Juniors Encourage Shield played at Toronto Golf Club

This is an update from Day 1 at the Encourage Shield played at Toronto Golf Club.

The gang looked fantastic in their new shirts and caps and were very proud to be representing the club.

The first match was a tough introduction to a pennants type format especially for some new golfers to handicap allowance let alone match play format. The first match was lost 6-0 to Shelly Beach, but the gang held their heads high with some fantastic golf and sportsmanship shown in defeat.

In the second match against Newcastle they were inspired by the name of the event, carding in a 3 all draw with Newcastle. A fantastic score given it was their second game as a team in the pressure cauldron. Wins came from Jemison Fitzgerald, Flynn Cho and Linkin Pappalardo.

My thanks to Keiran Moran for the above photos and report.

Our juniors are going great guns now and it is fantastic to see some of the players reaching this standard in such a short time.  All Credit to Keiran Moran and Jason Millers for the time and effort they put in to encourage our juniors.

The base is locked in place and is level - now for the rest.

Peter and I were presented with this fabulous wooden bowl to celebrate
his nine years service on the Board.  The bowl was hand made by
Rob Benson and was made out of a silky Oak from the 1st Fairway.
That was a lovely gesture and much appreciated.

Thank you Rob Benson & the F-Troopers.

Once again we have had another rain free week which is causing some distress to the gardens not to mention the course.

We had 14 volunteers today which was great because the wind has been bringing down more loose timber that we would like.

On hand were Duncan Dyer, Trevor Harrison, Kevin O'Brien, Terry Coyle, Rob Benson, Steve Hogg, John Hollebon, Garry Trigg, Don Nicholls, Andy Henebury, Geoff Bridge, Peter Martin, Di Beechey, Jan Martin.

The course was busy with a Charity day but we still managed to get projects done.  Those projects worked on were Loose Timber and Rubbish pick up, cleaning out the gutter of the creek that runs from the side of the 6th right through to the creek, cleaned up around the 1st and 10th tees and clubhouse, tree maintenance, watering as many gardens as we could get hoses to including watering the avenue of tibouchinas on the 2nd fairway and the hedge on the 4th tee, hedges at the 14th and 15th; tidied up the Ladies 3rd tee, cleaned the bush toilets, watered the gardens in the green space,
tidied up the 6th tranquility garden and watered the pots there, watered the bike garden, the Ladies 9th tee garden, the potted mandevilla at the 9th green,  concreted in a base for the bird bath, glued in the birdbath supports, part tidied up the garden between the 1st and 10th tees, moved in another Xanadu plant from the 14th to the Xanadu Garden and watered all the plants there including the red hedge on the 10th.

Hopefully we have got enough water to the main gardens to save them.

Our morning tea was very welcome today - Thank you Barto!

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Golf - Monday 25th September 2017 - Kidney Foundation Day

We had some very energetic volunteer workers for the Kidney Foundation Golf Day.  The weather was great and the course is playing well.

There were a lot of smiling faces out there so obviously everybody had had a wonderful day.

This is a great cause to support and congratulations to all those who have done it!

Post Team Series 3 Dinner - Sunday 24th September 2017

There seems to be a bit of confusion among the members regarding the after golf dinner arrangements for this Sunday following the final Round of the Team Series.

Because it is a special day the Club Bistro will be open with the normal menu being available.

You may book a table with the office for this event if you have a set amount of people you wish to have with you for dinner.

There was no dinner fee charged with the Team Series entry fee so it is a matter of ordering what you would like from the club menu and paying for it on the night.

If you have any other enquiries - contact the office.
