F- Troop - Monday 13th December 2010

Another hot day which makes us glad that we start so early to beat the heat. We had 14 volunteers which was a great roll up being so close to Christmas.
I saw Geoff Bridge, Duncan Dyer, Fred Middleton, Warren Gray, John Coddington, Peter Martin, Sam Knox, Des Wilson, Mark Stimpson, Di Beechey, Georgina Lamb, Yvonne Wilson and Anne Burgess. We achieved some good work regardless of the heat.
The "Tree gang" Duncan, Geoff, Fred & Des continued to work their way down the 1st fairway tidying up all the low hanging branches which interfere with the rough cutter (not to mention the golfers). Duncan also removed a dangerous branch at the 1st tee.
Di started a 6.00am & cleaned up the car park area, the BBQ area & the walkway to the Pro shop.
Warren did a long shift on the rough cutter.
Peter & John were on rubbish pickup & did a great job clearing up all the fallen bark from the trees around the course (it is bark falling time now & it certainly makes a mess. )
Mark did some carpentry work at the clubhouse.
Sam did another long shift with his wood cutting machine preparing more timber for next winter's firewood sales.
Yvonne watered all the gardens at the front of the club including the wedding garden & gave some TLC to some of the plants there. After morning tea Yvonne & Des created a new feature garden at the 14th with two of the cycad plams that were donated to us by Wendy Stapleton. The two black pots in the feature garden were donated by Bruce Binns.
Anne tidied up her gardens & chipped & weeded around the bouganvilleas & Camelias at the back of the 10th green & then helped Di Beechey tidy up the pathway to the Pro Shop.
Georgina worked on the gardens at the 6th tee that had become overtaken with weeds.
I chipped & weeded around the Limelights at the 7th fairway & worked with Georgina at the 6th Native Garden weeding & trimming the shrubs. Later worked on placing the old wedding garden pot using a plant that was donated to us by Evelyn Dixon some time ago. I ran out of time to finish the project so it is "work in progress" at this time.
At 6 o'clock this evening F-Troopers Di Beechey, Georgina Lamb, Mark Stimpson, myself & Col Matterson spent some time spraying the 10th fairway for rogue grasses. These nuisance grasses are taking over the fairways so we are attempting to make some inroads into controlling the pests with volunteer help from the Members. The 10th hole was our first attempt which seems to be having some effect from our efforts last Monday. To be really effective we need more volunteers to come forward so that we can get a better coverage across the fairways. We intend to do sessions at 6.00pm in the evening when the course is least in use. Please contact Mark Stimpson or myself if you feel that you could contribute an hour or so to this good cause. The more helpers the quicker the job is done.
Morning tea was most welcome today as we were hot & thirsty by mid morning. Chef John supplied us with fruit pastries fresh from his oven to accompany our tea and coffee. Thanks John! We certainly appreciated it.
It was a good day's work by all & the course is looking really lovely leading up to Christmas.
YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
