Golf - Tuesday 23rd February 2010

The temperature was much better for golf today with a nice breeze to help out. My playing partners were Wendy Stapleton & Glennis English & we had a fun day with mixed fortunes.
After three days of golf in a row for many of us (in very hot weather) it was a little testing and we were all happy to be back in the airconditioned comfort of the 19th hole after we had scrambled through the 18 holes.
The Event of the day was a Ladies Single Stableford and we had 66 players with visitors from Terrigal.
RESULTS:
DIVISION 1 - 0 TO 20
WINNER: Jan Fitzgerald - 38 points
RUNNER UP: Debra Wright - 37 points
DIVISION 2 - 21 TO 30:
WINNER: Dianne Beechey - 36 points on a countback
RUNNER UP: Dawn Tromp - 36 points
3RD: Elizabeth McNamara - 35 points on a countback
DIVISION 3 - 31 TO 45:
WINNER: Katherine Smith - 36 points

14TH HOLE:

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: Barbara Stratford had a birdie on the 14th and won the nearest the pin of the 8th with a nice par; Jan Walker had 4/4 on the 4th and 4/3 on the 15th; Helen Potter had a birdie on the 13th; Linda Rogers had 4/4 on the 9th; Robyn Johnston had a gobbler on the 17th for a par; Helen Stuart had a gobbler on the 4th; Elizabeth McNamara had 35 points & had some exceptional putts; Jan Fitzgerald had 22 points on the back 9 & scored a nice 37 points; Doreen Vines had a gobbler on the 17th; Kay Frewin had 2 gobblers; Rhonda Robertson parred all of the 3 pars and had 7 pars all up; Noma Cubis achieved a nice (above 30 points) 32 points; Anne Forrester had a birdie at the 16th; Susan Bourne had 3/4 at the 12th; my highlight was a 4/4 at the 17th.
It was reported to me that Alice Collett hit her drive at the 18th to in front of the left hand tree near the drain. After several air swings Alice hit the ball into the tree & it rebounded back towards her. Alice then had another air swing, then eventually connected with the ball placing it over near the dam edge. Her playing partners kindly assured her that there were no trees over there!!!!!!!!!. Alice then proceeded to shank her next shot left into the trees on the other side.
Never mind Alice! We have one warm comforting thought - There is always next week...........!
