We had a sweltering day for golf but no rain.  It was pleasant at the start of the day but it soon warmed up as the forecast had promised.

My golf partners today were Rosalie Dyer and Doon Jansen and we had a lovely day on the village green.  We did have some good highlights with some near misses for good scores and they were great compnay.

F-Troop - Monday 27th February 2012

We had a small crew on duty today so we had to focus in on the important tasks of the day.

It was Vets Day so we had restricted access to the course - fortunately there was plenty to do in safe areas today.

We had Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Rob Benson, Nigel Asken, Peter Martin, Garry Trigg, Sam Knox, John Coddington, Jan Martin and we welcomed a new starter today - Trevor Harrison.

The tree gang of Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Sam Knox and Trevor Harrison took the chain saws to the large sections of timber that needed to be cut down to a size that Sam & Trevor could feed through the wood splitting machine.  It was a job well done & increases our firewood supply.

Rob Benson & Garry Trigg took care of timber and rubbish pick up around the course & assisted me with the planting of some Strelitzia plants.

Nigel Asken continued his attack on the crabgrasses on the 15th & worked right through morning tea to get the job done.

Peter Martin & John Coddington took care of some repair work inside the clubhouse including fixing the step strips, door hinges etc.

I was working on my own today & got the Lavender Way garden back under control after we lost a lot of plants due to wet weather. (Unfortunately there is more bed weather due which will not help to get the plants established.)  After that I worked around the wedding garden area & the practice nets cleaning up that corner of the course.  I was able to use the wood shavings and saw dust accumulated by the tree gang to use as very good mulch on the wedding garden.

We have received some excellent donations this week which will kick us along.

Club Director Col Adams has donated a blower to F-Troop so that we can better manage the state of the area underneath the clubhouse.  That was a very generous donation and much appreciated.  Thanks Col!

Another very generous donation was received from the RSL Social players - $200 towards F-Troop projects.  Thank you RSL Club social members.  I can now order some more plants for the new garden.

Don Nicholls donated an advanced Agavi plant today which was very much appreciated as they are ideal plants for the golf course.  Thank you Don!

Bruce Binns donated a good supply of indoor/outdoor plants which will be very useful to us - giving us a good choice of plants to swap over inside the club when the existing plants get oxygen/light deprived which happens with indoor plants.  Bruce went to a lot of trouble to deliver the plants over to us in good order & that was very much appreciated.  Thanks Bruce!

Annette Dunk has donated a big supply of succulent plants which are waiting for us to find enough time to plants out.  Thanks Annette!

Lea Southon has donated a large supply of old carpet for us to use as weed matting.  We have not had sufficient manpower on hand to collect the carpet yet but it will be well used when we do get it.  Thanks Lea!

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR BEING SO SUPPORTIVE TO F-TROOP.   All donations are put to good use and make life easier for the F-Troopers.

Morning tea this morning was fruit pastries and mini muffins which was appreciated by the troopers as it was very hot work around the course today.  Thanks Chef John!

After morning tea we had an inspection of the stone wall at the Men's 10th tee which has been weakened by heavy rain.  That is another task for F-Troop to consider rather than waiting for the wall to collapse from water pressure.

In all today we did some good work with a very small crew.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Golf - Sunday 26th February 2012

We had a beautiful day of SUNSHINE today which made it a very enjoyable day for golf.
The course is in great condition after all the really continuous bad weather.  The course recovers remarkable well after heavy rain thanks to the drainage work being put in place by our greenstaff.

Our playing partners today were Doug & Robin Incoll and we had a great day playing with no pressure at the end of the field.  There were large groups of Pennants Players on the course starting prior to our competition so it was a big day at Gosford.

The Golf Event of the day was a 2 Ball Team + Single Stableford.

We had 75 starters with 4 visitors from Everglades, Shelly Beach & Terrigal.

Golf - Tuesday 21st February 2012

There is not too much to say about golf today as we have had nothing but rain overnight and right through the morning.  The course was originally open - but no carts were allowed - but then it continued to rain.

As it stands at the moment the course will be open tomorrow if there is no more rain - a decision will be made in the morning regarding the course and use of carts.

My photo graveyard is my rainy day job and it is something that I avoid as much as I can.  We have had so many rainy days that I cannot ignore it any longer so I managed to put a small dent in the pile today.  Thank heavens for digital cameras & computers so the hard copy paper war can cease.   I have got 50 years + of hard copy photos that have to be dealt with and my scanner and shredder have been running hot all day.
I am the hoarder from hell and I am trying to reform.

The forecast for tomorrow is not wonderful but we may get some glimpses of sun tomorrow & hopefully some golf.

F-Troop - Monday 20th February 2012

Another huge day for F-Troop with some good tasks being achieved.

We had 15 Troopers on hand to lighten the work.

Martin Gallagher, Geoff Bridge, Des Wilson, Duncan Dyer, Rob Benson, Richard Casey, Bruce White, Warren Gray, Peter Martin, Nigel Asken, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess, Georgina Lamb & Jan Martin made up today's hard working team.

There was a big Social Day of golf with an 8.30 shotgun start which kept us off some parts of the course however we had plenty to do at the 1st & 10th tees which meant that we could work off the course.

Our tree gang of Duncan, Martin, Geoff & Des removed a dead pine tree at the back of the 11th green that was a full mornings work cutting down the tree and removing the timber.

Rob & Richard did some clean up work around the course before golf started & then worked at the 1st & 10th tees removing the hedge stumps to make room for the relocating of the club signs; removed the signs from the bubbler garden & set them into their new positions; assisted in loading new soil into the garden for the hedge plants.

Warren & Bruce did some good pick up around the course before golf started and then assisted us at the 1st & 10th tees.

Peter collected some new garden soil for the Bubbler Garden, repaired some pots, dug out the old soil from the garden and replaced it with new soil, placed the old loamy soil out onto the path at the 10th.

Di Beechey, Anne Burgess, Georgina Lamb helped me at the 1st and 10th tees preparing the garden, removing and relocating old plants; planting in new hedge plants;spreading out soil on the 10th path

Nigel continued his work on the 1st and 10th tees removing rogue weeds.

It was a busy day and we appreciated morning tea of Bacon Rolls (compliments of the Avoca SLSC BBQ breakfast) and some iced cakes compliments of Chef John.  Thank you from the F-Troopers!

We were able to make headway with the new garden at the 1st and 10th tees because we had received sufficient donations and sales of firewood to enable us to commence to purchase the plants that we need.
We have received funds from Wood Sales to Ian Anderson (thank you Ian) and donations from the Central Coast Leagues Club Social Golfers, June Bowen, Doon Jansen's Art Exhibition donations, Members Donations to our donation box in the Pro Shop : totalling approximately $500.  We have also received some good donations of plants from members over this month which have been appreciated.  We have also received a donation of a lot of old carpet that we can use on the gardens as weed matting  Yes! Members can make a difference!

After the huge electrical storm that we received overnight we did not know what to expect the course to be like.  Fortunately we did not have any major damage and carts were allowed on the course for golf and we were able to get our vehicles out to work.

.YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
