F-Troop - Monday 1st March 2010

A little bit of rain and Autumn cool did not stop our F-Troop regulars from working. We had a huge load of work to get through today so we carried on regardless of the rain.
F-Troopers on duty today were Duncan Dyer, Garry Trigg, Martin Gallagher, Peter Martin, Geoff Bridge, Bruce White, Warren Gray, Arthur Verlander and we were ably assisted by Sam Knox who did another hard mornings work on the wood splitter.
Morning tea this morning were some scrumptious muffins fresh from the oven & a variety of
yummy slices. Thank you John!
We started the morning loading some road base to fill a hole so that the wood splitting machine could sit evenly on the ground to do its work.
Garry Trigg did his shift on the rough cutter, Waren Gray & Bruce White were on clean up duty with plenty of branches & rubbish to pick up around the course, they also trimmed some branches that were overhanging the path at the 17th green. Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge & Martin Gallagher assisted Sam Knox with the wood splitting and wood stacking. Arthur Verlander, Peter & I created new gardens at the 5th tee. Martin Gallagher also fertilized the grasses at the 15th and the Mandevillea at the 18th.
We now have a good supply of timber to sell off for fuel this winter. It is a perfect time now for you to pre-order so that you do not miss out on this quality timber that we are selling at a very reasonable price. All profits from the sale of timber go towards our F-Troop projects.
The gardens at the 5th tee were created this morning thanks to some very generous donations from our members. All the plants in the garden are donations from various members, the pebbles were donated by Col & Kay Adams, the bush rocks were jointly donated by Martin Gallagher and Wally Bailey, the garden soil & begonias were paid from a cash donation by Paula Drew (that same cash donation paid for the replacement iceberg roses on the putting green).
These gardens have been a while in the making as I was held up because it was very difficult to get hold of the right size bush rock for the job. I hope you all think it was worth waiting for.
YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Golf - Sunday 28th February 2010

We had a perfect day for golf today even though the humidity was a little high the cloud cover in the afternoon was very welcome with a nice breeze and everyone's highlight was that we did not get wet.

Our playing partners today were Neville & Jan Walker & we had great fun trying to beat the boys for the Keno Ticket. The boys were one up at the half way mark & we lost the next three holes in a row only to fight back to the last hole which Jan & I had to win the square the match. Neville came in with a 3 pointer on the last hole to win for the boys which brought them bad luck as the keno ticket won nothing. They should learn something from this exercise.

The Event of the day was a 2 Ball Team + Single Stableford Mixed Men and Ladies.

Golf - Thursday 25th February 2010

Some of us sacrificed golf for the "Three Putt" luncheon at "The Cove" restaurant, the Haven at Terrigal. Each Tuesday competition day some of us put in 50 cents for every 3 putt we do (within reason) & that money is put towards the cost of a luncheon at the end of the season. We obviously all put in some substantial donations through the year as the luncheon was very nice - especially the desserts - making the 3 putts somewhat rewarding. Terrigal Haven was at it's sparkling best, beautiful blue water & a lovely backdrop for a luncheon.
The Event of the day at golf was a Ladies Single Par - Over the Field and we had 30 starters.

The temperature was much better for golf today with a nice breeze to help out. My playing partners were Wendy Stapleton & Glennis English & we had a fun day with mixed fortunes.
After three days of golf in a row for many of us (in very hot weather) it was a little testing and we were all happy to be back in the airconditioned comfort of the 19th hole after we had scrambled through the 18 holes.
The Event of the day was a Ladies Single Stableford and we had 66 players with visitors from Terrigal.
RESULTS:
DIVISION 1 - 0 TO 20
WINNER: Jan Fitzgerald - 38 points

It was reported to me that Alice Collett hit her drive at the 18th to in front of the left hand tree near the drain. After several air swings Alice hit the ball into the tree & it rebounded back towards her. Alice then had another air swing, then eventually connected with the ball placing it over near the dam edge. Her playing partners kindly assured her that there were no trees over there!!!!!!!!!. Alice then proceeded to shank her next shot left into the trees on the other side.
Never mind Alice! We have one warm comforting thought - There is always next week...........!

CCWGA Open Day at Gosford - Monday 22nd February 2010

It was an incredibly hot day for golf today. I believe the temperature got to 38 degrees and we certainly did feel it out on the course. Thankfully there was some breeze in the afternoon to get us through.
Todays Event was the Central Coast Womens Golf Association Open Day which was held at Gosford. There were two shotgun starts to accommodate all the players wishing to participate.
The 7.00am group got the early dewy part of the day but were spared part of the heat.
My team was in the 12.00pm shotgun group and my playing partners were Christine Drakeford, Mary Beard and Jan Walker. We hit of the 10th tee which was a handy start tee. We did have some good highlights throughout the day with Mary getting 3 pointers at the 1st, 5th, 9th ; Jan had 3 pointers at the 9th and 16th; Christine had 3 pointers at the 5th, 6th & 7th; I had good long putt at the 4th into the hole, a 3 pointer at the 9th and a 4 pointer at the 17th. Norma Cubis had a great birdie at the 6th. I was not able to get around all the groups to gather the rest of the highlights.
The team of Wendy Stapleton, Lorraine Linnert, Sheena Asken and Michele Martin were 3rd place winners in the afternoon group. WELL DONE GOSFORD GIRLS!
Attached is a copy of the results of the Afternoon Competition. You can click on the image to enlarge it to a better viewing size & you can print a copy or copy the file to your computer by using the 'page' option. Click your 'back' key to return to this page.
I am sorry I am not able to give your a copy of this mornings results as it was not available to me. Overall it was a very successful day with the District Committee arranging and organising a mid day BBQ for all the participants which was appreciated by all.

Golf - Sunday 21st February 2010

It was a very hot day for golf but never the less it was better than playing in heavy rain.

Our playing partners today were Wally & Robyn Johnston & we had a great day. Wally played an exceptional game getting many three pointers for our team & threw in a four pointer birdie as well. We thought we were travelling pretty well as a team having 25 points at the turn - so we aimed for 50 points which we thought would put us up in contention. There were exceptional scores and 50 points did not even come close - so the positive from that means that the course is getting more player friendly producing some great scores today.

The Event of the day was a Singles for Men and Ladies plus Medley Teams Event

We had 108 starters with 26 visitors from Everglades, Mangrove Mountain, Terrigal & Wyong.

MEDLEY TEAM RESULTS:
