Golf - Friday 25th September 2015

The wet weather set in resulting in no golf competition today.

Tomorrow we are hoping for much better weather as we have a full field. Keep our fingers crossed that there is no more bad weather.

However, the club was open tonight for our Mexican Buffet Dinner, raffles and badge draw.

We won a meat tray, a bistro voucher and a $2 lottery ticket, the $50 end of month draw was won by Ray Buttsworth, and the Members Draw was not won. The badge draw will be $2,400 next week - "pick me, pick me" - I will be there. The Beechey table vs the Martin table was square 6 wins each in the raffle draws.

Golf - Tuesday 22nd September 2015

We had a lovely day for golf today - nice and sunny.  This brings to mind that the summer months are coming on, bringing extra risk from the sun.  Have you all had your skin check ups done recently by specialists who can identify trouble spots? If not, now would be a good time before you are out in the blistering sun, causing even more damage without realising you have already got a trouble spot that should be attended to.  Cover up with sun protection and enjoy your golf.

We had a lovely day at Everglades in perfect weather to play in the District 2BBB vs Par.
Our playing partners were Pat Myles and Robyn Taylor from Everglades who made us very welcome and were a good help to guide us through the course which can be a bit confusing with the cross over fairways.

There were sixteen teams competing today and Everglades came in 1st and 5th.  Gosford came in 4th and 10th represented by Kay Frewin, Janice Martin, Kay Adams and Sandra Coyle.

F-Troop -Monday 21st September 2015

Today on hand we had Duncan Dyer, Trevor Harrison, Don Nicholls, Geoff Bridge, Rob Benson, Kevin O'Brien, John Hollebon, D Beechey and Anne Burgess. I was not able to be there for photos as I was playing golf at Everglades.

The troopers had a busy morning working around the social players playing in the Kidney Foundation Charity Day.

The tree gang cleaned up along the 6th creek, the area between the 14th and the 17th green and the 11th tee.

Rob Benson also did some pickup and John Hollebon worked his way around the course.

Di and Anne did garden maintenance where required.

Morning tea was appreciated and once again donated by "Barto". Thanks Barto!

It was a good weather day and I hope the Carity Day went well.

Golf - Friday 18th September 2015

(Click on the image to enlarge it to viewing size)

What a better way to spend a Friday afternoon!
Nine hole of golf in the late afternoon (great for early workers) when the course is at its most beautiful followed by a buffet dinner and a chance to win at the meat raffles and not to mention a chance to win the weekly Members Draw.

My thanks to Lyn Bates who rescued our vandalised orchid flower at the 14th after being stripped from the mother plant and it is now on display at the bar so the Members can enjoy the last of the flower display. It is hard to understand the mentality of people that do this vandalising as the flowers can be enjoyed for months on the bush.  I would like to think that none of our members would be responsible for this senseless act.

A word of WARNING with the warmer months approaching. I understand that there was a red bellied black snake spotted today crossing the 15th fairway and swam through the dam to the island.  My thanks to David Small for this information. We should be mindful that the snakes will be out and about, be aware especially in the rough areas and near the dams. Make plenty of noise if you are entering hazard areas so the snakes have time to get away.

We had a wonderful day for our Ladies Invitation day with the weather clear and sunny with some wind to keep the temperature down. We do not want to complain about the hot weather after such a cold and wet winter.

My playing partners today were Yvonne Cumming, Helen Darke and Elly Van Den Berg.  We had a lot of laughs along the way with some good highlights including a great gobbler shot on the 15th from Yvonne for 4/4 and a lovely long putt from Elly for 4/4 at the 3rd.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: I am sorry I did not make it right around the room today to pick up all the highlights and I am sure there were many: Marianne Lanham's team won the scratch and their highlights were three 5/3's at the18th, 2 birdies 4/4, 4/3 and 6/2 at the 11th; Rosalie Dyer's team had 11points at the 10th; Ann Baker drove to the green on every par 3; Lorraine Bignall had a gobbler 5/3 at the 18th: Alison Guthrie and Helen Stuart both threw their free shot into the bunker; Dawn Tromp took her free throw and sent it backwards into OOB; Elly Van Den Berg kicked her free shot right into a tree and her free throw went straight up in the air and rolled over a hill to a worse place but she recovered well with a great shot down the fairway; Jan Johnson from Everglades almost got a hole in one at the 8th winning nearest the pin and scoring 2/5; Georgina Lamb had 4/4 at the 15th; Sheila Williams had some good 4 pointers and enjoyed good company; Carolyn Buttsworth had 2/5 at the 8th;,Rosie Judd and Helen Smith scored some good points and their team had 10 points at the 10th; Yvonne Cumming had a gobbler 4/4 at the 15th; Elly Van Den Berg sank a beautiful long putt at the 3rd for 4/4; my highlight was enjoying good company and getting a 4 pointer at the 10th.
I was amused at all the free shot stories today where a lot of us finished worse off - golf is not easy when the clubs are taken away!!!! (Who said it was easy anyway).
