Golf - Saturday 31st July 2010

With even more rain overnight & early this morning the course remained open & playable which is such a bonus given the club's past history with long standing wet weather causing course closure for up to a week or more. The morning players were understandably put off with the continuing showers however by mid morning the blue skies had burst out & gave us a lovely warm sunny day which enabled the afternoon players a chance to get in a dry 18 holes even if a little wet underfoot.

The Event of the day was a Men's Single Stableford + 2 Ball Team.

We had 97 starters with 2 visitors from PGA and The Vines.

Golf - Friday 30th July 2010

At last, some blue sky and sunshine at least for most of the day. It clouded over this afternoon but we were spared from further rain. I was told that the course was very wet underfoot however the daily event was held, preferred lies throughout the green, but no buggies. As you can tell by the scores today some people were not at all worried about the conditions.
I have taken some photos of our lovely magnolias just coming into flowering season. Our white magnolia on the front street is always the first to bloom. This year we have white, pale pink, dark pink & lemon magnolias to flower so I am looking forward to that display.
The Pro Shop renovations are proceeding well at the expense of our Pro Shop staff discomfort & hopefully not too much inconvenience to Members. The end result should justify the means.
LADIES should check out the Pro Shop stock as some of the new clothing is starting to arrive. I snuffled up one of the new aqua blue shirts today - lovely!
The golf Event of the day was a Single Stableford for Men and Ladies.
We had 61 starters with 8 visitors from Everglades, PGA, Terrigal, Tuggerah Lakes & Wyong.
RESULTS:
MEN'S SINGLES RESULTS:
WINNER: Gus MacDonald - 40 points
RUNNER UP: Steven Adlard (Terrigal) - 39 points

Golf - Thursday 29th July 2010

As previously announced the Ladies Singles Knockout was postponed from today until next Thursday 5th August 2010.

The Ladies Daily Event was cancelled through lack of numbers. We had roughly an inch of rain yesterday which has made it very wet underfoot with further showers continuing this afternoon.

GOLF - FRIDAY 30th JULY 2010 - At this moment the course is open but no carts will be allowed.

Please check with the Pro Shop for current conditions in the morning prior to play.

Golf - Wednesday 28th July 2010 - RESULTS

The results have now come to hand & we did have 29 brave starters with one visitor from Terrigal.

The Event of the day was altered to a Single Stableford for Men due to bad weather and lack of numbers. The weather got increasingly worse as the day moved on & we had only 5 starters in the PM.

RESULTS:

MEN'S SINGLES RESULTS:

WINNER: Kevin Tweedie - 38 points

RUNNER UP: Laurie Steen - 37 points

Golf - Wednesday 28th July 2010

The weather has played havoc with the golf event of the day. The forecast of increasing showers was spot on as it has not stopped all day.

I understand that we had about 29 starters who braved the course at some stage today. I am not sure if an official competition was held however if any results come to hand I will publish them as soon as possible. The course looked very waterlogged late this afternoon and there was no result sheet available.

LADIES GOLF - THURSDAY 29TH JULY 2010 (Tomorrow):

The Ladies Match Committee has made a decision to postpone the Singles Knockout due to be played tomorrow 29th July 2010 until Thursday 5th August 2010.

The Ladies daily Event will be subject to course conditions tomorrow. Please telephone the Pro Shop on 4337 3333 after 7.00 am.

Golf - Tuesday 27th July 2010

We were blessed with the weather again today with the rain holding off and even giving us some blue skies and sunshine which was very welcome after overnight rain. The course was wet underfoot but not too bad. As you can see by some of our good scores that came in today the damp course did not worry some of us.
My playing partners today were Rosalie Dyer and Yvonne Wilson & we had a lovely day of mixed fortunes. Rosalie was our star player getting some nice putts in & we all had some good highlights along the way.

Some other highlights today we had a visit from a couple of our previous lady golfers.
It was good to see Sandra Coyle call in for a chat - Sandra is currently 'resting' from golf.
Another visitor that was wonderful to see at the club was Val Pucher. Photo attached of Val taken today with Rosalie Dyer & Rosemary Cohen. Val is 94 & continued to play golf into her early 90's and she has been an inspiration to all of our lady players over the years.

F- Troop Monday 26th July 2010

We had another big day at F-Troop today and it was definitely a case of more hands make lighter work. Our major project of the day was to re-arrange all the lockers in the Men's locker Room which was quite a huge task. F-Troop would like to acknowledge the assistance from Steven Binns, John Homer, Chris Bundy and Tony Starbuck, our young members who volunteered to assist with this project today and their help was invaluable. Thanks Steven, John, Chris & Tony !
Another acknowledgement today to Richard Casey who is one of our "Adopt-a-Garden" F-Troopers who also volunteered to help with the "Locker Move". Thanks Richard! Your help was much appreciated.
We had 10 of our regular F-Troopers on hand which made the tasks a lot easier - Martin Gallagher, Geoff Bridge, Bruce White, George Foster, Des Wilson, Warren Gray, Peter Martin, Yvonne Wilson, Georgina Lamb.
The boys all focused on the "Locker Move" which was done with great planning and precision. I saw the finished result and give credit for a job well done as it would not have been an easy task.
Martin, Geoff & Warren also did some rubbish pick up around the course and Martin & Geoff managed to find some time for some work with the firewood.
Georgina & I focused on the gardens. Georgina planted some new plants at the Ladies 2nd tee garden & then helped me with planting some new begonias & a tidy up at the Ladies 3rd Tee garden; planted some new succulents & a tidy up at the 5th tee; trimmed the olive trees at the 15th; weeded, raked and tidied at the Ladies Garden at the 13th tee; watered in the new plants at the 2nd tee; watered & cleaned the potted plants under the clubhouse; swept & vacuumed the walkway; washed down the table & chairs & seating outside the clubhouse; weeded, raked & tidied the Wedding Garden & around the putting green; cleaned the front steps & around the club entrance.
Yvonne trimmed & tidied the "Bird of Paradise" garden at the 15th; planted some new plants & cleaned up at the "Bush Toilet" garden at the 14th; trimmed & poisoned weeds at the "Oleander" garden at the 5th Men's tee.
This morning's morning tea was some yummy croissants with Jam & fresh cream - Thanks Chef John! We made short work of them.
In all a great effort by everyone.
YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Golf - Sunday 25th July 2010- Week 1 Mixed Team Series

Today was week 1 of our very popular Mixed Team Series Event which is sponsored by "SCHWEPPES" and is keenly contested by our Members. The course is in fantastic condition & the weather held fast for us with sunshine & blue skies up to the very late afternoon when our late starters were caught with a few light showers.
Our playing partners for the series are Mark & Anne Stimpson & we wore distinctive bright red team shirts to put off our opposition.
We had a fabulous day playing with our opposition Clyde & Lyn Cruickshanks who are always good company. The Op Shop Ball - Saturday 24th July 2010

You could say that we all had a ball at the OP SHOP BALL. It was a great night that everyone enjoyed. The food was good, the music was good, the company was good, the dancing was good so anyone who could not make it did miss out on a treat. Sheena organised a wonderful setting in the Magnolia room complete with flowers and candles on the tables and everyone supported the night with some fantastic Op Shop outfits.
We had some good leaders on the dance floor and managed to wine, dine and dance the evening away.
I hope to have some more photos coming from other cameras.
