Part 2 - Tuesday 1st December 2009 - Year End Presentation

Today was the Ladies Christmas Party and Presentation which commenced at 11 o'clock which meant no golf today but a lot of socialising and merriment, together with a lovely luncheon enjoyed by 102 of our Members.

Berry Hanly said 'Grace' prior to lunch and later formally cut our Christmas cake.

The morning started with drinks and nibbles in the Magnolia Room, followed by Presentation of Trophies and lunch in the Sunset Room. Following lunch we sang some Christmas Carols lead by Lynda Hartley who had us captured with her beautiful singing voice.

We were entertained with a very amusing synchronised swimming skit by Robyn Krahe, Lyn Douglas, Doreen Vines and Helen Broadbent followed by an equally amusing Cinderella Skit performed by Jan Fitzgerald, Lyn Cruickshanks and Lorraine Linnert (the three ugly sisters); Wendy Healy (Fairy Godmother); Peta Bone (Cinderella) and John Homer (the prince) and led by Debbie Grinham who had lost her voice, but managed to get through the show. I am not sure that we have got over seeing Johnathon Homer in black tights. Congratulations to all the performers - everyone enjoyed the show.

John Grayson (Chef)

Sally McCoy (Office Manager)

David Nicholls ( Course Superintendant)

Mark Churcher (Golf Professional)

It was a very enjoyable day and was very well organised by President Christine Drakeford and our Ladies Committee and Social Committee girls & all are to be congratulated.

My day was made extra special with donations received towards our gardens: Margaret Mackie $100 cash and Col & Kay Adams - pebbles for the 3rd garden at the Ladies tee and pavers for the new garden at the 6th. These donations contribute greatly to the enhancement of our golf course and is much appreciated by myself and the F-Troop workers.

F-Troop - Monday 30th November 2009

It was another busy day for the F-Troopers with plenty of work to be done. Fortunately the weather has settled a little and it was not as hot as it has been previously in the week which meant we could achieve quite a few more jobs on our "Bucket List".

Those I saw working today were Martin Gallagher, Duncan Dyer, Spencer Walklate, Warren Gray, Geoff Bridge, Peter Martin, Garry Trigg, Noel Fenning, Anne Burgess and Judy Hughes.

The boys started the morning with the removal of dead trees at the 13th fairway. We had some big rubbish pick ups to be done and raking of paths and untidy areas, filling in of pot holes in the paths at the 3rd and the 13th.

Our ducks will not be too pleased with the repair of their favourite pot hole on the 3rd that they use as a learn-to-swim centre for their ducklings. (see photo on previous posting). They do have an alternative waterhole at the 3rd. The pothole was getting so big that we would have had to build a bridge over it to get our buggies through on the path at the 3rd tee.

We also got the rest of our new trees replanted into good quality soil to give them the best possible chance to grow well. The tibouchinas on the 2nd have responded very well to replanting, the three limelights on the 7th are looking much happier and now the three Blue Ice at the 12th green should show some good response to the TLC.

I managed to get some new plants in at the shade garden at the Ladies 2nd tee and gave the gardens at the 12th and the 13th Ladies Garden a good watering.
The drains at the 7th tee have been cleaned of rubbish and dirt and paths at the 4th, 7th, 13th, 5th, 17th and 18th have been raked.
Anne Burgess and Judy Hughes put in a good mornings work at the back of the 10th green working in their camelia and boganvillea gardens.

We also managed to get a few low lying branches down & a bit of trimming.
In all - a good mornings work was done by all our workers today.
The original plan to remove tree stumps of Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week had to be postponed as our professional stump remover was not able to come this week. We are hoping that this project can be completed next week. However this will be subject to the professional's availability. I will keep you posted on the developments of this project.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Golf - Sunday 29th November 2009

Today's Event was the very prestigious 56TH NAGGER'S CUP with trophies proudly donated by our Club Professional Mark Churcher. The Nagger's Cup has been one of the most popular Club Events since it was introduced to our club 56 years ago by Mark's father - Peter Churcher who was our previous Club Professional.

We had 158 starters today. Our playing partners were Col and Lauren Matterson & we had a great day. Lauren is an occasional golfer and played extremely well considering she has not played in about two years. This is a day when non golfers can participate and have some fun out on the course. It was good to see Peta Bone, Sally McCoy and Jonathon Homer out on the course enjoying their golf - they are part of our professional administration and hospitality team here at the club.

NO HANDICAPPING TODAY.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: This year we celebrated the 56th Nagger's Cup - the following people have been consistantly playing - Rob and Robin Brann - 42 years; Peter & Margaret Davidson - 30 odd years; Steve and Di Thomlinson - 40 years; Brent Frewin - 36 years - HOW GOOD IS THAT!

Today was Bob Knox and Doon Jansen's 1st Wedding Anniversary - Congratulations Doon & Bob!

A huge highlight tonight was a $10,000 keno win to Rob & Robin Brann, Peter & Margaret Davidson, Spencer Walklate and Tania Burt, Doreen & Garry Trigg and Neil & Nerida Hancock. WOW! Now that is a highlight!
Congratulations to all.

Golf highlights today: Col Matterson got to hit off from both the Men's and the Ladies tees on the 5th;
Peter Martin had a great 2nd shot to the back of the green on the 3rd; my highlight was a great chip to the green on the 6th from a very awkward position on a tree root (put there by Peter) ;

Just a reminder to get your name down for the Mixed Foursomes that has been rescheduled to Sunday 13th December - to date we have about 100 starters.

ERIC APPERLY SHIELD RESULTS:

Sadly our team went down to Wyong 3 1/2 matches to 2 at Mangrove Mountain today. Our boys put in a valiant effort & congratulations to all of them for doing so well in this competition. Better luck next year!
