Golf - Wednesday 30th November 2011

We had another great weather golf day & the course is looking good.  The recent heavy rain had no impact on the fairways and they dried out very quickly, the greens are in good condition and the bunkers are recovering well after their drenching.  The wet weather course recovery has been amazing and it is hard to compare with the years that the course would be closed for days on end with no carts allowed.

The Golf Event of the day was a Men's Single Stableford + 2 Ball Team.

We had 197 starters with 13 visitors from Cooma, Everglades, Kareela, Kooindah Waters, Mangrove Mountain, PGA, Tamworth, Terrigal, Toukley & Wyong.

Golf - Tuesday 29th November 2011 - Christmas Closing Day

It was great to have such a good weather day to play in our Christmas Closing Day.  This is a fun day where we can relax & enjoy a very social day of golf and join in the festive spirit of the season.  There were a lot of Christmas Theme golfers out playing today which was good to see.

In a sometimes desperate attempt to lighten up the day we answered the challenge this year with some Christmas Tree outfits to outdo the previous years Christmas Fairies.  I think we met the challenge with the aid of Lorraine Bignall's sewing skills & we thank Lorraine for her creative talent & hours of work that she put into these outfits.

The Golf Event of the day was a Team Stableford - Split Sixes - Nett and Scratch. It was the Ladies Closing Day - Christmas Day.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me:  The Christmas Trees (of course); Anne Forrester had a gobbler 2/4 on the 5th; Lorraine Bignall had a 30 metre putt into the hole at the 6th; Yvonne Wilson had five 3 pointers; Shirley Daly had a birdie on the 14th and won nearest the pin; Lyn Cruickshanks had a 4 pointer on the 7th; Norma Cubis birdied the 11th.  I did not get a chance to get right around the room today to gather all of the highlights - and I am sure there were many - so my apologies to anyone who did not get the chance to have a brag about their highlight.

My thanks to Debbie Grinham for her photo of the Christmas Trees Grand Entrance.

F-Troop - Monday 28th November 2011

It was great to have so many volunteers turn up this morning as we had a lot of chores to be done.

We had Sam Knox, Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Rob Benson, Des Wilson, Peter Martin, Garry Trigg, Martin Gallagher, Warren Gray, John Coddington, Richard Casey, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess, Georgina Lamb & Jan Martin.

The tree gang of Sam Knox, Duncan Dyer, Des Wilson & John Coddington took care of the cutting up and removing of the last of the timber at the 18th.  That was a huge job and handled well by the F-Troopers.

Peter Martin, Warren Gray, Martin Gallagher, Garry Trigg, Richard Casey & Rob Benson teamed well to pick up & spread multiple loads of mulch on gardens at the 8th, 17th and the 1st.

Garry Trigg got some good points up by trimming the lilly pilly at the 10th tee with some good help from Warren Gray & Peter Martin.

Martin Gallagher planted a new flax plant out on the 6th garden & then helped Di Beechey to plant a new hedge leading down to the 1st tee. Our thanks to Michael of Savannah Lawns & Gardens for the donation of the hedge plants.

Di Beechey & Anne Burgess cleaned up the car park & BBQ garden area before helping Georgina and myself to weed the garden & rake the 8th tee, weed the garden & rake up around the 1st and 10th tees, planted out some new daisy plants at the 15th; weeded the rock orchids at the 10th & tidied the garden at the back of the 10th tee.  Georgina helped me to trim the daisies at the 17th & trim the camellia trees.

At morning tea we celebrated John Coddington's birthday and Geoff Bridge who is turning 80 tomorrow.
Morning tea was some fresh mini muffins which was appreciated after a hard mornings work by all.  Thanks Chef John!  We transformed one of the muffins into an 80th birthday cake for Geoff who had no trouble blowing out the candle.  Geoff is one of our most regular workers on F-Troop & does not let age weary him one bit - in fact there are some days when he outworks all of us.  We can only hope that we can be that fit and well when we reach that magic age.

It was jobs well done all around today by the troopers.

At 6.00pm tonight we had a working bee to treat some of the paspalum grasses that are infesting the course.
My thanks to Mark Stimpson, Sam Knox & Martin Gallagher who contributed an hour of their time to poison the paspalum grass growing on the 1st, 8th, 12th and part of the 3rd and 9th fairways.  Many hands make light work & we got through the fairways easily.  We are planning to have another working bee next Monday evening at 6.00pm -( weather permitting) and we need five members to assist.  Please let me know if you can spare an hour to help.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Golf - Sunday 27th November 2011 - 69th Naggers Cup

As predicted we had blue sky and sunshine for the 69th Naggers Cup and the course was in remarkable condition considering the amount of rain that has fallen in the last few days.  The bunkers were out of play (which did not upset a lot of people), the greens were in great condition and the fairways were not nearly as wet as I would have imagined them to be.  Carts were allowed and it was hard to believe that we were on the same course as, say 10 years ago, that would have been closed for a week in this type of weather.
Full credit to our greens staff who are doing a fantastic job with the drainage systems and grassing of the course.

Our playing partners today were Warren Gray and Mary Bromwich and we had a great time as naggees and naggers out of the village green.  We did have some highlights and a lot of nagging which was well deserved ( I am sure Mary would agree).

The Golf Event of the day was the 69TH NAGGERS CUP 2011, American Foursomes for mixed pairs.
This is a much looked forward to event of the golf calender and was well supported by the Members.

Golf - Saturday 26th November 2011

Sadly the course was closed today after constant heavy rain overnight & in the morning.

However the rain is moving on and the promised sunshine for the weekend is coming now.

Hopefully the Nagger's Cup will go ahead tomorrow in sunshine & the course will dry out a bit before we get there.
