Funeral arrangement for the Late Anne Stimpson

The funeral Service for the late Anne Stimpson will be held at Palmdale Hillside Chapel on Thursday 7th April 2016 at 11.30am and afterwards 1.00 pm at the Gosford Golf Club

The Late Anne Stimpson - 30th March 2016

It is with great sadness that I report the passing of Anne Stimpson, wife of our esteemed Captain Mark Stimpson who has been a member of our club for many  years. Anne passed away today  peacefully after a long illness. Anne was has been an acceptional  person who supported Mark through thick and thin, played golf with the ladies competition while her health allowed her to, including Sunday mixed golf competitions;  supported Mark in his role as Director and Captain of our Golf Club.  Anne is a very special person who will be sadly missed - especially by myself and Peter who have been closely associated with them and have very happy memories of them both at the golf club and special holidays together.  Rest In peace Anne!  We will always have special memories of you in our times together!

Barbara Stratford - Runner Up Div 2

Nan Richards - Winner Div 3

Helen Stuart - Runner Up Div 3

With Kathy Small and Cheryl Davison at the 1st Tee

Another showery day but thankfully it was not enough to make us bring out the wet gear. My playing partners were Cheryl Davison and Kathy Small who were great company. Our highlight of the day was bringing in Kathy as a winner of her division.

The Golf Event of the day was a Single Stableford 2nd Round of the CCWGA Brooch + Veterans in conjunction.

We had 57 starters which was not bad for a showery day.

RESULTS:

DIVISION 1 - 0 to 22:

GOSFORD LADY VETERAN BEST 5 STABLEFORD -  ROUND 2

BALL COMPETITION RESULTS

DIVISION 1 Helen Potter 37pts, Chris Drakeford 36pts, Lyn Bates 35pts

DIVISION 2 Kath Small 35pts, Barb Stratford 32pts, Mona Maher 32pts

DIVISION 3 Nan Richards 32pts, Helen Stuart 25pts, Denise Barr 25pts

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: Kathy Small played a nice steady game for her 35 points managing to keep her ball on the fairway for most of the game ( and that was the secret today as the rough was damp and very rough); Lynn Puiatti had a birdie on the 14th; my highlight was that it did not rain heavily, the diamond encrusted clubs played very well ( it was just the user that had the problem) and finishing with the same ball I started with. The greens were challenging today, dead slow and tricky to direct the ball.

There has been a new ruling announced today regarding a change in the Ladies Eagles Nest. The Ladies Eagles Nest hole has now reverted back to the 12th Hole.

Golf - Monday 28th March 2016 - EASTER MONDAY

We had a very misty start to the golfing day today with fog capturing the fairways for early morning play.

F-Troop Morning Tea - John Hollebon, Ron Beechey, Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Anne Burgess, Di Beechey, Sam Knox, Paul Scholberg, Terry Coyle, Steve Hogg, Peter Martin ( Rob Benson and Jan Martin)

A big difference here - paving yet to be done and seats to be put in place.

Taking down the starters box has opened up this whole area.

Our beautiful tibouchina in full bloom

A blaze of purple along the 2nd fairway

Easter holidays was no handicap for our volunteer F-Troopers.

We had eleven volunteers today which was great as we had a large project to complete.

On hand were Duncan Dyer, Rob Benson, Steve Hogg, Geoff Bridge, Terry Coyle, Peter Martin, John Hollebon, Sam Knox, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess and Jan Martin.

Being a public holiday with a lot of players on the course the boys concentrated on the first tee area where the starters box was to be demolished. The glass windows were removed and the rest of the structure pulled apart and removed, the paths, gardens and area behind the starters box was tidied up. A job well done by the troopers.

John Hollebon focused on the hedges at the clubhouse tidying up that area.

Di Beechey and Anne Burgess cleaned up around the clubhouse, tidied up gardens and paths at the first and 10th tees and raked up the hedge clippings.

I tidied up the Wedding Gazebo, watered, sprayed and fertilised the Mandevillias, swept out the gazebo and removed the leaves, fertilised the Mandevillias at the 10th tee, tidied the garden there, cleaned up at the 14th bush toilets, the 6th tranquility garden and fertilised the Mandevillias, tidied up the ladies 3rd tee, tidied up the 2nd green garden, trimmed off the damaged branches and leaves on the Tibbouchina garden near the clubhouse.

We enjoyed morning tea of Easter Buns (as you do at Easter)

The course was very wet from yesterday's rain so we had no need to do any watering.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Golf - Sunday 27th March 2016 - EASTER SUNDAY

Tibouchinas in full flower looking impressive on the 2nd Fairway

Looking across the 18th during the deluge - the course not looking impressive

With Carolyn and Ray Buttsworth at the 1st Tee

What a day we had - with the excitement of playing with brand new clubs and admiring the tibouchinas
Having an enjoyable day until we got to the 12th fairway when the skies opened and washed out the rest of our play.  We did have some laughs while the play was good. The boys were ahead for the Keno Ticket but unfortunately we had to finish before Carolyn and I could turn that score around.
Amazingly some people did play on through the rain with the greens covered in water. Far too keen for me.

The Golf Event of the day was a Single Stableford for Men and Women.

We had 53 starters with 1 visitor from Northbridge.

RESULTS:

MEN'S SINGLES RESULTS:

WINNER: Justin Moore - 42 points

RUNNER UP: Stephen Allen - 36 points

WOMEN'S SINGLES RESULTS:

WINNER: Gail Williams - 36 points

NEAREST THE PINS:

LADIES 8TH: Lorraine Bignall

BALLS WENT TO:

MEN: 31 points on a countback

LADIES: 28 points on a countback

DSR MEN: 71

DSR LADIES: 75

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY: Gail Williams had a 3 pointer on the 17th playing on a water covered green; my highlight of course was playing with my new diamond encrusted clubs which I loved especially the hybrid 6 and the 9 iron. I had a 3 pointer on the 1st playing with clubs that had never hit a golf ball before so that impressed me. I think most people who played in the afternoon had a highlight when they finally got home and got out of their wet gear.

Veterans news from Marianne Lanham

Hi Ladies,

I am writing to remind you that the second round of the Gosford Lady Veteran’s “BEST 5 STABLEFORD ROUNDS” will be played on Tuesday  29th March in conjunction with the competition of the day.

There are plenty of spots available  so please enter your names and come and enjoy yet another day of golf!

The event at Kooindah Waters  went ahead as planned yesterday, 30 ladies played in the event of the day being a single stableford with a 2Ball in conjunction.

Many thanks to Mark Churcher and his staff for making us  welcome,  to my  surprise Mark  gave the winners of the 2Ball just from our group a voucher each to play yet another round at Koondah Waters with a friend and a cart. Well done to the winners of the Gosford 2Ball  Merran Adams and Sheena Asken 45points, and I believe Merran also won the women’s single stableford event of the day with an amazing 36points. Kay Adams will be collecting any Gosford winnings for us…. thank you Kay.

I am not sure who to thank for the beautiful weather, everybody thoroughly enjoyed the day and the challenges of the Kooindah Waters golf course. Some managed over 30 points, some over 20 and some ( me being one ) didn’t crack the 20 points , oh well that’s golf!!

Have a safe and Happy Easter and I look forward to seeing you next Tuesday.

Report on Nelson's Bay Week of Golf

Report on the Nelson Bay Tour

24 golfers from the Central Coast played on the beautiful courses of Port Stephens.
Day one was a 2 men Ambrose at Horizons Golf Course with the winners: Gary (John West) Sammons and Brad (250) Page.
The highlight of the day was a hole in one by Garry (Judge Judy) Buggy.
Here is the Description:  “I wiggled my backside and hit a low, below the wind, 7 iron which landed just before the green and rolled into the hole”
Here is the Truth: I miss hit my 7 iron and it never went higher than a foot above the ground it missed the water, I don’t know how, and then dribbled into the hole.
Here is what Matters: IT WAS A HOLE IN ONE

Day two at Newcastle Golf Course saw Mark (MSM the Skipper) Stimpson victorious with 40 points.

Day three at Horizons Warren “The Visitor” Guest came out on top with a magnificent 39 points.

Day four should have been at Nelson Bay Golf Club but controversy saw it relocated to Horizons and the victor there with a super 39 was Ted “The Groomer” Roberts.

The Last day was held at Pacific Dunes Golf Club and the winner was Duncan (Chainsaw) Dyer with 37 points.

The overall winner for the week was Ted “The Groomer” Roberts with Mark (MSM the Skipper) Stimpson in second and Duncan (Chainsaw) Dyer in third. The Bradman was won by Garry (Judge Judy) Buggy.

My thanks to Paul Scholberg for this report.  As per usual - it looks like a great week was had by all.

Golf - Tuesday 15th March 2016 - Irish Day

I understand that the Ladies Competition was washed out today which is a shame as it was to be our popular Irish Day with everyone dressed up in anything Irish.

The ladies are going to try again on Thursday so we hope the weather improves by then.

I have been watching the radar and forecast showing lots of rain which is great for the gardens as we have not had very much natural rain for the last month or so.

The weather at Surfers Paradise has been good. A showery day on Sunday but apart from that it has been comfortable.

F-Troop - Monday 14th March 2016

Hello from Isle of Capri - beautiful one day, perfect the next!

I understand that F-Troop did manage to get a working team.

On hand we had 7 volunteers which was good as so many of us are away on holidays.

Our volunteers were Don Nicholls, Terry Coyle, Kevin O'Brien, Rob Benson, Garry Trigg, Carolyn Buttsworth and Di Beechey.

Rob and Garry did rub bush pick up around the course and cleaned the drain at the club.

Terry raked up the 17th and 18th tee areas and pathways.

Kevin got in the dam and cleaned out weed on the 13th.

Don replaced the broken concrete outside the Pro Shop.

Carolyn Buttsworth cleaned up at the 14th Bush Toilets.

Di Beechey cleaned up the car parks, under the clubhouse and then watered the top gardens, wedding garden and pots before attending the ladies committee meeting and then organised morning tea for the F-Troopers.

Thank you for morning tea supplies Barto which I am sure was enjoyed by all.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: Chris Dekker scored 42 on the back nine and came in a worthy winner; Norma Cubis had a lovely birdie gobbler at the 14th; my highlight was only having one 3 putt and having my only escape from all the water holes happen at the 13th by the ball hitting the red Hazzard post and rebounding back into the fairway. I also found my ball on the 3rd after parking my cart over the top of it.  Norma suggested I look there when the ball could not be found. Golf is so much fun!!!!

8     Chris Palmer                                           Won 4/3
Notes about the match:
An eventful day to say the least. The course was set up well, many visitors commented how good the greens were and also of the overall condition of the course which is a tribute to our Superintendent and his team.
On a very hot and sticky day both teams battled out a 4 all draw, with our best chance of a win evaporating when undefeated Bert Brink lost on the 18th. A return to form for John Allen was noted, as was the first win for Chris Palmer. Mr Reliable, Ted Roberts also was successful in a tight finish. The team manager also had a battle on his hands but took the lead after a sandy at the 14th for Par and was never headed after that.
I would like to thank those members of the team who helped out with the BBQ and spotting on the third. Well done guys. A big thank you to Graham Chee for his help on the day.  My thanks must go to all the Team for their dedication and commitment throughout the series. I hope to see you all next year.
On reflection perhaps our biggest disappointment was the match against Everglades at Wyong where we went down 4.5 to 3.5. Everglades then went on to be undefeated and win the Division. Together with runners up Toukley they will enter into the Knockout phase in mid April against the Winners and Runners up of all the other Divisions.
The Super Senior website is available for all to visit at www.superseniorpennant.com where the draw for the Finals will be posted after 11th April. The competition is open to male golfers aged 65 and over with entries closing on 31st October 2016 for the 2017 Pennant. The entry form will be in the Pro Shop.
Summary: This completes the Divisional Rounds. Gosford #2 has finished tied with Shelly Beach for 4th place.

A bit more of the 17th dogleg garden tidied

Path maintenance at the front of the Pro Shop done by F-Trooper Don Nicholls

Magnificent flowers on our little gem magnolia (these flowers will grow as big as dinner plates when the tree matures.

We only had a small crew of nine volunteers today but we did achieve a lot.

On hand were Duncan Dyer, Rob Benson, Kevin O'Brien, Don Nicholls, Sam Knox, Peter Martin, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess and Jan Martin.

The tree gang of Duncan Dyer and Kevin O'Brien worked on undercutting the trees around the course and removed two broken branches at the back of the first fairway.

Don Nicholls repaired the path outside the Pro Shop.

Rob Benson did rubbish pick up around the course.

Sam Knox worked on preparing our firewood supplies.

Peter Martin mowed the grass at the front street and cleaned up at the back of the clubhouse.

Di Beechey and Anne Burgess cleaned up the BBQ Garden and worked in the wedding garden area.

I worked at the 14th bush toilets, trimmed the hedge at the 14th roundabout garden, watered the pots at the 6th tranquility garden, the elk horns on the 5th, the bike garden, the garden at the ladies 9th tee, the new trees at the 17th dogleg , sprayed the new hedge at the 4th and had another nibble at weeding the 17th dogleg garden.

We enjoyed our morning tea of hot cross buns, cakes and slices - Thank you Barto!

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
