F-Troop - Monday 1st August 2011

Our F-Troopers were worth their weight in gold today achieving the daunting task of removing the out-of-control climber at the Men's 10th tee and removing what seemed acres of fireweed from around the course as well as general pick up duties.

We had Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Fred Middleton, Bruce White, Des Wilson, Zorro (Mark) Sorridimi, Noel Fenning, Peter Martin, Georgina Lamb, Anne Burgess, Yvonne Wilson & Jan Martin.

The tree troopers today were Duncan, Geoff, Fred, Noel, Bruce and Des.

Peter & Zorro  were on pick up duty.

Collectively then all the men took on the removal of the climber & garden at the Men's 10th tee.  This climber will be replaced with something more controllable that does not have thorns. Duncan also took his chain saw to the large shrubs in the bubbler garden that were blocking the Pro Shop staff's view of the 1st and 10th tees.

I started on the new hedge plants and the new 1st tee garden giving them a dose of Seasol & cleaned up around the front steps.  Georgina Lamb watered the gardens at the 1st tee & the helped me to remove fireweed that is raging through the rough & around the dam areas.

Anne Burgess gave her camellia garden at the 18th some TLC and then joined Georgina & I removing fireweed which we did up until morning tea time - clearing the dam area at the 2nd, the dam area at the 6th, the dam area at the 13th & all areas in between as we came across the weed.

Morning tea was more than welcome by our hard workers who had worked non stop from 7.30am.  We enjoyed mini muffins fresh from the oven - Thanks John!

Today was the last F-Troop morning for Geoff Bridge until he recovers from knee surgery.   We gave Geoff a Best Wishes card from all of the F-Troopers as Geoff's staunch support of F-Troop is much appreciated.

After morning tea Duncan, Fred, Noel, Peter, Zorro & myself cleaned up the last of the garden at the 10th and the bubbler garden.  Anne Burgess tidied up around the Magnolia trees in the front street garden.  Des & Yvonne Wilson worked on their garden at the 14th & the gardenia garden at the putting green.

YES!  WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

We had a great day for golf today for our most popular Mixed Team Series - blue skies and sunshine and in fact it got quite hot out on the course at mid-day.   The course had dried out dramatically from last Thursday but still is heavy in places where we have low lying water.  Carts were allowed today and there was preferred lies throughout the green.

Our Team Members were Mark Stimpson, Michelle McGrath, Peter & Jan Martin and we did not have a bad score thanks to the efforts of Mark, Peter & Michelle and we are only 6 points behind the leaders so watch out for us in the second series when I have found my purple patch which I hope arrives before the Ladies Championship starts on the 9th August.  Our playing partners today were Col & Kay Adams & we had a lovely day on the village green.  This event is very popular with our Members and well supported.

The Golf Event of the day was the 27TH ANNUAL MIXED TEAM SERIES - Round 1 which was proudly SPONSORED BY SCHWEPPES.

We had 111 starters including 29 players in the daily event.

Golf - Friday 29th July 2011

Another day of very welcome sunshine for our golfers today.  The course is still very wet underfoot & we need some strong wind and warm days to get it back to good condition.  No carts were allowed & preferred Lies through the green were the rules of the day.

We have another outbreak of fireweed (yellow flowered plants - photo attached).  The fireweed does indeed spread like wildfire so we need to control it by removing it where ever possible and disposing of the plants.  If you walk across any during your golf game then just pull them out by the roots and dispose of it in the garbage tins so that the seeds cannot spread. They remove very easily in the wet ground so the more out now the better.

The Golf Event of the day was a Single Stableford for Men and Ladies.

We had 79 starters with 8 visitors from Kurri, Moss Vale, Muirfield, Oberon, The Springs, Trundle & Wyong.
