Gosford connections

Look who Cruz and Riley were hanging out with at the recent NSW Academy Games held at the Pacific Dunes Golf Resort.

Yes – it’s Gosford’s very own “Richie Gallichan” down for the weekend from Coffs Harbour. Richie has been based at Bonville Golf Resort for the past 3 years after moving on from Long Reef and 4 years as a Touring Professional.  Richie has settled in as the Head PGA Teaching Professional for the resort and volunteers his time as the Academy Coach for the North Coast Golfing Academy Juniors.

Cruz and Riley who were representing the Central Coast Academy of Sport for the weekend have seen all the photos of Richie back at Gosford Golf Club in his blue state representative jacket and were excited to meet the Gosford junior and state great. The Gosford connection of Richie, Laurie, Cruz, Jason and Riley were happy to pose together for a photo to share back home. Whilst Laurie reminisced when he played A Grade Pennants with Richie back in the day.

The Gosford connection continued throughout the day at Pacific Dunes with the Robertsons, Ballies, Bates and Binns arriving on Saturday for lunch and a course inspection ahead of their mixed week of golf.

To go with his 8 course records still out there, Richie was rewarded across the weekend with his North Coast team taking out 1st Place and his star 16 year old student Harvey Remfrey taking out the singles. But, both Riley and Cruz can hold their heads up high with Riley

scoring a tournament best 7 over scratch in 4th position and Cruz playing to his handicap in the nett division for a very testing resort course. Day Two saw the boys continue their form early in the heavy rain at Newcastle Golf Club, but play was suspended after 12 holes and a couple of attempts to brush the water off the 2nd green. Yes, that’s Richie and Jason in the rain moving the water around to help get play back under way. They cleared the water from the green with everyone laughing at them, then 30 minutes later the heavens opened up again to wash out play.
