Another day of water damaged course which caused the cancellation of today's competition.
We did not have any more rain this morning so social play was allowed after 12.00 pm and there were some players willing to take advantage of the break in the weather including Doug & Robin Incoll who played with us for 16 holes which was very enjoyable.
The course was wet underfoot but not impossible to play (Peter Martin scored 41 points just to prove a point). The bunkers were water damaged so we took a drop from them if we were unfortunate enough to be in them, some parts of the course were still wet in patches but other parts had recovered well.
Our best highlights today were approach shots to the 10th green from Doug Incoll & myself from in front of the left hand bunker. We both hit the identical shot, slamming into the top edge of the bunker & bouncing neatly out to within putting distance of the pin. My highlight was that I was closer to the hole than Doug. Peter played consistently good golf with some great putting on very slow greens.
We noticed that the flagstick & metal pin casing on the 7th was missing & replaced with a stick on the 7th green. More vandalism I suspect. We also noticed that there were a lot of divots left unfilled on the course and went through many buckets of sand filling the gaps. It was more noticeable on the 11th fairway where there were groups of 4/5/6 divots in one place multiplied every 10 foot or so down the fairway. Could someone be practicing multiple chips shots to the green and then not bothering to fill their divots?
We did get a small amount of rain on the 2nd, but then the weather fined up to a hot day so it was well worth the effort to get out there.
After golf we had a few drinks at the 19th hole & noticed that apart from all the wedding guests there were only two or three other golfers in the clubhouse besides us and at 6 o'clock there was we, us and co.
After two days of no competition golf & little support from members in the clubhouse - where would we be without functions? To quote Doug Incoll " I have never seen anything so bare since my honeymoon"
I have attached some photos for those of you who may be following the "lovelife" of our Bower Bird in my garden at home. He is back busily building his new lovenest so I will keep you updated on his success rate.
