F-Troop Monday 28th September 2009

When we arrived for F-Troop duty early this morning the troopers were already hard at work sharpening the chain saws for a busy day cleaning up fallen branches and trees. We had two ute's and a tractor & tray in full use for four hours picking up loose timber & fallen trees. The troopers worked hard all morning. We could not get around the whole course but the volume we did pick up was awesome.
We had 11 troopers on duty today and those that I saw were Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Martin Gallagher, Des Wilson, Spencer Walklate, Garry Trigg, Peter Martin, Warren Gray, George Foster & Julie Hazzard.
Duncan Dyer, Spencer Walklate, Martin Gallagher & Geoff Bridge took care of the tree lopping & some pick up while Des Wilson, Peter Martin, Warren Gray, George Foster & Garry Trigg did the loose timber pick up. Julie Hazzard repotted some of the indoor plants.
I managed to sort out some of the watering systems & got the gardens at the 12th, 13th & 17th well watered with the big hoses connected to the ringmain.
Martin Gallagher identified some of the nuisance camphour Laurel trees & tree stumps that should be removed in the future.
Peter Martin completed the water system set up at the 18th tee garden so that we can now use the system to both run a hose to the bouganvillias & camelias & to the garden sprayer system for Bev Way's garden. Anne Burgess and Judy Hughes will be happy that they can now run a hose to their shrubs which previously they have had to water by bucket. That will give their gardens some chance of survival this summer.
Members would have noticed the damage done to the new garden at the Ladies 3rd tee by the resident cockatoos. It looks like we will need to get hold of some bird netting to protect this garden until it matures. The wild winds also brought down the big tree fern at the back of the Men's 10th tee and we lost a tree in the garden at the back of the 6th tee. It has been a rather damaging week all around for our grounds.
The Presentation for the Garden Competition will be held this Thursday Evening so it will be nice if we get a mention.
YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
