Golf - Sunday 30th June 2013

Golf!  Well there was not any!  The rain had taken it's toll on the course and closed us down for the weekend.  However.......there are GOOD THINGS TO COME as you can see by the blue sky and sunshine coming through today with hopefully more to follow.

Tomorrow the front car park will be out of bounds for parking purposes as the large tree out the front of the club is due to be taken down (weather permitting).

It is planned that that area will be action stations tomorrow with a lot of timber to come down and be moved.
Our firewood stocks will be replenished by this additional supply of timber - so keep those firewood orders rolling in  to ensure your timber supply this winter.  All profits from the sale of the timber go towards the beautification of our golf course.

The car park damage will be repaired with asphalt where possible in due course.

F-Troopers will be in full force tomorrow and with the help of the green staff we hope to have this project dealt with the least amount of inconvenience to the Members.

For those Members who have signed up for another year of golf with Gosford Golf Club I wish you HAPPY GOLFING and not too many wet days!

Golf - Saturday 29th June 2013

We are definitely 'NOT HAPPY JAN' with this continuing rainfall causing havoc to our golf and functions.

The course was under water today and the course WAS CLOSED.

The water was top level in the dams and the water spread well over some of the fairways.

Consequently the course has been CLOSED FOR TOMORROW so there is no golf even for the diehards at Gosford this weekend.

Luckily we had some functions to keep the clubhouse in business.

F-Troop - Monday 24th June 2013

After all the rain of the previous few days and the closure of the course yesterday we had little hope that we might get any of our projects under way today.

We had no rain at all this morning and we were able to complete the main project of the day which was the lifting of the asphalt around the base of the tree in the front car park so that the tree can be removed next Monday.

We had six volunteers to work today which was fantastic.  We could not get out on the course but we did have some good projects lined up that we could do off the course.  We had Trevor Harrison, Peter Martin, Sam Knox Di Beechey, Anne Burgess and Jan Martin to do maintenance today.

Peter, Trevor & Sam worked on preparing and raking the car park and assisted the asphalt contractor to lift up the asphalt and road base assisted by two of the green staffers Peter & Darryl.  The boys also changed over the Professionals car spaces at Scott's request.

I worked on replacing the comquat tree in the wedding garden that was damaged beyond repair when the big tree fell across the wedding garden, raked the rubbish up near the pathway to the tees, putting green and underneath the clubhouse, cut back the overgrown Star Jasmin in the front gardens that was choking the Magnolia trees with some help from Sam Knox, and pruned the roses at the putting green.

Peter & Sam also repaired a refrigerator handle in the clubhouse.

Di and Anne repotted some of the inside plants and gave them all some TLC.

We all appreciated a lovely morning tea of croissants and Jam - Thanks Chef John!

Next week we have a huge project which is the removal of the large tree at the front of the clubhouse.
Members are reminded that the front car park will be closed while this project is in action.  The side entrance to the the back car park will be open so there will be access to the back car parking.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Golf - Sunday 23rd June 2013

The weather has been unkind to us AGAIN and the course has been closed for the day!

Not Happy Jan!

We have a chance today to do some catch up work.  I have been doing some more of our Vietnam photos and am at the verge of finishing - only Hanoi to go.

If you are really bored and have no catch up work to do you can view our Vietnam experience by switching to my travel blog where I have just put up the Halong Bay photos - beautiful.

You can click on my profile viewing and select my travel blog from there. You can select the area of Vietnam you would like to view from the menu on the right hand side or continue to click on "older post" when you reach the bottom of each viewing area.  alternatively www.janmartinstravelblog.blogspot.com

Golf - Tuesday 18th June 2013

We had a beautiful day of sunshine for golf today.  My playing partners were Lyn Cruickshanks and Judy Verlander and we had a lovely day out on the course with some good highlights along the way.  We tried very hard to get a gobbler shot during the day by putting from off one side of the green and off the other side giving us two opportunities. However we did get some good putts in and Lyn excelled herself with some great one putts.

The Golf Event of the day was a Ladies Single Stroke - 4th GNSW & Club Medal NSWVWGA Championships.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: Rosalie Dyer & Sharon Anderson both had gobblers at the 1st; Sharon Anderson had a good front 9; Elizabeth McNamara had a gobbler at the 8th; Mary Beard putted well; Ronda Jordon and her partners had some brilliant play; Carolyn Buttsworth sank 18 putts (eventually); Faye Levenspiel lost sight of her ball after it went astray at the 14th and found it had rebounded onto the green. Faye then went on to score a birdie; Kerry Williams had a gobbler on the 18th after it rebounded off of Kath's ball; Lyn Cruickshanks had back to back pars on the 4th and 5th and a lot of one putts; Judy Verlander played some good approach shots to the green on the 10th & 12th; my highlights were enjoying the company & the sunshine.

Congratulations to Kerry Williams on the birth of her new granddaughter Ellora in Singapore (photo attached)

Funeral details for the Late Terry Riley is as follows:

Palmdale on Friday 21st June 2013 at 1 o'clock.

F-Troop - Monday 17th June 2013

We had a very productive morning with F-Troop today making some in roads into some of our projects.

There were 11 volunteers which was good considering the final round of the USA golf was on and we had a few that could not come for varying reasons.  On hand we had Trevor Harrison, Don, Nicholls, Duncan Dyer,  Martin Gallagher, George Foster, Garry Trigg, Sam Knox, Warren Gray, Peter Martin, Rob Benson & Jan Martin.

The Tree Gang of Duncan Dyer, Martin Gallagher, George Foster & Garry Trigg took care of a tree at the 8th fairway.

Trevor Harrison & Don Nicholls installed garden board edges at the new 14th garden.

Warren Gray & Rob Benson were on rubbish pick up duties.

Sam Knox did rubbish pick up and wired an Elk Horn onto the tree at the Ladies 13th Tee with the help of Duncan Dyer, Rob Benson, Warren Gray & Peter Martin.

Peter Martin organised the work groups, organised the asphalt removal in the front car park & helped with rubbish pick up.

I picked up rubbish in the car parks, raked the back of the clubhouse, watered the plants in pots at the wedding garden, tidied the Bush Toilets and weeded the existing gardens at the 14th.

It was a cool day so we all appreciated a beautiful morning tea of scones, jam & cream.  Thanks Chef John!

We received a very generous donation of $200 from the RSL Club Social Club which was much appreciated as we always have ongoing projects that require funding.  MANY THANKS to Trevor Harrison and the RSL Club Golfers.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

We had the most beautiful day for golf today - if all the winter days were like this we would be very happy.

Narelle came in Runner Up in her Division and I won nearest the pin on the 8th.   I have to dob myself in today for the start to my golf day.  Having arrived and got my golf cart to the car I check listed all my needs for the day - hat & glove - Check! apple, banana & water - Check! Shoes & Socks - Check! gps, tees & golf balls - Check! I then proceeded to the Pro Shop and paid my green fees. Being still a little early for tee off  I decided to have a practice putt and drove down to the practice green, went to get out my putter & found that I had not got the golf clubs out of the car.......and that was just the start of my day!!!!!
