Golf - Sunday 19th July 2009

It was a magic Day for golf today - not too hot - not too cold - just as the Captain ordered!
The course is gradually drying out from the recent heavy downfalls. All going well we should see a big improvement if there is no further heavy rainfall.
Our playing partners today were Mark & Anne Stimpson - always great company & we had a good day out on the village green. The boys played well with Mark scoring two birdies through the day. Peter scored well in the first nine with Mark doing his bit in the 2nd nine to trouce us for the keno ticket.
The event of the day was a 2 Ball Team + Single Stableford mixed Men and Ladies.
We had 100 starters with 3 visitors from Duntry League and Toukley.

Anne Stimpson had a four pointer on the 8th; Peter Davidson had 39 points which included 3 one pointers, 2 wipes and 3 birdies; Robbie Brann had birdies on the 14th and 15th ( welcome back Rob); and Robin Brann had no wipes ( Welcome back Robin ); Michael Fell chipped in on the 6th for a par; Paul Brown had a birdie on the first hole; Kerry Cubis had a birdie on the 18th; Norma Cubis had a nice par on the 15th; Gary Sammons had birdies on the 10th and the 12th; Ronnie Puiatti had a birdie on the 11th (Lynn Puiatti had to renew her lipgloss after the men's team had got three birdies in a row); Nigel & Sheena Asken and Lyn & Mark Douglas all got 4 pointer birdies each through their match - on the 3rd hole Mark hit a 175 metre third shot into the hole to score his birdie; Arthur Collien scored 37 points - getting 23 points on the first nine and a birdie on the 11th; Pam Witt had a birdie on the 8th; Jim Forrester got a birdie on the 16th; Elizabeth McNamara had three 3 pointers; Tania Burt hit a shot over the water at the 13th - the ball crossed the water, crossed the bridge on the left and finished up in the water on the other side; Rhonda Robertson had 2/4 on the 5th; Wal Robertson had 3/4 on the 3rd; Ray Stapleton played two great nines to score his 41 points; Ray Presdee did not have to pay Peter Martin his $1 as he equalled the score; Garry Wilkinson had 3 pars in a row and had seven 3 pointers; my only highlight was parring the 15th.
It was good to see the school farm had their Lama stock back in the paddock after all the drama of losing the old stock to our poisonous oleander trees (since removed and replaced with harmless tibouchina trees - well away from the fence line). Their only danger now is flying, out of control, golf balls. (photos attached)
Another noticible thing was the birdlife - mainly ducks, geese and water hens that frequent our course are blatently demanding food from passing by golfers - obviously getting accustomed to handouts each day. That is fine in a minority situation - however 100 golfers plus social players x 1 piece of unhealthy food multiplies into a deadly concoction for birdlife on a daily basis. If you feel compelled to feed the ducks etc them please make sure you bring something that is within their dietry requirements. Too much bread and meat pies does not qualify. We want to keep our birdlife healthy, happy and well fed with the right food.
TEAM SERIES
Next Sunday is the first of the Team Series events being held over the next three months.
There are still positions left for a male and a female team member if anyone is looking for a spot. Please contact our Club Captain - Mark Stimpson if you would like to participate in a team.
