Nelson Bay Report

Nelson Bay Golf Trip

Again, this year 28 supremely fit, athletes travelled to Nelson Bay for a week of golf
.
Monday, Day one, Newcastle Golf Club. Winner Warren Guest with a magnificent 38 points, second rookie Steve (Manfred) Mann 34 points and in a close third Fast Eddie Rogers.

Tuesday, Day two. The day started on a sad note as one of our players had to withdraw from the competition

Last night in a totally unprovoked and cowedly attack by Port Stephens Council pavement one of us found himself in hospital with a dislocated shoulder. Not even our resident physician was able to put Humpty Dunky together again.

Golf was played with the remaining 27 at Horizons Golf Resort under sunny skies. Winner was Ross (Mr Radio) Bryant with 44 points. Tony Wood in second with 42 and Gary (John West) Sammons with 36 on a count back.

Wednesday was the traditional lay day. Punters club stayed in Nelson Bay and 12 left for Hawks Nest Golf Club to try their luck in a 4 person Ambrose.

Thursday, back to Horizons for another attempt to master this long course. The tees where back and the wind howling straight at us. Winner another rookie Ian (Snake) Rutherford with 38 points, Greg (Bluey) Thompson in second with 37 and John Golby third with 34

Friday, Championship day, at Pacific Dunes. We started with overcast drizzly skies but as soon as the first group hit off the weather improved. Winner on the day was Paul (The Ayatollah) Scholberg with 38, John Golby 36 C/B in second and Fast Eddie Rogers in third 36 C/B.

The overall winner of the John Bullivant Trophy was Greg (Bluey) Thompson 133, second Paul Scholberg 131 and third Tony Wood 129. The Bradman Award went to Tony Ahearn.

A massive thanks from all the participants goes to Garry Buggy and Ross Bryant for organising this great week.
