin.

Projects worked on were trimming of the overgrown camellia trees at the 18th, clean up of the paths in front of the clubhouse, paths to the 1st and 10th tees, putting green and practice nets, spraying infected hedge plants with white oil, potting up of bulbs and weeding of the 10th tee garden, pruning of the roses on the old putting green.

We were joined at morning tea today by previous member Alan Graham who called in to say hello. We were happy to share our fresh sandwiches with him and have a catch up.

The course has been very wet and is not helped by intermittent showers today. There were no carts allowed on the course.

We had 4 starters who thought better of the course conditions so no competition event was held.

There will be no carts allowed on tomorrow. Players will play off the white tees and due to the Councils damage - the 2nd hole will be played to the temporary green and remain a par 5

I also understand that the Mixed Team Series has been put back one week due to the course conditions,

Some endless sunshine in the future weeks would be so good!

Golf - Thursday 21st July 2022 - Ladies B Grade Singles Knock Out

Photos today of the second fairway after Council Works continued in that area.

My thanks to Vicki Foster for today’s photos.

I cannot believe that anyone played on the course today with so many showers continued most of the day and no carts were allowed on the course.

I understand we did have some starters in the B Grade Ladies Single Knockout and rumour has it that one match went to 20 holes. I think both these girls need a gold medal to go that long in such bad conditions.

RESULTS:

Denise Bentlin defeated Jan Fitzgerald

Cathy McGowan defeated Bev Adams (at the 20th hole)

Maria McGann defeated Midge Gill

Since seeing the photos of the course I think all of the three match players need a gold medal for the effort they put in to play in such bad conditions.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNERS AND ALL OF THE PLAYERS.

We had social play only today and thankfully the showers we did get were very, very light and should not have done further damage to the course.

Tomorrow we should have reprieve from heavy showers and some sunshine should be there.

There was no official F-Troop today due to the state of the course. We hope to be back in full action next week.
