F-Troop - Monday 18th July 2011

F-Troopers today put in a solid morning of work tree trimming and planting out new gardens just to name a few tasks.

We had twelve F-Troopers who volunteered their time today which was a great roll up considering how the weather has been this week.

We had Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Warren Gray, Noel Fenning, Des Wilson, Fred Middleton, Peter Martin, Richard Casey, Mark Sorridimi (zorro), Di Beechey, Anne Burgess and Jan Martin.

Duncan, Geoff, Fred, Noel & Des took charge of the tree trimming along the 9th & back of the 11th and that area looks much tidier.

Peter, Richard, Mark, Warren, Di, Anne & myself worked at the 1st tee among other things.  We had 75 hedge plants to plant, one Austenville Tibouchina and 4 tibouchina jazzies.  The garden was planted out in precision order with new soil added to the garden to give the plants a kick along & then leaf mulched to protect the garden.  We still have another Tibouchina Jazzi and a water feature to add and perhaps some ground covers.

Mark & Di also installed a hose bracket at the 1st tee for our garden hose and after morning tea they removed an old hedge from the front step garden preparing the garden for a new hedge.   Early this morning Di had been the first to arrive and had the back car park & BBQ area cleaned up before we arrived.

We welcome back Zorro to F-Troop and he was a great help to us today providing some good manual labour digging out tree roots, moving dirt & planting out.  Thanks Mark! Your help was appreciated.

Over the next 10 weeks or so we are going to be short staffed with our volunteers as we have two gone to employment, three away on extended holidays and one on six weeks sick leave.  We would appreciate some help from our members even if it is only for a few hours here and there as spring time is approaching and there is a lot to be done.

Anne Burgess did some work on Camellia Way planting out three new camellias & providing protective fencing from the rabbits that cause grief to our gardens there.  Anne also planted some new flowers at the bubbler garden & trimmed some shrubs at the 1st.

Morning tea was huge muffins which were beautiful but a challenge to eat because of their giant proportions.  Thanks Chef John!  I think we earned our morning tea today.

Peter & Richard collected a trailer load of leaf mulch after morning tea to finish off the new garden while I planted out some Iris plants at the 2nd tee donated by Margaret Pratt and some Bromeliads & Agapanthus plants at the Ladies 2nd tee donated by Lyn Wilson & her kind neighbour.

After that we raked up at the 7th tee so that area was looking very tidy after all the good work that the greens staff did at the drains and pathway.  That tee looks much better now & hopefully the new drainage will help next downpour that we have.

We achieved a lot of good work today towards the beautification of the course.

YES!  WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
