Golf - Thursday 2nd October 2008

Today was a hot & sunny day which must have put off some our players as we only had 24 starters which is a poor field when the course is playing so well. The scores today are an indication of how well the course is playing and I wish I could have been part of it.
I did not get any photos of our winners as it was all over by the time I arrived at the club.
The event of the day was a single stableford.
RESULTS:
DIVISION 1:
WINNER: Rosie Judd - 44 points
RUNNER UP: Judy Verlander - 42 points
3RD: Val Scott - 41 points
Balls went to Fay Bailey and Lyn Cruickshanks (39 points on a countback).
NEAREST THE PINS: 14th hole: Faye Levenspiel; 14th hole: Val Scott
CCR: 73 (36 points)
Yesterday I was accompanied on a tour of the course by Martin Gallagher & Jacob from the Narara Valley Nursery. Jakob is giving us some horticultural advice on the plants & trees suitable for our course and was good enough to give a few hours of his time & some invaluable advice.
(photo attached of Martin & Jakob dicussing the merits of some of trees on the course)
Attached is a photo of Alvin Kan presenting Gus MacDonald with his Monthly Medal trophy recently.
Attached is a photo of more of our unsung heroes - and that is the volunteers who go out and mark the GUR areas on the course. Today I spotted Col Matterson & Mark Stimpson donating their time for our benefit.
The top photo was taken from the club balcony late this afternoon. The course looked fantastic & there were some social players out there enjoying a late afternoon game. Our spot on the balcony was not hard to take either.
