We have all seen the movie "Forrest Gump" - life is like a box of chocolates - you do not know what you are going to get! Golf was like that at Gosford today on the village green. The weather could have been anything and ended up with blue skies and sunshine all the way.
Our playing partners today were Col & Lauren Matterson who were delightful company & we had some fun in more ways than one. My highlight of the day was going to be my first ride in the new golf cart, complete with ball & club washer, sand buckets, esky, GPS System & portable radio. Instead that all faded into insignificance after Peter fell into the dam on the 15th after hitting a perfect shot, putting distance from the pin after the ball was balanced on a few dandelion leaves preventing it from entering the water. Peter was in the dam with just his hat floating on top and was extracted from the dam by Col Matterson. I was too slow getting the camera to capture the balanced ball or the moment of the fall but I was laughing so much I wiped the 15th hole through lack of concentration. Peter scored a 5/2 on the hole which we all thought was brilliant under the circumstances. Both Col & Peter had birdies at the 4th but that faded into insignificance also.
Because the weather has been so intensively bad the last few days all the bunkers were out of play & preferred lies throughout the green were the local rules of the day. There was to be no handicapping due to the bunkers being out of play so some good scoring happened because the fairways & greens were still in good condition in spite of all the rain & the casual water was not too much of a problem with the preferred lies being applicable.
