Golf - Saturday 1st March 2014

Some of the earlier players finished today before the rain set in.  We have had a fair bit of rain and the competition was suspended due to water over the greens, and then eventually cancelled due to the continued rain.

It would have been good if we could have just squeezed our golf in before the rain came back as the course has really had enough now and the dams are full.

Our two garden weddings were in serious doubt early in the day.  I believe the first wedding was set up in the Wedding Garden as the rain had held off for a little while - but the scheduled 4 o'clock wedding may have been on the balcony.

We had 200 golfers due to play golf today and a combined 200 wedding guests at the weddings which would be a good turnover for the club.

The forecast for tomorrow is more showers clearing in the afternoon.  Some sunshine would be nice.
Hopefully we will be playing golf as our course drainage is excellant.

Golf - Friday 28th February 2014

The Golf Event of the day was no competition due to the wet weather settling in as the day went on.

It is all good for our course with our dams collecting the excess water well and the course is greening up which is great for the end of summer leading us into a good position if drier months are ahead.

More rain is forecast for tomorrow but hopefully some golf will happen. The course will be open as things stand at the moment.  Check with the Pro Shop re the state of the course tomorrow if there is more rain overnight.

We have two weddings happening at the same time tomorrow afternoon which will be accommodated  in the upstairs space. The weddings may need to be on the balcony if it is too wet in the Wedding Garden.

Members will be accommodated in the Fairways lounge downstairs.

F-Troop - Monday 24th February 2014

We had a good day for F-Troop today - not too hot earlier.

We had 12 volunteers to share the load which was good because we had some heavy projects underway.
On hand were Duncan Dyer, Trevor Harrison, Don Nicholls, Rob Benson, Garry Trigg, Warren Gray, Peter Martin, Nigel Asken, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess, Carolyn Buttsworth, Jan Martin.

The boys took on the daunting task of clearing out the gutter along the side of the school.  This gutter gets full of rubbish and weeds which is a problem in time of heavy rain.  The area looks much better now.

Nigel Asken worked on clearing weed and mud from around the pipes of the dam between the second and third fairways which was a big task.

Anne Burgess cleaned up around the BBQ area and her camellias.

Di Beechey and Carolyn Buttsworth cleaned up under the clubhouse and car parks, gave the bike garden some TLC, helped me to plant in some new lavenders at the 16th; cleaned up the garden on the path from the 14th to the 15th.

I worked on planting in the lavenders at the 4th and 16th, tidied up at the Ladies 3rd tee; cleaned up at the bush toilets; weeded the garden at the 2nd tee and cleared the path of weeds

Morning tea of fruit pastries was appreciated by all.  Thank you Chef John!

The rain this week was wonderful.  Our dams are full and the gardens are very happy.  The weeds are loving it too - so much to do - so little time!

YES! WE CAN MAKE A FIFFERENCE!

Golf - Sunday 23rd February 2014

We had a very busy day at Gosford Golf Club today - Social Clubs playing Golf pre competition, followed by the District A Grade Pennants, the normal Sunday Competition and further social players.  In addition to all of that we had a 9 o'clock wedding in the Wedding Garden followed by a Wedding Breakfast in the Magnolia Room.  Busy, busy, busy and isn't that great!

The Wedding menu was interesting - sausages, scrambled eggs, hash browns etc - very novel and literally a Wedding Breakfast.

The course was in great condition following the huge rainfall of last Wednesday - the deluge drained beautifully from the course and into the dams.

Our playing partners today were my brother Phil Smith from Moree and his lovely wife Lorraine.  Phil & Lorraine were not very impressed with all our trees and bunkers  (there are no bunkers on the Moree Golf Course).  We did have a great day on the village green with some good highlights.  Peter was the champion of the day scoring 39 points and the boys beat the girls for the Keno ticket.(Hmmmm!)

The Golf Event of the day was a Single Stableford + 2 Ball Team Mixed Men and Ladies.

We had 64 starters with 3 visitors from Moree and The Springs.

Another highlight this week for those of you who would have watched the South Sydney/Saints Rugby League Match - John & Julie Hazzard's grandson Alex Johnston played for the winning side.  Alex also scored the first try in the Holden Cup. Congratulations John & Julie - You have a winner there!

RESULTS OF THE A GRADE CCGA played at Gosford today:

We followed the last of the Pennants Teams today and saw some great golf shots from our boys.

Golf - Sunday 16th February 2014

The promised rain arrived - not overnight as we would have hoped but we needed rain so badly that we had to sacrifice a game of golf today to benefit from it.

We have had steady rain, heavy at times, and hopefully enough to increase the levels of our dams.

I did see some optimistic golfers on the course this morning but I understand that the daily competition was cancelled.

The rain is easing now so we should have business as usual next week on a much greener course.

The blog may be delayed the next couple of days as I am not sure if I will have internet access on our Houseboat.
