Golf - Sunday 24th February 2013

The weather forecast was pretty much what I said it would be - no golfers got wet today!

Well, what can I say about Gosford Golf Club - playable after inches and inches of rain and high winds estimated to be 100klms overnight and we are still intact with the fairways good enough for a 40 points winners score!

How Good is that!

The Bunkers were of course out of play as we would expect and the rough was "rough" as we would expect but overall we had the RSL Social Club that had 17 starters and our daily competition that also had 17 starters so we did have the eternal optimists that were able to participate in their beloved golf and not only that, had scores of 40 points and 39 points that I know of to prove the point that Gosford is now to be considered and all weather course.

There has been a lot of fallen timber over this weekend which will be a problem for F-Troop tomorrow.
We have large branches down on the course that are visable from Racecourse Road so we can expect others down throughout the course.  Some "Extra" helpers tomorrow would be great as there is a lot of timber to be moved.  It would be fantastic to see some new faces at F-Troop for a few hours tomorrow - starting at 7.00 am at the Greenkeepers shed.

We also lost our "leaning pine" that has been threatening to fall over the wedding garden for a number of years.  I was looking at a disaster when I first heard that the tree had finally come down because we have a number of vulnerable items at the wedding garden including the garden lights, the statues, the seats, the bird bath, the pots in the wedding garden.  Amazingly the tree fell on the direct line that I would have picked to cause the least amount of damage to the area.  That will be a job in itself to be removed!

All that we will be likely to lose is one of the comquat trees, some gardenias and maybe some of the succulents which is a very small price to pay.  Happy Days! Sooner or later that tree had to some down.

The Golf Event of the day was a Single Stableford for Men and Ladies due to the insufficient starters.

We had 17 starters.
