F- Troop - Monday 29th November 2021

 

F- Troop Morning Tea - Don Nicholls, Ron Gowing, Peter Martin, Rob Benson, Trevor Harrison, Duncan Dyer, Nigel Asken, Sam Knox, Kevin O’Brien, (Di Beechey and Jan Martin)

A new agave garden being created at Racecourse Road fence near the Men’s 3rd tee - all of these plants were transplanted from around the big tree in front of the clubhouse that was just cut down.

We had another busy day today at F-Troop with 11 volunteers turning up to help with our projects. 

The day was rain free so we could get out on the course which was very busy with the BW Vets competition day.

On hand we had Duncan Dyer, Sam Knox, Trevor Harrison, Kevin O’Brien, Rob Benson, DonNicholls, Peter Martin, Nigel Asken, Ron Gowing, Di Beechey and Jan Martin.

Projects worked on today were Rubbish and loose timber pick up around the course, firewood preparation and tree maintenance, weeding and tidying the area behind the putting green including mulching, cleaning of paths from the clubhouse to the 1st and 10th tees, wedding garden area and practice nets, tidy up of the wood preparation area and fertilising the gardens there, clearing weeds and rubbish from the Racecourse Road fence area at the Men’s 3rd tee and planting in Agave plants that were removed from the base of the large tree that was taken down at the clubhouse.

We had a change in morning tea practice this morning with the club supplying us with fresh sandwiches and muffins.  This was very much appreciated after a hard morning’s work.

Tomorrow is Graham Chee’s last day as Captain. We thank Graham for his non stop support of F-Troop and our projects and wish him well in his future stress free golf years. Graham made a great contribution to the club in the years he has been Captain and on the Board and has put in countless hours in his endeavour to make Gosford a great Golf Club. Thank you Graham from all of the F-Troopers.

I understand that the Foursomes Championship and the Naggers Cup have been postponed. The Foursomes Championship has been postponed until Saturday 11th December 2021 and the Naggers Cup until Sunday 12th December 2021 - all existing bookings will be cloned onto the new dates.

We had 9 die-hard volunteers this morning willing to work through light showers.

Projects worked on today were cutting down and cutting up a large fallen branch from a tree in the lower car park, rubbish and loose timber pick up around the course, hedge maintenance, preparation of firewood,  tidy up of F-Troop sheds, cleaning of the bush toilets, tidy up of the 6th tranquility garden, moving and rehoming the agave plants on the 2nd green garden, tidy up of greenspace gardens at the 14th.

Morning tea was appreciated after a hard mornings work.

Once again we were lucky enough to have a good weather day at Hawks Nest for our 3rd day of golf.

Our playing partners were Graeme Luke and Kristine Heggie from Nelson Bay and they were great company. Peter enjoyed a good game (should have been 40 points and a winner) and my score improved by 4 points. We did not have our traditional group photos of winners because we were distracted with Gosford Golf Club Annual General Zoom meeting which we held in the Board Room at Hawks Nest Golf Club (Huge thanks to Hawks Nest Golf Club for allowing us to use their Board Room facilities). However it was mentioned Lyn Bates won 2nd Place, Steve Cross won a ball. Well done Gosford!!

We had a great day for golf today - free of rain and not too hot. My playing partners were Rosalie Dyer, Suzanne Waugh and Kay Walker who were great company. Our best highlight was Rosie’s birdie gobbler chip into the 16th for a nice 4 pointer, my highlight was getting 38 points, getting out of bunkers in one and finishing with the same ball I started with.

Thriving during the period of neglect

We had a very busy day on the course today with many projects to be done. Fortunately we had 14 volunteers this morning which was a huge help. The course was full of Vets players so we had to work our way through our projects without disturbing their golf.

On hand we had Duncan Dyer, Trevor Harrison, Sam Knox, Kevin O’Brien, Rob Benson, Chris Foster, Don Nicholls, Peter Martin, Les Wielinga, Nigel Askin, John Hollebon, Terry Coyle, Di Beechey, Jan Martin.

Projects worked on today were loose timber and rubbish pick up around the course, firewood preparation, hedge maintenance, garden maintenance at the 10th tee and Wedding garden, 14th greenspace garden, watering of gardens, tidy up of the 6th tranquility garden, tidy up of the steps on the Ladies 3rd tee, cleaning of the bush toilets, tidy up of agave plants on the 14th greenspace gardens, planting in of agave plants at the 2nd green garden. 

Morning tea was very welcome after a hard morning’s work.
