Golf - Tuesday 8th December 2009

The Event of the day was a Ladies Single Stableford - Over the Field - Summer Competition and we had 39 starters with two visitors - Judy Eaton and Michelle Collyer from Terrigal.
It was predicted to be extremely hot weather but turned out to be not too bad with a bit of breeze to ease it down a bit. My playing partners were Anne Burke and Silvia Lee and we had a good day on the village green.
The course is in great condition, especially the greens which does not explain why we had so much trouble getting in our single putts.
Somebody who did not have any trouble at all was Lesley Gregory - our star for today, who had 45 points to blow the rest of us out of the water. Well played Lesley and "welcome to A Grade"
RESULTS:
SINGLE STABLEFORD - OVER THE FIELD:
WINNER: Lesley Gregory - 45 points
RUNNER UP: Judy Ruitenberg - 38 points on a countback
3RD: Susan Bourne - 38 points
4TH: Alison Guthrie - 37 points
BALL COMPETITION:

BALLS WENT TO: 35 points

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: Anne Burke had a great chip to the 18th green to score a 3 pointer; Silvia Lee had a fantastic drive on the 13th to easily reach the dogleg corner; Lesley Gregory had a stunning game scoring 4 pointers and/or birdies at the 9th/10th/11th/17th and 18th; Annette Dunk had a birdie at the 12th and three par holes; Norma Cubis had a gobbler; my highlight was my chip to the 18th green with my dreaded sand wedge and landing it close to the hole.
Julie Hazzard replaced some of the plants on the front balcony of the clubhouse today - Thanks Julie!
Julie looks after all our indoor plants and does a fantastic job. We do have a request to our Members.:
PLEASE DO NOT WATER ANY OF THE INDOOR PLANTS OR THE PLANTS ON THE OUTSIDE BALCONY.
Julie has a watering programme in place which is upset if the plants are overwatered which has been happening over the last few months. We do thank you for your concern and they may look like they need water - but Julie has it all under control - so please just appreciate the plants without touching them even if they appear to be dry.
F-TROOPERS were out in force again today to complete the Stump Removal Project. I spoke with the Project Manager Martin Gallagher and he told me that the majority of the problem stumps have been removed and the F-Troop has filled and repaired all the damage to the ground caused by the stump removal.
This has been one of our largest projects undertaken and has been considered one of the most successful.
Well done F-Troopers & many thanks to all of our Members who have contributed time and effort over the last two days doing the hard yards to beautify our course.
I have attached a photo of the Native Plants appreciation gift that was presented to me on Sunday night by the Board and Members of the club for my work in the gardens. I was quite stunned by the presentation and was humbled by the unexpected flowers. I must stress to all and sundry that it is not my efforts alone that have made so many improvements to the course gardens. I have a whole team of people who I mention regularly on my F-Troop reports who donate heaps of time out in the garden and grounds either on Monday F-Troop Day or in their own time and they are people who I recognise as being the backbone of any Maintenance or Adopt-A-Garden Scheme. Without this contribution and co-operation I would have no hope of managing the gardens and that includes the very generous Members who donate either plants or money towards the cost of the gardens even if they cannot contribute any time. To see this course starting to blossom and bloom is a reward in itself and I hope that we can continue our programme with everyones support, in whatever way they can, to make this the best course on the Central Coast and one that we can be very proud of.
