Golf - Sunday 2nd May 2010

We had a wonderful day for golf today - blue sky and sunshine with the course & greens showing great promise after their recent maintenance programme.
Our golf partners today were Wally & Rhonda Robertson and we had a great day full of highlights - not the least of which was Peter not managing to get his drive onto one fairway until the 18th where he placed his drive in the long grass at the dip & yet still managed to get in excess of 40 points with the help of his friends ( 25 points at the halfway).
The Event of the day was a Texas Individual Stableford which was introduced to the club by Dick & Joyce Bosley and proved to be a very popular choice with our golfers. The rules are that each player is to place a drive, choose the best drive, from that point everybody plays their own ball as a stableford event - 3 scores to count in a team event only.
We had 100 starters with 7 visitors from Kempsey, Teven, Tuggerah Lakes and Everglades.
We had some crazy scores with some individual scores coming in at 50 points due to the advantage of using the best drive. There was no handicapping today so it was essentially a fun day.

TEAM RESULTS:
WINNERS: Frank Smith, Kurt Burrell, Chris Hatfield & Craig Ward - 152 points

NO HANDICAPPING TODAY.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: Rhonda Robertson had a great drive on the 12th; Wally Robertson had a great 5 iron to the 4th. & fabulous drives on the 2nd and the 13th; Peter Martin had 25 points on the front 9 not using any of his drives; Spencer Walklate put his shot into the garbage tin at the 17th which fortunately was not one of the required drives; Ray Stapleton did not get any kisses today for any birdies or good shots; Irene Hyland from Everglades had 50 points; Annie Brink had 50 points; Anne Stimpson had 49 points including two 5 pointers; Steven Cross objected to the ladies executive choice of Annette's drive on the 2nd until he scored a birdie - when all was forgiven; my highlight was scoring a birdie off of Rhonda's great drive on the 12th.
