This is my contribution to Volunteers Week.

 We seem to have a lot of Everybody, somebody, anybody and nobody’s. Let us take pride in our club and contribute in some small way. It does not matter how small or in which direction - what ever fits in your lifestyle. 

We do have some great volunteers - let us make it more so our club can move forward.

Golf - Tuesday 23rd May 2023

 

It took me two hours to mulch half of the garden at the 3rd/5th. Then my two white knights in shining armour - not arriving on white horses - but in the wood delivery Ute. Peter and Kevie arrived and finished the rest of the mulching in 15 minutes. The hydrangeas will be trimmed back after the frosty season. The garden is much improved. (Before and After photos)

We had a very chilly start to our morning but thankfully it warmed up to a very nice sunny morning.

We had eleven volunteers this morning including a new member Phillip Chadwick who we welcomed and Trevor Harrison who has returned from holidays.

On hand were Sam Knox, Duncan Dyer, Kevin O’Brien, Trevor Harrison, Dave Scifleet, Phillip Chadwick, Rob Benson,  Don Nicholls, Peter Martin, Ron Gowing, Jan Martin.

Projects worked on today were Loose Timber and Rubbish pick up around the course, tree maintenance, firewood delivery, firewood preparation, Clean up of paths under the clubhouse, 1st and 10th tees, practice greens and practice nets, delivery of mulch to the 5th and 6th gardens, weeding of the garden at the 2nd green ready for mulching, pick up of weeds and shrub cuttings from the 5th tee, garden rubbish to the dump.

Morning tea in the warm sunshine with welcoming fresh sandwiches was very enjoyable.

The Late Sandy Laybutt

 It was unbelievable to hear the news today that Sandy has lost her battle - passing away at 4.30 pm today.

We are all devastated at losing Sandy and devastated for Peter and their family.

Sandy is a long time Gosford Lady Golfer and having just retired - she was taken far too soon.

Rest in peace Sandy - you will be sadly missed.

Deepest condolences to Peter and family.

Funeral arrangements will be posted when information comes to hand.

Another chilly morning but no rain which allowed us to get on with our projects.

Projects worked on today was Loose Timber and Rubbish pick up around the course, Undercutting of trees, tidy up of paths underneath the clubhouse, Paths to the 1st and 10th tees, paths to the practice nets, mulch added to the 6th Native garden and the 6th tranquility garden, weeding of the tranquility garden paths, tidy up of the steps leading to the 3rd Ladies tee.

We appreciated our morning tea of fresh sandwiches after a hard mornings work.

We had a great day for our Open Day with a chilly wind keeping the temperature down - but no rain.

The windy and chilly weather has arrived as predicted. It was very cold early this morning and we had eight brave volunteers turn up to brave the conditions.

On hand we had Sam Knox, Duncan Dyer, Kevin O’Brien, Rob Benson, Don Nicholls, Peter Martin, John Hollebon and Jan Martin.

Projects worked on today were Loose Timber and Rubbish pick around the course, tree maintenance, delivery of a trailer load of mulch to the 6th, hedge maintenance, firewood delivery, clean up underneath the clubhouse, flowers out to the bush toilets and 6th tranquility garden, raking the paths around the bush toilets, weeding the 6th tranquility garden and a start made on adding mulch to the 6th gardens

Golf - Sunday 7th May 2023

 A drop in temperature was felt today on the golf course - 15 degrees and several rain showers that made it feel even colder. 

Our playing partners today were Steve and Geraldine Turner and we braved it through a few holes in showers, then the sun broke out and it was pleasant for another six holes and then the showers returned and the temperature dropped even further. We decided to call it a day after the 9th hole and the sound of thunder. The weather did eventually clear again so some players could finish their rounds.

The Golf Event of the day was a Medley Single Stableford.

We had a great day at Hawks Nest Golf Club today and enjoyed a beautiful weather day once again.

Our winners today were:

Wally and Rhonda Robertson - 3rd place in the 2 Ball Ambrose.

Peter and Jan Martin - a ball for 9th place

Steve and Annette Cross - a ball for 10th place.

Over the week Gosford players have done very well with the prizes and have had a great social week. Our playing partners today were David Coxall (Terrigal) and Dean Coxall (Penrith) who won 2nd place and were great company.
