Golf - Thursday 29th September 2011 - Garden Competition Results

There was no golf competition today as the weather has turned on us again with some very heavy falls through the day and some high winds.  A handful of girls braved the course for 9 holes or so for a bit of social golf.

The good news is the results of the Gosford City Garden Competition.

WE WON  THE "BEST COMMERCIAL GARDEN" ENCOMPASSING ALL OF THE GARDENS ON THE GOLF COURSE - FIRSTLY GAINING FINALIST STAGE IN THAT CATEGORY AND ALSO  A FINALIST STAGE IN THE  "BEST THEME GARDEN" FOR OUR NATIVE GARDEN ON THE 6TH.

We have received a lovely glass trophy, three certificates and $125 in prize money from the sponsors of this event : KINCUMBER SAND & SOIL - $100 VOUCHER AND KENNARDS HIRE - $25 VOUCHER
which we can make good use of to improve the gardens on the course. Our thanks to these sponsors!

Fellow F-Troopers Di Beechey and Georgina Lamb were my support crew tonight at the Presentation Night held at Erina Fair Conference Centre attended by some 200 odd people.

My Thanks and appreciation to all of our F-troopers who have all put in a great effort to get our gardens and course  to a high standard that we can be proud of.  This trophy is for you!

I am sorry for the delay is publishing this post - yesterday was a big day & I just ran out of time.

We had  beautiful weather for our Foursomes Championships and the course was in great condition given that we had in the previous couple of days more than five inches of rain.  If there was any bad golf happening out there it certainly was not the fault of the fairways & greens.

My playing partner was Rosemary Cohen and our other two players were Susan Bourne and Pam Witt.  We had a lovely day with great company and we all played well enough to win a ball.  We had some good highlights between us and a lot of laughs when we found ourselves in places we had never been before.
We played in Division two over 27 holes which was a big enough day for us.  Division one played over 36 holes.

The Event of the day was the 2011 LADIES FOURSOMES CHAMPIONSHIPS - Division 1 (Handicaps 0 to 26 1/2) played over 36 holes and Division 2 (Handicaps 27 to 45) played over 27 holes.

F-Troop - Monday 26th September 2011

We had another busy day for F-Troop after 4 1/2 inches of rain the previous day restricted our access to the course, as usual we found plenty of other tasks in need of attention that did not require us to be out on the course  The wild winds of the previous week left us with timber & branches down everywhere and even though we could not access much of the course we managed to collect quite  a few trailer & ute loads of rubbish.

We had Duncan Dyer, Martin Gallagher, Geoff Bridge, Warren Gray, John Coddington, Peter Martin, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess, Georgina Lamb, Jan Martin & we welcomed for the first time Rob Benson to the F-Troop Brigade.

The Tree Brigade - Duncan Dyer, Martin Gallagher, Geoff Bridge removed branches from trees at the 18th, the 10th Men's tee garden and the 1st, removing rubbish & leaving all areas in good order.

John Coddington & Warren Gray, Peter Martin, Rob Benson, Di Beechey and Anne Burgess cleaned up the carpark areas, unblocked some drains & generally cleaned up rubbish from the front area of the clubhouse and the first and tenth tees.  John Coddington also volunteered to clean up the battery terminals on the ute so that we did not have any more trouble with the ute stalling..

The back garden of the Men's 10th tee was cleaned out with the removal of some trees and shrubs that were past their use by date.    This garden will now be cleaned out and new replacement shrubs put in place.

Georgina Lamb helped me to plant out six streletzias at the wedding garden area to help block off the street view of the wedding garden.  We also planted out five geisha girl shrubs at the racecourse road fence at the 1st green.

Georgina, Anne Di & myself cleaned up the practice net areas, the wedding garden, the first and tenth tee areas & the putting green area.  Later trimming the camellias & shrubs at the wedding garden.

Peter Martin & Rob Benson erected a sandstone garden seat at the ladies 10th tee.  This seat was donated to the club by Sam Knox.  Thank you Sam!.  Your recent donations have been wonderful & much appreciated by the members.

Peter, Rob & Mark Stimpson did some repair work on one of the work trolleys & Peter secured some shelving to the wall in our club storage area.

Our morning tea of fruit & chocolate pastries were much appreciated and we certainly earned them with hard work by our troopers today.  Thank you Chef John!

The 10th garden area is slowly coming together & should look very refreshed in the near future.

YES!  WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Golf - Sunday 25th September 2011 - Mixed Team Series Final

MIXED TEAM SERIES FINAL POSTPONED.

Due to very wet weather overnight and this morning the course has been deemed unplayable.

The Mixed Team Series Final has been postponed to December 2011 - date - Sunday 11th December 2011 which seemed to be the most popular date among the 60 odd players that attended the dinner dance tonight.

The Dinner Dance did go ahead with 60 odd players and guests attending the evening.  We enjoyed a lovely dinner & some great company.  Photos attached.  It is a pity about the weather but there is not much that we can do about four inches of rain in a 24 hour period.

Our team had a bonding session last night to cement our confidence in our ability to win.

We now have to hold our enthusiasm until the 11th December 2011 when the final battle is fought out.

NO HANDICAPPING TODAY as it was a fun day.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY: There would have been too many highlights to mention today as we had casual golf rules in place and I am sure that we all had plenty of good moments.  I was witness to one highlight in my team that is worth mentioning.  Anne Burgess hit a beautiful drive down the 16th fairway & followed that up with a 7 iron shot to the green that was never going to miss going in the hole for an EAGLE 2/5.  CONGRATULATIONS ANNE!  Footnote:  Anne did not use any of the casual rules on this hole to gain that score.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Committee and Social Committee that put together a great day that everyone enjoyed.  All monies raised on the day went towards Breast Cancer Research which is a worthy cause that we all love to support.  The lady member's also put in a good effort supplying goods for the produce stall & all the players supported well by buying just about everything on the table as well as participating in the raffles and other fund raiser projects of the day.An amount of approximately $2000 was mentioned as money raised on the day, however I will confirm that amount when everything has been tallied up.

A big thank you to Scott Cubis & Tom Ballard who were hitting our drives off the 10th for a $2 donation to the Breast Cancer Foundation.  Tommy put my drive just short of the drain & the ball was sitting nicely on the fairway.  It takes two of my good shots to get that far.  Thanks Tommy!  Thanks also to Ron Beechey who collected the $2 donations at the 10th tee.
