F-Troop - Monday 18th February 2013

We had a great working day for F-Troop today - not a drop of rain in sight.

We had twelve volunteers and three running special projects and one ongoing project to do so we did well to achieve a good amount of work.

Our volunteers this morning were Trevor Harrison, Duncan Dyer, Martin Gallagher, Don Nicholls, Clyde Cruickshanks, Peter Martin, Warren Gray, Garry Trigg, Geoff Bridge,  Di Beechey, Anne Burgess and Jan Martin.

The major project of the day was the removal of the tree stumps around the course. Members should have appreciated the removal of the stumps on the fairways which makes for a visually better course and less hazards should you be unfortunate enough to be out in the rough. Duncan Dyer, Martin Gallagher, Geoff Bridge and Garry Trigg were on duty.  Duncan & Garry also trimmed the tree at the 6th that was encroaching on the fairway and removed the lower branches that interfered with the carts.  Geoff moved five trailer loads of mulch out to the 6th and the 15th gardens.

Trevor Harrison & Don Nicholls worked on creating garden edges for the new garden at the cart sheds.
This was a job well done from old timber that we had stored at the F-Troop shed. Peter & I topped up the garden bed with good soil and planted in some hedging plants "Yesterday, today and tomorrow" which are the same plants that flower at the 6th native garden.  These plants were grown and donated by Bert Jordon.  Thanks Bert!   This garden was created at zero cost to the club.

Warren Gray and Clyde Cruickshanks took care of our on going project of rubbish pickup around the course.   We had a comment from a player last week who noticed the difference in the course that he had not played for a few years and mentioned the fact that there was a lot less loose timber lying around the course.  So the good work is noticed - thanks Warren & Clyde!

Another of our major projects is the mulching of the gardens.  We have been donated a mountain of mulch for zero cost to the club and we need to move it out onto the gardens as quickly as possible.  Today we had Peter Martin, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess and myself working on this project at the 6th garden.  All was going well and we had completed the back garden, the tranquility garden and part of the large garden when we were attacked by some wasps that we had disturbed in one of the grevilleas. Duncan Dyer removed the offending branch that contained the wasp nest and hopefully next week we can continue and finish off the whole area at the 6th tee.  If anyone feels as if they could contribute a few hours on a Monday mornings and are willing to assist us in moving the mulch onto the gardens you would be welcomed as we have a huge amount of mulch to move.

Di Beechey & Anne Burgess continued their good work cleaning up around the clubhouse, BBQ garden and today we tidied up the garden at the 2nd green.  Anne spent some time here during the week cleaning up at the car park and BBQ area and fortunately cleaned the BBQ which was used today by the Avoca Beach Surf Life Saving Club for their Charity Day which was a shotgun start this morning.

Morning tea was very welcome with chef John supplying us with Giant Muffins - Thanks Chef John!

Good weather on Monday morning is always a bonus for us so hopefully that continues and we can keep moving on with our projects.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
