Rules Update

Captains Report January 2018

The Holiday season is now past and we now look forward to another year of golf.
During the last month there have been a number of significant changes to the course and Local Rules.
The major change to our club deals with handicapping and the course rating. In December we applied to Golf Australia to have a desktop audit of all our scores since the introduction of Golflink. The result of this survey was that it was recommended that the slope rating for the Blue Course be decreased from 122 to 119 with a scratch rating of 74 and the White Course increased from 116 to 118 with a scratch rating of 70.  The match Committee has agreed to implement this change as from the 1st February 2018. The overall effect of this new rating should see your handicaps come down which we all strive to achieve. The ladies ratings were reviewed and it was decided not to adopt the changes as advised by Golf Australia.
Our Local tree root rule has been amended so that a drop is not allowed if outside of two club lengths from the base of the nearest tree if the position of the root interferes with your stance. The new rule is printed on the back of the new scorecards.
Around the course there have been a number of changes that members should note:
·        White posts have been removed from the Camelias at the back of the 10th Green
·        White posts have been removed from the Tibochinas on the second fairway
·        Drop zones have been removed for the 17th green. The garden to the left front of the green near the bunker is GUR and the rules of golf apply for the taking of relief. The rear of the 17th green newly grassed area is in play. There is GUR beyond this area and the rules of golf apply when taking relief. The bunker at the right of the green is GUR and is being rebuild hopefully will be in play within the next couple of weeks
·        Members are advised that for the time being that the areas under and near the Bunyip Pines on the 16 and 17th should be treated as GUR. It is very difficult to mark the whole of the area but members should exercise common sense when playing a shot in this area. This will apply till the end of February.
·        There has been a recommendation that we make all hazard markers Red. This would simplify the rules especially on the 3rd Hole. I would appr3eciate any feedback from member and you rule experts.

The 2018 Mens CCDGA pennants commences on Sunday 4th February All matches will be played at neutral courses and we wish all the selected players great golfing. Gosford will host 3 games for visiting clubs and this will effect the Sunday Competition. Dates have been included in the Fixtures Book. The Junior Pennants season commence on 4th February. Four of our Juniors will be representing other clubs. Jemison Fitzgerald, Cruz and Lincon Papallardo will play as part of the Morisset team and Flynn Cho will play for Wyong. Next year we will have our own team.

Bunya Pine warning on the 16th & 17th Fairways

These areas on the 16th & 17th fairways will be
marked to let you know the danger areas of
falling Bunya Pines

Bunya Pine with sharp thorns

Bunya Pine

Bunya Pine

Bunya Pines scattered by the birds on the 17th fairway

Members, please be aware of these areas on the 16th and 17th fairways. During the months of January and February the pines will drop without warning from the trees and they are extremely dangerous.  Not only are they heavy but they have pointed sharp pineapple-like thorns that would cause serious, if not fatal injuries should anyone be unfortunate enough to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The Greens Committee have marked out the danger areas as GUR- so please be aware of the danger and be cautious when retrieving your balls.

The F-Troop have cleaned up the area today of all the fallen pines, but the pines will continue to fall for the month or so.

We had a very rewarding number of 17 volunteers (+ 2 Junior volunteers) at F-Troop today to tackle the mess that was left on the course by the high winds yesterday.

On hand were Duncan Dyer, Trevor Harrison, Sam Knox, Kevin O'Brien, Garry Trigg, Steve Hogg, Rob Benson, Terry Coyle, John Hollebon, Ron Gowing, Don Nicholls, Mark Stimpson, Peter Martin, Andy Henebury, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess & Jan Martin (+ Joel Martin & Emily Martin)

Our projects worked on today were removal of the fallen timber on the 17th, rake up of the Bunya Pine area on the 17th, trimming of the Hydrangeas on the 3rd tee, weeding of gardens on the 3rd tee, new signs on the bush toilets, cleaning of the Bush Toilets and watering the gardens at the greenspace on the 14th, cleanup of the 1st and 10th tees, cleanup of the wedding garden and practice nets, watering the gardens at the 1st & 10th tees, wedding garden, putting green gardens, around the clubhouse gardens, BBQ garden, 18th tee gardens and camellias, tidy up of the 6th tranquility garden,
dead headed some of the agapanthus on the 5th, started on weeding some of the 6th native garden, watering the pots at the 6th, bike garden, 9th ladies tea & 9th green, tidying the wedding gazebo, watering the pots, cleaning the leaves out of the ponds, dead heading the roses at the putting green, and the most important project of all was loose timber and rubbish pick up around the course.

Our gardens are suffering from burn off with the unusually high temperatures and sadly we will loose some.

Morning tea was very welcome as everyone put in a hard morning's work - thank you to Barto for our goodies which were especially appreciated by my Emily (the chocolate donuts were yum!)

See my following post regarding the Bunya Pines which are particularly dangerous in the months of January and February.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

The Late Arthur Verlander

i was very sad to hear of the passing of Arthur Verlander.  I understand he passed away yesterday after being admitted to hospital.  Our deepest sympathy goes to Judy and family.

Arthur has been a long respected member of Gosford Golf Club and one of our volunteer F-Troopers until his health prevented him from doing further work.
