Super Seniors Pennants Results - Monday 22nd February 2016

Gosford Golf Club Match Play Pennant Results 2016
Pennant Team: Super Senior Gosford #2       Manager:  Martin Gallagher
Match Date: 22nd February Golf Course: Toukley
Opponent: Toukley Result: Toukley 6.5 def. Gosford # 2   1.5
Individual Results:
Name Result
1  Stephen Mc.Guckin                                   Lost 5/4
2  Martin Gallagher                                        Lost 4/3
3  Steve Fairnham                                           Lost 8/6
4  John Allen                                                     Lost 1 down
5  Lindsay Morgan                                           Square
6  Geoff Watson                                               Lost 4/3
7  Len Schafer                                                    Lost 6/5
8  Michael Crehan                                             WON 2/1
Notes about the match: On a very sticky, hot day we took on a very strong Toukley team. The sum total of their 1,2 and 3 players handicaps was 6. However the team gave it all and unfortunately was just not good enough on the day. The Toukley course was in good condition, play the ball as it lies, greens were good, fairways were excellent.
There were some highlights on the day—John Allen was terribly unlucky to lose 1 down, putting his second shot on 18 in the right hand bunker and proving to be his demise. What can I say about Michael Crehan- early in the season he was not keen to play only in an emergency and in a team of 14 players 6 were unavailable on this day. Not only did he play but as the result above shows he was our sole winner on the day on a handicap of 17. Congratulations Michael.
Date of next match: Monday 7th March Opponent: Wyong #2

Gosford Golf Club Match Play Pennant Results 2016
Pennant Team: Super Seniors Team 1 Manager: Paul Edwards
Match Date: Mon 22/02/2016 Golf Course: Morriset
Opponent: TORONTO
Result: Gosford defeated Toronto 6 ½ matches to 1 ½
Individual Results:
Name Result
1. Col Matterson Won 2 and 1
2. David Hemming Lost 1 down
3. Mark Stimpson Won 2 and 1
4. Clyde Cruikshank Won 6 and 4
5. Terry Bowditch Squared
6. Paul Edwards Won 5 and 3
7. Keith Bourne Won 2 up
8. David Flanigan Won 5 and 4

Notes about the match:
Morisset Course was in good condition, the fairways were lush, the greens were slow and the humidity was high.
At half way the match was poised to go either way but there were some remarkable recoveries on the back 9 lead by Keith Bourne, Terry Bowditch, Mark Stimpson and Col Matterson.
Every member of the team worked hard right to the end, never giving in even when the odds were against them. For example Terry Bowditch was 3 down with three to play and won the last 3 holes to square the game on the 18th with a miraculous recovery from what we thought was an unplayable position.
Great team spirit was evident throughout the day and many thanks to John our roving reporter.

F-Troop - Monday 22nd February 2016

There are no photos from F-Troop today as I was busy playing golf in the CCWGA Open Day.

We had 10 volunteers today which was a big help towards our biggest project replacing the fence wire along Racecourse Road.

On hand were Duncan Dyer, Peter Martin, Steve Hogg, Ron Beechey, Anne Burgess, Kevin O'Brien, Sam Knox, Trevor Harrison, John Hollebon, Terry Coyle

An important job for F-Troopers today was the control of traffic in the car park to ensure that all of our 144 lady golfers could find a car park in the parking areas. The F-Troopers were on the job just after six o'clock and monitored until all the lady golfers had arrived.

After that the F-Troopers concentrated on the fence replacement work which required about eight workers to be on hand to move the project smoothly.

The course was very busy with 144 players on shotgun start so our use of the course was very limited.

John Hollebon worked on hedge trimming at the 1st and 10th.

Sam Knox was busy taking care of wood splitting for this winter's firewood supply.

Di Beechey was early at the course to ensure that morning tea was set up for the ladies and everything else was in order before playing in the CCWGA Open Day.

Anne Burgess was on duty early to monitor the car park and tidy up the car park, BBQ area and underneath the clubhouse.

I was there early to ensure that the 14th Bush Toilet area was clean and tidy before playing in the CCWGA Open Day.

Morning Tea was provided by Barto and was much appreciated. Thank you Barto!

Next week the fence project will continue and we will be able to get back to rubbish pick up.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Look very carefully halfway between the path and the red marker and you will see a red bellied black snake heading for the drain at the 5th tee

In this long grass - close to the red marker is the red bellied black snake - beware of walking in these areas as the snake was barely visible and could easily have been stepped on.

The Golf Event of the day was the CCWGA Opening Day which was well supported by the local clubs.
It was a very hot day and after yesterday's heavy rainfall it was like being in a sauna.

There were 144 starters which meant the golf was very slow in places especially on the par 3's where we were banked up with 3 groups at times.

My playing partners were Jan Walker, Christine Drakeford and Di Beechey and we played well enough to win a ball which was a good highlight for us. The Red Bellied Black Snake on the 5th caused a stir of excitement.

Our Gosford girls did well getting several mentions in the results.

Overall the day was very successful and well run by the District Committee.
