Golf - Tuesday 19th July 2011- Grandma and Great Grandma's Trophy Day

We had a sunny day for golf this morning but a big chill factor on the wind that kept the temperature right down.  We were lucky to get our golf in when we did as the skies are darkening this afternoon for more bad weather - just as the course is trying to dry out.

My playing partners today were Mary Ellis and Christine Drakeford.  They were great company and kept my spirits up when things went bad.  We had some good highlights throughout the day with Mary playing a good back 9, I played my only plus hole on the 17th, Christine did some great long putts during the match and we all hit good approach shots over the bunker & onto the green at the 18th.

The Golf Event of the day was a Single Par and Grandma's Trophy Day and including Great Grandma's Trophy.

We had 64 starters with visitor Susan Balderstone from Royal Sydney.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me:  I was not in early enough to go right around the tables for highlights before presentation but we did have some good scores in so there were some out there I am sure - one of which was Fran James scoring a birdie gobbler at  the 5th & our major highlight in our group was all three of us chipping up over the bunker to the 18th green to save a square.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:  Bert & Annie Brink welcomed their first Great Grandchild "Noah" born on the 14th July 2011 - 8lb 7 oz  (photo attached).  Congratulations Bert & Annie!
Cheryl Davidson is the proud grandmother of grandson "Liam Avery" Winterton born 23rd June 2011 weighing in at 7lb 15 oz.  Congratulations Cheryl!

One low light to report because I am "not happy Jan" - there are two missing orchid plants on the 18th garden which is such a shame because they grow beautifully there and we have several out in flower for every one's enjoyment right now.  We had some good feedback on the new garden at the 1st tee which is good to know. Thank you to all the Members who supported F-Troop's firewood sales as the profits from this venture paid for all the plants, new soil and mulch in this garden.
