Golf - Tuesday 17th August 2010 - 3rd Round of the Ladies Championships

We had a wonderful day for golf today with the wild winds of the last few days drying the course out really well. It was the 3rd Round of the Ladies 2010 Championship and also the Stroke Monthly Medal. We had plenty of sunshine and at last some run on the course.

My playing partners today were Julie Hazzard & Lesley Gregory & we had a good time on the village green. I was lucky enough to get two "get out of jail" cards on the first hole when my drive hit a tree on the left hand side & bounced back onto the fairway. My second shot went severely to the right heading straight into the trees at a gallop, hit a stick on the ground & bounced backwards onto the fairway, 3rd shot to the edge of the green where I putted three foot past the hole & then sank the putt for 5. At that point I thought that I had used up all my luck so I had to knuckle down for the rest of the round.

The event of the day was the 3rd Round of the Ladies Championships - Daily Single Stroke & Medal Round.

We had 67 starters.

WINNER: Margaret Nichols - 74 nett

RUNNER UP: Elizabeth MacNamara - 75 nett on a countback

3RD: Judy Hughes - 75 nett on a countback

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY s reported to me: Michelle McGrath had two birdies; Margaret Davidson had a birdie gobbler of the 8th; Judy Hughes & Margaret Pratt had improved golf; Kathy Small had her best round so far in the Championships; Christine Drakeford improved on her previous scores; Norma Cubis had a par on the 5th & won nearest the pin on the 8th; Margaret Nichols had a par on the 15th; Wendy Stapleton had a birdie gobbler on the 18th and improved by one stroke; Silvia Lee Chipped in on the 8th & Georgina Lamb chipped in on the 9th; Lorraine Linnert is still waiting for her chip in; Judy Ruitenberg birdied the 15th; Linda Rogers had pars on the 1st and 2nd; Lyn Douglas & Lyn Bates highlights were watching Michelle McGrath play; Debbie Grinham had a birdie gobbler at the 8th; Fay Bailey, Robyn Johnston & Debbie Grinham all had a 9 on the 11th; Sharon Anderson had a birdie on the 15th; Bev Adams had a gobbler at the 6th; Leonie Casey had birdies at the 5th & the 15th (30 foot putt) & parred the 11th; Annie Brink had improved play; I parred the 15th & had a gobbler on the 8th.

Yvonne Cumming had her sandwich stolen out of her hand by a rogue bird today.
