F-Troop - Monday 25th June 2012

It was very chilly at 7.00am this morning however our F-Troopers were ready for duty regardless.

Today we had twelve workers on hand including two new members.  We had Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Martin Gallagher, Richard Casey, Trevor Harrison, Peter Martin, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess, Georgina Lamb, Jan Martin, Ken Donald & Shirley Donald.

Ken & Shirley Donald are new members having their first day with us today. Ken has just joined Gosford Golf Club and is a keen new player working on gaining his handicap so he can really appreciate the golf course.  Meanwhile Ken and his wife Shirley (who is not a golfer) have volunteered to be part of our F-Troop work which is much appreciated.

The tree gang of Duncan Dyer, Martin Gallagher & Geoff Bridge took care of a dangerous tree that needed to come down at the 16th.  That was a big job made a bit harder as we were short of helpers.

Di Beechey & Anne Burgess worked at the car park & BBQ area early in the morning.  Anne then went on to work on her gardens at the 10th & 18th, weeding, trimming and fertilizing.

Di & I worked on setting up a new feature garden at the 4th tee using donated pots and plants.  Georgina Lamb, Peter Martin, Richard Casey & Trevor Harrison were on hand to help the job get completed. Di and Anne worked on the garden at the back of the 10th tee and area around.

Peter, Trevor & Richard roped off an area at the cart shed preparing for excavation later in the week. After helping us at the 4th tee Trevor & Richard did the rounds of the course picking up loose timber and rubbish.

Ken & Shirley worked on cleaning up the 1st & 10th tee areas of leaves and sticks.

The wild winds of Friday made quite a mess around the place so there was quite a bit of picking up to do.

Morning tea of gigantic muffins were appreciated by the troopers.  Thanks Chef John!

After morning tea Peter & I collected more advanced Agavi plants that were donated by Brian & Rhonda Chapman. This generous donation has been put to good use screening off Racecourse Rd at the Wedding Garden area and providing security at the fence line.  Thanks Brian & Rhonda!

We also received a donation of Bromiliads from Enone Sammons which we will put to good use in the shade gardens.  Thank you Enone!

We have had a donations of garden edge boards donated for our use from a Member who I will acknowledge when I have more information.  These boards will be very useful for our projects.

I have noticed that the low-life have been back at the garden at the 18th and removed all the orchid spikes that were in flower.  At least they left the plants there this time!!!!!

The timber orders have been coming in which is good to see.  All monies will be put towards the beautification of the course.  We are in the process of refreshing the white gravel in the wedding garden area which will be paid for from the proceeds of firewood sales.

YES!  WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

Geoff & Helen Darkes have been granted a permanent residence visa.  Congratulations and welcome Geoff & Helen!

Michael & Pauline Norman wish to thank everyone for their support and good wishes following the tragic house fire they suffered recently where they lost just about everything that they owned.  Their home was destroyed by fire in five minutes which left them very little time to save anything. Fortunately they were uninjured.

A warning from Michael  & Pauline to anyone who leave their golf buggy batteries plugged into power at home (or anywhere for that matter).  Michael & Pauline's battery had been fully charged and left on the power.  The battery had somehow been tipped over so that the wires tangled and triggered the fire that destroyed their home in a matter of minutes. PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS DANGER!

The Master Pennants match between Gosford & Everglades was played today at Gosford.

Golf - Thursday 21st June 2012

Today was the first round of the Ladies 4BBB Knockout but unfortunately I do not have any results to publish at this stage.

We received a very generous donation of 15 advanced Agavi plants from Brian Chapman which was very much appreciated.  These plants have been placed along Racecourse Rd fence line to add security and privacy to the course.  There will be more plants coming shortly so we will be able to complete that section of fence line which will make that area much more attractive and secure.

Golf - Tuesday 19th June 2012

Some people found it tough out on the course today but it was much improved from Sunday conditions and the course is drying up at a rapid rate.  We had some good scores in today which proves that it could not have been too bad.

My playing partners were Lynn Puiatti and Anne Forrester and they were great company and carried me home for a good win today.  We did have some good highlights including a new way to "save a  putt" which resulted in some good one putts.  I have never won the putting competition before in all the years that I have been playing golf so that says something for the system.

The Golf Event of the day was a Ladies Single Stroke - Club & 4th WGNSW Medal.
