Golf - Tuesday 1st April 2008

This week the greens were cored & sanded which made it an interesting day for a par match. It certainly didn't worry some of our members who came in with exceptionally good scores. Because of the course maintenence program it was necessary for us to play the first nine holes twice and as a result there was no handicapping today.

We had 72 starters which was a good number considering the conditions.

RESULTS:

DIVISION 1:

Winner: Anne Geer +2

Runner up: Trish Goulding +1

DIVISION 2:

Winner: Elizabeth McNamara +6 C/B

Runner up: Julie Hazzard +6

3rd: Sharon Anderson +5

DIVISION 3: Doris Morris -1 C/B

Runner up: Susan Bourne -1

Nearest the pins: Division 1 : Fay Bailey - 8th

Division 2 : Pam Witt - 8th

Division 3: June Bowen - 8th

I did not play today and I was not there early enough to get any highlights however I am sure there would have been some.

The Pennants teams were announced today & the Pennants shirts presented to each of the players. Photo attached of the players that were present at the presentation: left to right - back row: Doon Jansen, Michele Martin, Bev Adams, Lorraine Linnert, Fay Bailey, Rosalie Dyer, Di Beechey, Di Thomlinson; front row: Robin Incoll, Ronda Jordon, Lesley Gregory, Julie Hazzard.

F-Troop at work - Monday 31st March 2008

F-Troop had a terrific day on Monday with a good turn up of troopers to spread the workload. There was a lot of tree trimming & rubbish removal done as well as mowing of the rough. Clyde Cruickshanks was ably supported by Martin Gallagher; Des Wilson; Duncan Dyer; Spencer Walklate; Garry Trigg; Doug Incoll; Bruce White; Ray Presdee; Peter Martin; George Foster; with Arthur Haviland & Mark Stimpson on the mower. In the garden department Wendy Stapleton did some good hours on the 2nd & 4th; Des & Yvonne Wilson worked on a new garden edge for the bush toilet area; and I did some work on the practice putting green garden & the 13th.

WELL DONE TROOPERS!

Images attached: New garden edge at the bush toilet garden; F-Troopers at work, Peter & Clyde resolving a problem (or trying to).

There will be no F-Troop work next Monday because there is a Vets event programmed.
F-Troop work will resume the following Monday.

F-Troop work on the 6th fairway

Congratulations once again to our F-Troop workers. What a huge difference they are making to our course maintenance. The rough has improved out of sight with regular mowing by our troopers & the course in general is looking much tidier.

There are a lot of projects in place on the fairways & in the gardens & in general it will be a long term effort to get our course to its top potential - but it can be done. If you feel you can contribute even a small amount of time & become an "F-Trooper" your efforts would be appreciated. Contact Clyde Cruickshanks (Captain) if you are interested in Course maintenance & myself (Jan Martin) for garden work.

I am also looking for people who would like to "Adopt-a-garden". This involved choosing just one garden & keep that garden weeded & watered for 12 months. I am currently looking for someone who would be prepared to look after the garden around the practice putting green. The garden is finished & just needs regular weeding & watering. (water is available at this garden- so no buckets required)

Just one example of the F-Troop work is tree trimming work that was done last week. Check out the "before" & "after" photos from work done by the F-Troop on the 6th.

Monday 24th March 2008

Some sad news just to hand. John Wharton a long standing member of the club passed away last night. John had been in illhealth for some time. The older members would remember John being in charge of Dad's Army.

Golf - Tuesday 4th March 2008

Another great day for golf - just enough breeze to keep it pleasant. I had very good company today with my playing partners Pam Witt & Priscilla Webster as we battled through the dreaded par match. We did have a few highlights along the way but I seemed to spend an awful lot of time in the 'rough' today making it very hard for myself to score.

The match today was a single par. We had 85 starters including two visitors.

RESULTS:

DIVISION 1:

Winner: Norma Cubis - minus 3 on a C/B
Runner up: Jackie Davidson - minus 3 on a C/B
3rd: Rosalie Dyer - minus 3 on a C/B

DIVISION 2:

Winner: Kath Small - plus 6
Runner up: Julie Craig - plus 2
3rd: Judith Ruitenberg - plus 1

DIVISION 3:

Winner: Carmen Fitzgerald - square
Runner up: Jan Walker - minus 1
3rd: June Bowen - minus 2 on a C/B

Nearest the pins:

Division 1 : 8th hole - Robyn Johnston; 14th hole - Jackie Davidson
Division 2 : 8th hole - Pam Bourne; 14th hole - Frances Maclean
Division 3 : No winners

CCR: Square

Balls went to minus 3 on a countback.

Highlights of the day as reported to me: Rosalie Dyer had a gobbler on the 10th to score a plus; Carmen Fitzgerald had a gobbler on the 15th; Jan Walker had two gobblers - one on the 1st to par the hole and one on the 5th; for me the highlight of my day was scoring a plus on the 2B 3 par (after putting it into the water last week).

They say all things come in threes...Pam Cowin today broke her buggy; had her water retriever fall apart & dropped her watch & broke it - all before the first hole. A good start to the day one could say.

Images attached : With my playing partners Pam Witt & Priscilla Webster; Norma Cubis - winner of Division 1 with President Ronda Jordon; Kath Small - winner of Division 2 with president Ronda Jordon; Carmen Fitzgerald - winner of Division 3 with President - Ronda Jordon.
