Sadly, one of our Club legends and Past President Doug Incoll passed away yesterday 29th August 2022.

Doug was a very popular member and good worker for the club and he will be sadly missed. 

I will post details of the funeral arrangements as soon as they come to hand.

F-Troop - Monday 29th August 2022

We were not able to get our vehicles out of the storage sheds today because Council Works in front of the sheds made it too dangerous to drive over the area. In our usual style we found ways to get projects done that did not require heavy vehicles.

We had 10 volunteers today and managed to get some good work done.

On hand we had Sam Knox, Duncan Dyer, Trevor Harrison, Kevin O’Brien, Paul Smith, Rob Benson, Don Nicholls, Peter Martin, John Hollebon, Jan Martin.

Projects worked on today were Loose Timber pick up around the course (walking), firewood preparation, clean up of the bush toilets at the 14th in preparation for painting, Hedge Maintenance, more weeding done on the 6th tee native garden.

We were happy to enjoy our morning tea in the sunshine this morning.

Sadly, we said goodbye to Nigel Asken who is retiring from F-Troop effective today. Nigel has put in many years of effort towards the F-Troop projects and we all appreciated his efforts in helping us improve Gosford Golf Course.

Super Seniors Pennants Results - Monday 22nd August 2022

Our Super Seniors Team had a great win last week against Wyong at Magenta Shores to remain undefeated. Today they took on the other undefeated team, Magenta at Breakers Golf Course. It was close but in the end our boys went down 5 to 3 with wins to Sammo. 4KNA and Stimo. Dave Hemming was 3 down with 4 to go and a putt on the last could have seen him come away with a half.

 

Next week we have a bye before our last match at Kooindah  Waters against Shelly Beach. A win here could see us progress to the next round.

We had a bit of a chilly start for the day this morning but it did not deter thirteen of our volunteers.

On hand we had Sam Knox, Trevor Harrison, Duncan Dyer, Kevin O’Brien, Rob Benson, Paul Smith, Nigel Asken, Adrian Burke, Don Nicholls, Peter Martin, John Hollebon, Steve Robinson and Jan Martin.

The course has substantially dried up which meant we could get our heavy vehicles out on the course. 

The Vets were playing on the course today so it was very busy with golfers.

Projects worked on today were Rubbish and loose timber pickup around the course, tree maintenance, trimming of shrubs and path maintenance at the 11th Tee, repair of steps at the 8th tee, removal of weeds from the dam, removal of weeds from the 6th Native Garden.

The day had warmed up by morning tea so we enjoyed our fresh sandwiches while soaking up some lovely sunshine.

We had a very enjoyable but tough day at the Golf Course ( walking distance from our resort)

I have not had a club in my hand since last February so I was happy with a lot of my shots today and loved all the run on a dry course. We hired some Ping Clubs to play with and they were good quality clubs so I can thank them for getting me over some of the water hazards.

My bragging rights today was getting over the water hole on the first Par 3, my drive to the green and two putts for a par.

We took 10 golf balls with us thinking that would be enough - bought another 10 balls off the local natives at the 3rd green and at the end of the day we had 8 balls left.

Super Seniors Matchplay Report

 

Super Seniors Matchplay commenced two weeks ago and our boys have done very well to win their first two matches. We had a good win against Kooindah at Shelly Beach 4 1/2 to 3 1/2 with Mark Faulkner and Garry Fitch winning their matches on the last hole. Mark was down 3 with 4 to go.

We played Breakers at Everglades last Monday and again had a strong win 6 to 2. We March on to Magenta Shores to play a strong Wyong team next Monday. Good luck boys.

We may need a reserve or two over the coming weeks so if you’re over 65 years old and keen to have a go give me a call.

We had another good weather day for us to be able to work out on the course

We had some members on sick leave and holiday leave which left us with eight volunteers.

On hand we had Trevor Harrison, Kevin O’Brien, Rob Benson, Don Nicholls, Peter Martin, Nigel Asken, John Hollebon and Jan Martin.

Projects worked on today were Loose Timber and Rubbish pick up around the course, blowing the paths 1st and 10th tees, transfer of the notice board for the course rules, trimming of camellias and tidy up of paths between the 17th and 18th holes, cutting up and removal of fallen cactus plant at the Ladies 3rd tee, tidy up of the 6th tranquility garden, a start made on the 6th Native garden along the creek which we have not been able to get to since last year because of other priorities, Covid and the course being too wet to work on. 

The kitchen was closed today because of staff shortages so we had a makeshift morning tea from the Pro Shop which saved us from starvation. Sheena Asken was back on duty as Ladies Captain and joined us for morning tea.
